#3544 deleted every frontend/src/lib/api-samples/ingest-*.json sample, so tests/docs/test_ingest_samples_validate.py failed on main (repo root security/RLS/isolation suite).

The samples are not restored. The test now:

  • asserts no ingest-*.json sample file is shipped
  • checks the ingest-samples.ts skeleton keeps {{EVENT_TIMESTAMP}} / {{EVENT_DATE}} placeholders and its receiving KDE names match REQUIRED_KDES_BY_CTE
  • keeps the required-kdes.json vs backend diff
  • checks the replay window (91 days back rejected, 25 hours ahead 422, 23 hours ahead accepted) and the HMAC signature check with events built at runtime from the backend required KDE table

Local: tests/docs 10 passed; frontend docs-contract.test.tsx 36 passed.

Note

Low Risk
Test-only changes to documentation contract validation; no production ingest or API behavior is modified.

Overview
Updates ingest docs contract tests after #3544 removed all frontend/src/lib/api-samples/ingest-*.json payloads, which had been breaking CI because the suite still expected those files.

The suite now asserts no ingest-*.json files are shipped, validates ingest-samples.ts (INGEST_BODY_SKELETON placeholders and receiving KDE field names vs IngestEvent / REQUIRED_KDES_BY_CTE), and still diffs required-kdes.json against the backend. Timestamp-window and HMAC-SHA256 behavior is exercised using runtime-built receiving events from the backend KDE table instead of rendered JSON samples.

Removed coverage tied to the old files (multi-sample parametrization, walkthrough lot-chain, per-sample missing-KDE cases, quickstart-only receiving check). HMAC tests use a per-run secrets.token_hex(32) key via _signed_body() instead of a fixed test secret.

Walkthrough

The tests now validate a TypeScript ingest skeleton and runtime-generated receiving payloads instead of stored JSON samples. They check skeleton fields against the backend’s required KDEs, timestamp limits, and HMAC signatures over the exact request body. Signature tests verify that a modified body or a missing signature returns HTTP 401.

REVIEW: FAIL muse 545572e

Good: no ingest sample is restored, and the test asserts none ships. The skeleton check enforces the {{EVENT_TIMESTAMP}}/{{EVENT_DATE}} placeholders, rejects fixed dates and compares the KDE names to the backend's required table. The replay window is tested at -91d, +25h and +23h. HMAC is checked against the exact body bytes, and the test fails on an extra byte or a missing signature. The runtime events are opaque per-run tokens (TEST-, location-), not realistic records, so they're acceptable as data-free.

Blocking (one line): test_ingest_samples_validate.py:90 hardcodes _TEST_SIGNING_SECRET as a string literal. That's a made-up key, which the real-data rule removes, and a literal secret is what detect-secrets flags. Generate it per run instead, e.g. secrets.token_hex(32). I'll pass on that delta.

Check field placement and required top-level fields in the skeleton test.

_skeleton_keys flattens nested keys, so these assertions do not check where each field sits in the skeleton:

  • A receiving KDE placed at the event's top level still counts as a documented KDE, so the equality on line 123 passes. IngestEvent reads KDEs from kdes, so a top-level KDE does not populate it.
  • A skeleton without cte_type passes line 124. cte_type is a required IngestEvent field, and _UNIVERSAL_FIELDS does not include it.

Check the KDEs inside kdes, and check the required top-level fields separately:

Restore the missing required-KDE negative test.

The retained test validates only a complete payload. It stays green if _validate_event_kdes stops rejecting an absent nested receiving KDE. Restore coverage for each nested required KDE.

REVIEW: PASS muse 6766731

The delta since my FAIL at 545572e is one file. The hardcoded _TEST_SIGNING_SECRET literal and its pragma are gone, and the key is now secrets.token_hex(32), generated per run. Nothing else changed. My earlier review of the rest still holds.
