Storage identity and vectors agent/pagebroker/testdata/storage-contract/identity.json, agent/pagebroker/testdata/storage-contract/identity.json.license, api/storage/identity_test.go |
Adds eight PageBroker storage identity vectors, license metadata, and a test that keeps the PageBroker and API vector files identical. |
Rollout controls and content binding charts/snapshot/values.yaml, charts/snapshot/templates/configmap.yaml, charts/snapshot/templates/daemonset.yaml, charts/snapshot/templates/operator-deployment.yaml, charts/snapshot/tests/*.yaml, operator/cmd/manager/main.go, operator/cmd/manager/storage_config.go, operator/cmd/manager/storage_config_test.go, operator/internal/controller/podsnapshot_reconciler.go, operator/internal/controller/podsnapshot_reconciler_test.go, charts/snapshot/README.md, docs/operations/storage.md |
Adds disabled-by-default artifact-addressing and new-content binding settings. Helm rejects binding without artifact addressing. The manager validates the store configuration, and the reconciler assigns Spec.Storage only when binding is enabled. Documentation describes staged activation and publication descriptors. |
Restore transaction cleanup
| Layer / File(s) | Summary |
|---|---|
Restore transaction cleanup agent/internal/executor/restore.go, agent/internal/executor/restore_test.go |
Keeps failed staging unmounts tracked for deferred retry and skips Commit and Abort. After a successful unmount, Commit proceeds; a Commit failure triggers Abort and remains a cleanup error. Tests cover both paths and verify operation ordering. |

On an existing installation, enabling both switches in one upgrade can create bound content before older agents are replaced. Use the documented staged rollout or enforce the dependency before merging. The values-table and bucket-validation concerns also remain open.

Full details: Breaking Api Changes
-
Explanation
No breaking API change is introduced. The authoritative PR diff changes only
api/storage/identity_test.gounderapi/**; it does not add, remove, rename, or retag exported fields. ThePodSnapshotSpecandPodSnapshotContentSpecimmutability markers are unchanged. The previously reportedConfig.S3and S3 fields are absent from both the PR base and head, so that prior failure does not apply. Prior failure refuted: The base and head both define onlyConfig.PVCin api/storage/config.go; no s3.go exists. The PR's only api/** change is a test, and no API field or immutability marker changes.
Full details: Rbac Least Privilege
-
Explanation
No wildcard RBAC grant was introduced. The changed reconciler retains explicit kubebuilder verbs and resources, and the PR changes no RBAC manifest. Repository Helm RBAC rules also use explicit verbs and resources; no wildcard pattern exists.

Implements artifact-addressed checkpoint, restore and metadata retrieval in broker.cpp, replacing the INVALID_REQUEST throws with real dispatch over the existing artifacts/<contentUID>/containers/<name>/ layout — not a new on-disk scheme, so #474's maintenance and legacy restore are unchanged. PVCArtifactStore publishes a checkpoint atomically (copy into a partial path, then the same partial/previous/published rename dance the legacy PosixCopyEngine already uses, since staging on tmpfs and the PVC are different filesystems and cannot be renamed across) and writes a publication.json evidence sidecar recording the store ID, artifact handle and deterministic commitID next to manifest.yaml. Restore and GetArtifactMetadata resolve and verify that evidence, mapping failures to STORE_MISMATCH, ARTIFACT_NOT_FOUND, ARTIFACT_CORRUPT and UNSUPPORTED_ARTIFACT rather than collapsing them into STORAGE_ERROR. identity.cpp computes StoreID/CommitID with a self-contained SHA-256, matching api/storage/identity.go's length-prefixed preimage encoding field for field; identity_test.cpp checks it against the same vectors the Go side uses (api/storage/testdata/identity.json). main.cpp parses the sidecar's existing --storage-config argument (added by #492) and resolves the configured store at startup; storage_config.cpp is a parser for exactly that fixed YAML shape, not a general YAML dependency added for four string fields. The operator now sets spec.storage.storeID on every PodSnapshotContent it creates, from the store identity it already reads out of storage.yaml, so the artifact-addressed path added in the previous PR is reached at runtime. The chart starts the PageBroker sidecar with the same storage.yaml so the broker can refuse targets and descriptors from another store. A bound capture whose Commit reply or Ready write was lost is recovered by asking PageBroker for the deterministic publication (artifacts/<contentUID>/containers/<name>) through GetArtifactMetadata, never by reading the PVC from the agent; the capture source recorded on Ready comes from that manifest. Legacy content keeps the filesystem check. The agent's checkpoint PVC mount is kept: pageBroker.restoreMode=direct bind-mounts the PVC path from the agent for legacy content. The PageBroker C++ that serves these requests ships separately on the transfer-engine chain; until it lands, bound requests fail in the broker with INVALID_REQUEST and nothing is published. Signed-off-by: Oleg Kushniriov <okushniriov@nvidia.com>
A failed unmount can mean staging is still in use by something else, so forcing a Commit or an Abort right after is unsafe. Per SNEP-237, skip both and leave the transaction for PageBroker to reclaim on expiry instead. Signed-off-by: Oleg Kushniriov <okushniriov@nvidia.com>

…age source feat/pvc-checkpoint's identity.go no longer derives a commit ID or commit vectors (SNEP-237: the publication has one fixed path per content and container, so a retried Commit needs no derived identity to replay against). That change updated api/storage/testdata/identity.json but never reached this copy, which the C++ PageBroker build reads separately since its build context is agent/pagebroker alone. No C++ source reads commitID or canonicalHex; only this file carried them. Copy api/storage/testdata/identity.json over this file so TestPageBrokerVectorCopyMatches holds again. Signed-off-by: Oleg Kushniriov <okushniriov@nvidia.com>
A bound checkpoint whose Commit fails is CheckpointFailed, the same as a legacy one. The agent no longer records a pending outcome or probes the store for a publication, so the operations guide must not describe it. Signed-off-by: Oleg Kushniriov <okushniriov@nvidia.com>
restore() popped the source mount from activeMounts whether or not its Unmount succeeded, so a failed unmount was never retried by the deferred cleanup and the bind mount leaked in the restored container until it exited on its own. Only drop the entry once it actually unmounts. Add tests for both branches CodeRabbit flagged: a failed unmount skips Commit/Abort and is retried by cleanup, and a Commit failure after a successful unmount still returns a *RestoreCleanupError. Also assert the full PageBroker daemon args list instead of two independent contains checks for --storage-config and its path, and correct the expiry-cleanup doc to say removal can be deferred rather than unconditional. What this PR does / why we need it
Makes the artifact-addressed path from #475 reachable at runtime.
Content binding. The operator sets
spec.storage.storeIDon every new PodSnapshotContent, using the store identity it already reads out ofstorage.yaml. The chart starts the PageBroker sidecar with the samestorage.yaml(--storage-config) so the broker can refuse targets and descriptors from another store.Rollout switches, temporary. Two Helm values,
pageBroker.artifactAddressingandoperator.bindNewContents, gate the two halves so this PR can merge ahead of the PageBroker backend without breakingmain. They are removed again by the lifecycle PR at the top of this stack, once the backend is below it; the end state has no switches, PageBroker always receives the store configuration and the operator always binds.Shared identity vectors. The C++ copy of the store-ID test vectors is synced with the
api/storagesource.Restore cleanup on a failed staging unmount. If unmounting PageBroker's restore staging fails,
Restoreno longer commits (or aborts) the transaction — it leaves it for PageBroker's own expiry to reclaim, since the staging may still be in use.Which issue(s) this PR addresses
Part of #237.
How was this tested?
api:go test ./...operator:go vet,go testforcmd, controller, maintenanceagent:GOOS=linux go vet, make linux-test(full suite in the golang container)helm unittest(62 cases),helm lintgolangci-lintv2.13.2 (pinned version, run from its container): 0 issues in all three modulespush-artifacts.yamldispatch and a PageBroker build that implements the PVC artifact backend.Special notes for your reviewer
Base is #475.
The PageBroker C++ that serves these requests is the next PR in this stack. Until it lands, a bound request fails in the broker with
INVALID_REQUESTand nothing is published, so merging this ahead of the broker is safe but inert. The agent's checkpoint PVC mount is kept. Removing it breaks
pageBroker.restoreMode: direct, which bind-mounts the PVC path from the agent for legacy content. Bound content never reads the PVC from the agent. While the switches exist the rollout is two steps: deploy
pageBroker.artifactAddressingfirst, confirm the broker build is compatible, then enableoperator.bindNewContents. The lifecycle PR removes both and documents the one remaining caveat instead: finish the agent DaemonSet rollout before starting captures on an upgraded installation. The companion e2e PR, which requires the store-bound publication on every capture, is kept separate so it can wait for the broker build.
Does this PR introduce an API change?
