Removes the backend demo data from services/ingestion/app/recall_report.py.

Removed: the hardcoded demo path a tenant with no data got (_query_scoring_data returned None or cte_count == 0):

  • six hardcoded demo dimensions with invented scores and findings ("4.2 hours", "2 of 5 team members", …);
  • the canned six-item demo action plan;
  • the fake "4.2 hours" response-time estimate;
  • the DEMO_DATA_DISCLAIMER use and the use_demo_mode branch.

Empty tenant now gets: dimensions: [], action_items: [], overall_score: 0, overall_grade: "N/A", overall_status: "no_data", an executive summary starting "No data yet", and "Not yet measured" for the response time. Real-mode scoring is unchanged. demo_mode and demo_disclaimer stay in the response model for API compatibility (the frontend recall-report page reads them; that page belongs to Kimi's #3471 follow-up, so it isn't touched here) and are always false/null.

Tests (services/ingestion/tests/test_recall_report_1342.py): the two demo-mode tests become one parametrized, data-free no-data test (uuid4 tenant). test_summary_and_citations_present uses real-mode scoring instead of the demo path.

Results: ruff check/format clean. pytest test_recall_report_1342.py test_reader_canonical_migration_2506.py test_disclaimers.py: 53 passed. pytest --collect-only services/ingestion/tests: 5805 collected. I ignored test_ingest_error_logging_2868.py, which fails collection on main for an unrelated reason and is fixed by #3528. Nothing runs against a database.

Not touched: #3524, #3525, #3471 follow-up files, .secrets.baseline.

VS Code Grok reviews; do not merge (merge freeze).

Note

Medium Risk
Changes recall report API semantics for empty tenants and DB outages (demo scores → empty report; silent failures → 503), which clients must handle correctly in a compliance-facing endpoint.

Overview
Removes fabricated demo recall readiness when a tenant has no traceability events or when scoring queries used to fail silently. Tenants with cte_count == 0 now get an empty, truthful payload (dimensions: [], overall_score: 0, overall_grade: "N/A", overall_status: "no_data", executive summary starting with “No data yet”) instead of six hardcoded dimensions, canned action items, and the fake “4.2 hours” response-time line.

Database failures are no longer treated as “no data.” _query_scoring_data stops swallowing errors into None; generate_report catches failures and returns 503 with a retry message. Only a successful query with zero CTEs yields no_data.

Scoring from real tenant data is unchanged. demo_mode / demo_disclaimer remain on the response for compatibility but are always false / null; DEMO_DATA_DISCLAIMER is dropped from this module. Tests are updated to lock empty-report shape, 503 on DB errors, and propagated exceptions from _query_scoring_data.

Reviewed by Cursor Bugbot for commit 1ec1ba1. Bugbot is set up for automated code reviews on this repo. Configure here.

A tenant with no traceability data used to get hardcoded demo dimensions,
a canned action plan and a fake 4.2-hour response estimate. It now gets
no dimensions, no action items, score 0 with grade N/A and status no_data,
and a 'No data yet' summary. demo_mode/demo_disclaimer stay in the model
for API compatibility but are always false/null. Tests are data-free.

Walkthrough

The scoring query returns tenant-scoped data and propagates database errors. The endpoint returns HTTP 503 when a scoring query fails. When the tenant has no CTE events, the report has empty dimensions and action items, a score of 0, grade "N/A", and status "no_data". Reports with dimensions derive action items from dimensions below 80. The response-time estimate is “Not yet measured.” The response sets demo_mode to False and demo_disclaimer to None. Tests cover these outcomes and reports with scoring data.

Priority: Normal

Estimated code review effort: 3 (Moderate) | ~20 minutes

Merge Risk: Low · up to f8d8d

The change is mergeable with a bounded test follow-up to guard against exposing database error text in future 503 responses.

Security architecture risk: Low · up to f8d8d

The change makes reports more honest without expanding access privileges or changing stored data. Tenant isolation remains in place. Remaining risk is primarily compatibility with clients that expect the previous empty-report or failure behavior.

Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The demonstrated impact is reporting behavior for authenticated tenants, not increased authority over other tenants or data stores. A shared database failure can make reports unavailable, but the change does not add writes or broaden database query scope.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — The caller-supplied route tenant identifier does not determine database access: the handler replaces it with ctx.tenant_id from require_tenant_context. That dependency retains API-key verification, and each scoring query binds the authenticated tenant identifier.
  • observed — Scoring-query failures produce a fixed public error message. The changed application log records the exception type rather than the exception text, avoiding direct disclosure of database-error details through these two outputs.

REVIEW: FAIL grok f48c6bc

C.Lee approved posting this review directly (Oct 23, 2026, 12:13 PM PT).

Review only: nothing merges during the merge freeze.

Good:

  • All recall_report demo data is gone: the six hardcoded dimensions, the canned action items, the "4.2 hours" estimate and the DEMO_DATA_DISCLAIMER import.
  • An empty tenant (cte_count == 0) gets overall_status: "no_data", overall_grade: "N/A", an executive_summary that starts with "No data yet.", empty dimensions and action_items, overall_score: 0 and demo_mode: False.

Blocking:

  1. Errors are swallowed and shown as an empty state. _query_scoring_data (services/ingestion/app/recall_report.py:114-116) catches RuntimeError, OSError, AttributeError, TypeError and ValueError, logs a warning and returns None. The endpoint then treats None as no data, so a broken database answers 200 with "No data yet". That's a silent fallback. A query failure should surface as a 5xx or an explicit error status, and only a real cte_count == 0 should produce no_data.
  2. The tests lock that in. TestGenerateReportNoData runs None and {"cte_count": 0} through the same no-data test. Split them: an error should not become no_data. The existing "SessionLocal raise → None" and "execute raise → None" tests need updating too.

Tests contain no invented company records: they use uuid4 tenants and monkeypatched scoring stubs.

CI at this SHA: Engine Review Pass, Frontend Unused File Guard and PR Gate: Workflow Contract fail. PR Blocker Checklist was cancelled. Most backend jobs were still pending when I checked.

REVIEW: PASS grok 7d17e97

Delta review since f48c6bc (my FAIL, review 5633302699).

Blocking issue resolved:

  • Database errors in recall_report now return 503 instead of falling back to a 200 with "No data yet".
  • Error and empty-state tests are now separate.
  • All 47 tests pass locally at this SHA.

Non-blocking nits:

  • tests/test_recall_report_1342.py lines 571-573 still have the comments "Would trigger demo" / "Force not-demo".
  • Rename test_recall_report_demo_defaults (line 180).
  • The except Exception in the endpoint is broad; consider narrowing it to database errors.

CI is not yet green at this SHA. Merge freeze is on, so this is not a merge approval.

Disclosure: review written by Grok (headless Grok Build) and posted with C.Lee's approval on Oct 23, 2026 ("Yes, post it").

Branch updated with main

Main was merged into claude/remove-recall-report-demo at the new head (29354a1c74fc4ab64344031e248ba2a1a86caeef).

Because merge commits created with GITHUB_TOKEN do not trigger workflows, a push to this branch or a manual CI re-run is needed for checks to run on it.

REVIEW: PASS kimi 1d54727

  • Removes the hardcoded demo dimensions, scores and canned action plan from recall_report.py. A tenant with no CTE events now gets overall 0, grade N/A, status no_data, an empty plan and an honest summary; demo_mode is always False (kept for API compatibility). Matches the real-data rule.
  • DB errors in _query_scoring_data now propagate and become a 503 instead of silently falling back to demo scores; only a real cte_count == 0 means no data. Error log records the exception type only, no values.
  • Tests updated in test_recall_report_1342.py; backend CI passes. Branch includes current main (658bc7f).
  • Failing checks are Engine Review Pass (needs this review) and visual-report (non-required).
  • Non-blocking nit: time_to_respond_estimate still contains an em dash ('Not yet measured — run a recall drill...'); consider a period or colon per the no-dashes copy rule.

REVIEW: PASS kimi 29354a1

Delta review from 1d54727: the single new commit (29354a1, 'chore(ci): retrigger checks') is empty and the tree matches 1d54727, so there's no code change. My earlier PASS on 1d54727 still stands, including the em dash nit. No new data, secrets or copy in the delta. CI is still running; Engine Review Pass and PR Blocker Checklist are failing at the moment.

REVIEW: PASS kimi f8d8d64

Delta check: this is a merge of main (3e76eda) into the branch, and its first parent is 29354a1. The PR's diff against its merge base has the same two files with byte-identical patches as at 29354a1 (services/ingestion/app/recall_report.py and services/ingestion/tests/test_recall_report_1342.py). Nothing main brought in touches either file, so no conflict resolution was needed. My earlier PASS still applies.

REVIEW: PASS gemini bde1e02

  • recall_report.py: hardcoded demo scenarios removed. cte_count==0 returns an honest empty report (score 0, grade N/A, status no_data, empty dimensions/action_items); DB errors now raise 503 instead of silently becoming no-data; demo_mode=False and demo_disclaimer=None kept for API compatibility.
  • Tests updated: empty report, 503 on query/SessionLocal failure, real-mode gap scoring with derived action items. Only error type is logged, no data leak.
  • Recall drill simulations, Load Sample Data, generateSampleCSV, /proof/recall-drill, sample_recall_drill.csv untouched (425 references at head, same as main).
  • Nit, non-blocking and pre-existing on main: time_to_respond_estimate string contains an em dash ('Not yet measured — run a recall drill') shown on the dashboard; worth a follow-up to drop it. Dashboard should render grade 'N/A' fine (string type).
  • CI: required gates still queued/pending at review time; tests not run locally (Mac load ~28).

* fix(copy): real-data follow-up to #3471 (v3) (#3544)

* fix(dashboard): drop fabricated demo data from recall report page

Remove the hardcoded demo investigation stats and affected-lot rows
(invented suppliers, lot codes, consumer counts). Demo mode now renders
the same No data yet empty state with a link to import records.

* feat(copy): label every EPCIS intake and export mention as (Preview)

EPCIS is preview on both paths, so feature-name mentions across app and
marketing copy now carry the (Preview) marker. The integrations eyebrow
now reads CSV upload, JSON events API, EPCIS (Preview). The FDA sortable
export stays unlabeled. Stored keys and option values are unchanged.

* fix(copy): keep typed EPCIS format value unlabeled in customer-readiness

The format field is a string union used for logic; the (Preview) marker
stays on the display name only.

* feat(pricing): show honest unavailable state when billing is unreachable

Drop the hardcoded tier prices and the silent fallback. Prices now come
only from the billing service; when it cannot be reached the page renders
a Pricing is temporarily unavailable state with signup and contact links
instead of invented figures. Hardcoded dollar amounts in the pricing copy
and metadata are removed as well. EPCIS 2.0 export carries the (Preview)
label; the FDA sortable export stays unlabeled.

* fix(app): remove sample and sandbox banners and the simulated ingest walkthrough

Dashboard shell and DemoBanner now say No data yet with a link to connect
real data on the Ingest page. The ingest page no longer fakes a job for
the first example URL; it submits for real. The Sample: Daily FDA package
archive entry is removed from the archive jobs list. Test assertions
updated for the EPCIS (Preview) status labels.

* fix(data-import): remove synthetic sample dataset simulation

Delete SAMPLE_EVENTS, the handleLoadSample flow with its state and types,
and the Load Sample Dataset / Run Simulation card. A regression test
asserts the control is not rendered. Real CSV upload and the API guide
are unchanged.

* test(copy): assert csv-sftp display text never renders SFTP

Display labels were already clean (CSV Import); this locks the invariant
for the csv-sftp registry entry name, customer copy, and the
csv_sftp_import delivery-mode label. Stored keys and ids are unchanged.

New receiving submissions name the location 'Receiving Dock, <supplier>'
instead of using a dash. No existing records are touched.

instead of using a dash. No existing records are touched.

* fix(inflow-lab): hide Inflow Lab links from dashboard, docs, ingest, integrations and product

* fix(tools): remove Inflow Lab simulator, walkthrough sample payloads and recall drill demo data

Drops tools/inflow-lab components, lib/api-samples ingest walkthrough JSON, synthetic tools/ask and tools/export copy, and invented proof/recall-drill numbers. Recall report shows the #3536 no_data empty state.

* fix(ci): Engine Review Pass picks up real PASS markers (#3577)

* fix(ci): Engine Review Pass reads issue comment markers and allows pi, deepseek, devops

Real PASS markers on #3553, #3547, #3530 and #3527 were ignored: pi was not an
allowed engine, issue comment markers were never read, and devops/ branches
failed as an invalid author engine. Also rerun on PR issue comments.

* fix(suppliers): lock agreed sending hours to tenant admins

Suppliers no longer set their own late CTE threshold. The write moves to
PUT /v1/supplier/admin/facilities/{facility_id}/agreed-sending-hours,
gated by the tenant Owner or Admin role check from tenant settings (#1386)
and scoped to facilities in the caller's tenant. The supplier dashboard
shows the agreed time read only.

* feat(suppliers): agreed sending hours per facility and live late CTE metric

* feat(epcis): record a receipt for every EPCIS document and live failure metric

* fix(copy): real-data follow-up to #3471 (v3) (#3544)

* fix(receiving): use a comma in generated Receiving Dock location names

New receiving submissions name the location 'Receiving Dock, <supplier>'
instead of using a dash. No existing records are touched.

* fix(inflow-lab): hide Inflow Lab links from dashboard, docs, ingest, integrations and product

REVIEW: PASS kimi 1ec1ba1

Delta since last review: two clean merges of main (no conflict resolutions) and 1ec1ba1, which reuses one sentinel per test and asserts it never appears in the 503 body for both the _query_scoring_data failure (RuntimeError/OSError/ValueError) and the SessionLocal failure. Test-only change that tightens the no-leak guarantee. CI Status Gate and Backend CI Status Gate pass. Vercel Preview Built fails only because Vercel's Ignored Build Step canceled the preview, not because of code. Engine Review Pass is waiting on this review.

REVIEW: PASS kimi 2bf6af9

  • 2bf6af9 is a merge of main (f1fea1e) into my previously passed head 1ec1ba1.
  • git range-diff: the 4 PR commits are identical; the PR's own diff vs merge-base (recall_report.py, test_recall_report_1342.py) is byte-identical to the one passed at 1ec1ba1.
  • git show --remerge-diff is empty: clean auto-merge, no manual conflict edits. Also merges cleanly with current main.
  • Tests not rerun locally (no ready env); relying on CI.
