This PR holds the review fixes that landed on grok/fsmaevent-tlc (a93dd12, 947bd93) after #3499 was merged unreviewed at 3:25 AM PT.

Changes (services/shared/schemas.py, tests/test_shared/test_fsmaevent_lot_level_tlc.py):

  • Accept GS1 Digital Links with a custom path stem before /01
  • Enforce the 20-char AI10 lot limit after percent-decoding
  • Reject unencoded reserved characters and malformed % escapes
  • ASCII [0-9] digits, \Z anchors, re.fullmatch

Tests are data-free/structural; this PR adds no invented identifiers (no GTIN or lot values). tests/test_shared: 116 passed locally.

Reviewer: Codex. MERGE FREEZE is on: do not merge.

Note

Medium Risk
Stricter TLC rules on the shared FSMAEvent contract can change which EDI/EPCIS payloads pass validation and may reject previously accepted malformed lots or Digital Links.

Overview
Hardens FSMAEvent.tlc validation for LGTIN URNs and GS1 Digital Links (follow-up to #3499), tightening how lot-level traceability codes are accepted before events hit Kafka/ingestion.

validate_tlc_format now uses re.fullmatch with \Z anchors and explicit [0-9] digit classes. Digital Link patterns allow an optional custom path stem between host and /01/…/10/…. Lot segments use carrier-specific raw character sets plus %HH escapes, with a new _decoded_ai10_lot_within_limit helper that enforces the 1–20 GS1 AI (10) character limit after percent-decoding and rejects malformed % sequences.

Tests in test_fsmaevent_lot_level_tlc.py expand data-free structural coverage (newlines, bare %, charset/anchor checks). .secrets.baseline only reflects line-number/timestamp churn from schemas.py.

Walkthrough

TLC validation now requires full-string matches for production TLCs, LGTIN URNs, and GS1 Digital Links. LGTIN and Digital Link lot values must use permitted raw characters or valid percent escapes. The validator decodes these values and checks that each contains 1–20 characters from the GS1 AI (82) character set. Digital Links can include custom path segments before /01. Tests cover the patterns, decoded-length boundaries, and rejected inputs.

Priority: Low

Estimated code review effort: 3 (Moderate) | ~20 minutes

Merge Risk: Moderate · up to bff8a

Invalid TLCs can pass validation, allowing non-conforming identifiers into downstream workflows. Resolve both validation gaps before merging.

Security architecture risk: Moderate · up to bff8a

The new custom-path matcher can repeatedly rescan a crafted TLC before rejecting it. Synchronous validation could therefore stall an ingestion worker. Tenant authentication limits access, but does not by itself isolate processing resources.

Retained concerns

  • Medium · security · inferred: The new Digital Link custom-stem search can cause quadratic backtracking on long malformed identifiers. Repeated valid-looking /01/.../10/... blocks followed by a forbidden trailing character force suffix rescans before rejection. With no shared TLC length ceiling and synchronous ingestion validation, a caller able to submit such identifiers could monopolize an ingestion worker and delay other traffic sharing it. Effective deployment-level containment has not been established.
Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The supported exposure is authenticated ingestion processing. A costly TLC match could delay requests sharing the affected worker, potentially across tenants where workers are shared. Whole-service impact, unauthenticated reachability and deployment-wide isolation were not established.

Security Findings and Attack Paths

  • inferred — A malformed URL containing many candidate identifier blocks and a final literal # cannot match. The new lazy stem can nevertheless advance to each candidate while the optional suffix repeatedly scans the remaining path. This creates quadratic matching work before the decoded-lot helper or normal rejection handling can run. The base pattern had no variable-position stem search. Exploit timing was not measured.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — The EPCIS single-event route obtains tenant context before invoking ingestion. The shared validator strengthens full-string, escape and decoded-character checks. These are access and data-integrity controls; the inspected route still performs the ingestion call synchronously, and the shared TLC field specifies only a minimum length.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed — Bound TLC length and custom-path complexity before matching, or parse path components deterministically so rejection requires linear work. Place the bound in the shared validation boundary so both ingestion adapters inherit it.

REVIEW: PASS
Fixes the #3499 connector threads. #3499 merged into main as c218f2f at 3:25 AM PT on Oct 23 (10:25Z), merged by PetrefiedThunder. If the freeze was on then, it merged during the freeze.

  • services/shared/schemas.py:333 allows zero or more custom path segments before /01, as _DL_CUSTOM_STEM. Segments can't contain '/', so the pattern can't backtrack badly.
  • schemas.py:337-345 matches lots as (raw char | %HH)+. The raw classes exclude '%' and the reserved characters, so a bare or malformed % fails to match. :348-363 checks well-formed escapes, applies the 1-20 limit to the decoded lot, and requires the decoded characters to be in the GS1 82-character set, so non-ASCII decodes are rejected.
  • schemas.py:319 and :335 use [0-9] instead of \d, and every pattern now ends in \Z and is checked with fullmatch (:428-433), so a trailing newline is rejected.
  • ReDoS: none of the alternations overlap. Pathological inputs of 20k characters (long stems, repeated '%4', a long lot) each finished in about 2 ms or less.
  • Tests are data-free: only shape assertions, blank or bare-prefix rejections, and opaque 'x' or '%41' repeats. test_fsmaevent_lot_level_tlc.py 31 passed, test_schemas.py 15 passed, run one at a time.

A TLC containing repeated /01/<14 digits>/10/x blocks followed by # causes quadratic regex backtracking, allowing a small malformed EPCIS identifier to block synchronous ingestion validation for seconds.

P2 Badge Reject non-pchar characters in custom stems

When an otherwise valid Digital Link has a custom stem such as /%ZZ, this expression accepts the malformed percent escape—and likewise characters such as [ or NUL—because it allows every non-separator rather than the stated URI pchar grammar. The match then reaches validate_tlc_format and marks a malformed URI as a valid FSMAEvent TLC, allowing invalid ingestion evidence to pass schema validation; define stem segments from URI-safe literals plus _PCT_ESCAPE instead.

Restore the production lot-length limit.

If a production TLC contains 14 digits followed by 21 lot characters, _TLC_PRODUCTION_RE accepts it. The prior shared pattern limited the lot to 20 characters, and GS1 defines AI (10) as 1–20 characters. Bound this suffix to 20 characters so an invalid TLC cannot pass into validated event evidence. Validate each Digital Link stem segment as URI syntax.

If a custom stem contains a malformed escape, such as /a%GG, _DL_CUSTOM_STEM accepts it before /01/. FSMAEvent.validate_tlc_format then accepts the malformed Digital Link when its lot is valid. GS1 defines stem segments using URI pchar, which permits only valid percent escapes. Restrict stem segments to that grammar while preserving the received TLC unchanged. (ref.gs1.org)

Test a trailing newline after a valid TLC.

Every value in _ALREADY_REJECTED fails before the newline is added. These cases therefore pass even if validation accepts a trailing newline after a valid TLC. Add a case based on an existing valid TLC fixture or schema example, then assert that appending "\n" makes validation fail.

Branch updated with main

Main was merged into grok/fsmaevent-tlc-followups at the new head (c57aa03986cf61790e0d1b6f78303de0f9b2a1d7).

Because merge commits created with GITHUB_TOKEN do not trigger workflows, a push to this branch or a manual CI re-run is needed for checks to run on it.

Add validator-level valid and boundary cases.

The bare malformed-prefix cases do reach FSMAEvent.validate_tlc_format, but they cover rejection only. The custom-stem test inspects regex text, and the decoded-length test calls _decoded_ai10_lot_within_limit directly. Add structurally complete validator cases for an accepted custom-stem Digital Link, an accepted 20-character decoded lot, and a rejected 21-character decoded lot.

REVIEW: PASS kimi c57aa03

  • c57aa03 is an empty commit on 8f785ad (git diff empty); reviewed 8f785ad.
  • schemas.py: \Z anchors close the trailing-newline gap of $; ASCII [0-9] instead of \d; AI(10) 1-20 length now checked after percent-decoding with strict %HH validation; raw reserved chars rejected per carrier; optional Digital Link path stem before /01. Correct and tighter.
  • Tests are data-free (no GTINs/lots/records). Real-data rule OK. In scope.

Delete SAMPLE_EVENTS, the handleLoadSample flow with its state and types,
and the Load Sample Dataset / Run Simulation card. A regression test
asserts the control is not rendered. Real CSV upload and the API guide
are unchanged.

* test(copy): assert csv-sftp display text never renders SFTP

Display labels were already clean (CSV Import); this locks the invariant
for the csv-sftp registry entry name, customer copy, and the
csv_sftp_import delivery-mode label. Stored keys and ids are unchanged.

* fix(receiving): use a comma in generated Receiving Dock location names

New receiving submissions name the location 'Receiving Dock, <supplier>'
instead of using a dash. No existing records are touched.

* fix(inflow-lab): hide Inflow Lab links from dashboard, docs, ingest, integrations and product

* fix(tools): remove Inflow Lab simulator, walkthrough sample payloads and recall drill demo data

Drops tools/inflow-lab components, lib/api-samples ingest walkthrough JSON, synthetic tools/ask and tools/export copy, and invented proof/recall-drill numbers. Recall report shows the #3536 no_data empty state.

* fix(app): remove sample and sandbox banners and the simulated ingest walkthrough

Dashboard shell and DemoBanner now say No data yet with a link to connect
real data on the Ingest page. The ingest page no longer fakes a job for
the first example URL; it submits for real. The Sample: Daily FDA package
archive entry is removed from the archive jobs list. Test assertions
updated for the EPCIS (Preview) status labels.

* fix(data-import): remove synthetic sample dataset simulation

* fix(ci): Engine Review Pass picks up real PASS markers (#3577)

* fix(ci): Engine Review Pass reads issue comment markers and allows pi, deepseek, devops

Real PASS markers on #3553, #3547, #3530 and #3527 were ignored: pi was not an
allowed engine, issue comment markers were never read, and devops/ branches
failed as an invalid author engine. Also rerun on PR issue comments.

* fix(suppliers): lock agreed sending hours to tenant admins

Suppliers no longer set their own late CTE threshold. The write moves to
PUT /v1/supplier/admin/facilities/{facility_id}/agreed-sending-hours,
gated by the tenant Owner or Admin role check from tenant settings (#1386)
and scoped to facilities in the caller's tenant. The supplier dashboard
shows the agreed time read only.

* feat(epcis): record a receipt for every EPCIS document and live failure metric

* fix(copy): real-data follow-up to #3471 (v3) (#3544)

* fix(dashboard): drop fabricated demo data from recall report page

Remove the hardcoded demo investigation stats and affected-lot rows
(invented suppliers, lot codes, consumer counts). Demo mode now renders
the same No data yet empty state with a link to import records.

* feat(copy): label every EPCIS intake and export mention as (Preview)

EPCIS is preview on both paths, so feature-name mentions across app and
marketing copy now carry the (Preview) marker. The integrations eyebrow
now reads CSV upload, JSON events API, EPCIS (Preview). The FDA sortable
export stays unlabeled. Stored keys and option values are unchanged.

* fix(copy): keep typed EPCIS format value unlabeled in customer-readiness

The format field is a string union used for logic; the (Preview) marker
stays on the display name only.

* feat(pricing): show honest unavailable state when billing is unreachable

Drop the hardcoded tier prices and the silent fallback. Prices now come
only from the billing service; when it cannot be reached the page renders
a Pricing is temporarily unavailable state with signup and contact links
instead of invented figures. Hardcoded dollar amounts in the pricing copy
and metadata are removed as well. EPCIS 2.0 export carries the (Preview)
label; the FDA sortable export stays unlabeled.

* fix(app): remove sample and sandbox banners and the simulated ingest walkthrough

Dashboard shell and DemoBanner now say No data yet with a link to connect
