Summary

Frontend-only follow-up for SEL-615 (and the frontend part of SEL-614).

When the primary GET for Settings company profile, Products, Audit Log, or Notification Preferences returns 404 or 403, the dashboard now shows a clear “not yet available in RegEngine Beta” state instead of “Couldn't load” / a blank Settings form. Real 5xx and network failures still use ErrorState with retry + support.

This does not enable production routers. router_policy.py, server/main.py, Railway, dashboard/compliance, and api-hooks.ts are untouched (router promotion remains with SEL-616 / Grok).

Changes

  • New helper: frontend/src/lib/dashboard-load-failure.ts (404/403 classifier; not in api-hooks.ts)
  • New UI: frontend/src/components/ui/beta-unavailable-state.tsx
  • Pages: Settings, Products, Audit Log, Notifications — attach HTTP status on throw; branch Beta vs ErrorState
  • Settings: stop swallowing !res.ok as null on company profile load; hide form / disable Save until profile loads successfully
  • Tests: frontend/src/__tests__/pages/sel615-beta-unavailable.test.tsx — 404, 403, 5xx, network for each page

Test plan

  • npx vitest run src/__tests__/pages/sel615-beta-unavailable.test.tsx src/__tests__/pages/dashboard-load-errors.test.tsx src/__tests__/components/error-state.test.tsx → 31 passed
  • npx tsc -p tsconfig.json --noEmit → passed
  • eslint on touched files → 0 errors

Closes SEL-615
Related: SEL-614 (frontend UX only; routers still disabled)

Note

Low Risk
Frontend-only UX and error branching on dashboard pages; no backend or auth changes.

Overview
When the primary load request for Settings (company profile), Products, Audit Log, or Notification preferences returns 403 or 404, those pages now show a dedicated “not yet available in RegEngine Beta” callout (BetaUnavailableState) instead of a generic load failure or an empty Settings form. 503 and network errors still use ErrorState with retry and support links.

Shared helpers in dashboard-load-failure.ts classify beta-unavailable statuses; fetches now throw apiError + withRequestId so status is available for branching. Settings no longer treats failed GETs as null—Save stays disabled and the profile form is hidden until a successful load or an explicit error state.

Adds page tests in sel615-beta-unavailable.test.tsx covering 403/404 vs server/network failures for all four routes. Minor Trust Center copy tweak for the Preview status label; copy-lint baseline entries were trimmed for removed/changed paths.

Walkthrough

The Audit Log, Notifications, Products, and Settings pages identify HTTP 403 and 404 errors as beta-unavailable and display a shared informational state. Other failures retain retryable error states. Settings also disables saving and hides the profile card until settings load successfully. Tests cover beta-unavailable responses, other failures, and retry behavior. The trust-page Preview wording and copy-lint baseline are also updated.

Explanation

The title names the fix (Beta-unavailable UI) and the four affected pages (Settings, Products, Audit Log, Notifications), matching the changeset. It uses a ticket prefix and is slightly long at 79 characters, but it clearly states the primary change.

Full details: Description check

Explanation

The description follows the template's main sections: Summary, Changes, and Test Plan. It explains the 404/403 Beta-unavailable behavior, the 5xx and network handling, the Settings save/form changes, and the scope limits. The Type of Change checkboxes are not marked, and the Checklist section and the Related Issues section are not filled in beyond a ticket reference. The test plan lists commands with results, but the template's checkbox categories are not ticked.

Explanation

Docstring coverage is 10.00% which is insufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff with cyclomatic complexity of at least 2. Documentation-only edits and deletions within surviving functions are included; unchanged diff context and fully deleted functions are excluded. Analyzed 10 functions across 8 files.

Resolution

Write docstrings for the functions missing them to satisfy the coverage threshold.

REVIEW: PASS hermes 07f593e

Scope

Frontend-only (7 files under frontend/). No router_policy.py, server/main.py, Railway, or other backend changes. Own-diff vs origin/main matches PR file list.

Checks

  • dashboard-load-failure.ts: maps only 404/403 via getErrorStatus. 5xx keep status → ErrorState. Network/Response.error() and timeouts/AbortError have no status → not masked. 401 (expired session) is not treated as beta.
  • 403 note (non-blocking): real RBAC/permission 403 would currently show the beta callout. With these routers unmounted in Beta the live miss is 404; fine for SEL-615. Prefer narrowing to 404 (or excluding isAuthError) before SEL-616 enables the routers so authz failures are not mislabeled.
  • beta-unavailable-state.tsx: "{feature} is not yet available in RegEngine Beta" + support link — no false availability claims.
  • Settings / Products / Audit Log / Notifications: all branch isBetaUnavailableError → BetaUnavailableState else ErrorState with retry. Settings stops swallowing !res.ok as null; Save disabled until profile loads / on error; form hidden.

Local

  • tsc -p tsconfig.json --noEmit → pass
  • eslint on touched files → 0 errors (2 pre-existing react-hooks/set-state-in-effect warnings on Settings, not introduced here)
  • vitest sel615-beta-unavailable + dashboard-load-errors + error-state → 31 passed

CI

Bugbot/Vercel green; Engine Review / Head SHA / Blocker still waiting on this comment. Prefer merge-main over rebase if needed.

Make the network fixture reject the fetch promise.

Response.error() is a resolved Response with ok === false. Each page therefore enters its !res.ok response-error branch instead of testing a rejected fetchWithCsrf promise. The existing dashboard-load-errors.test.tsx cases cover the same pages, but also use resolved Response.error(), so they do not cover this rejection path.

Reject a successful settings response without a usable profile.

If the GET returns null or omits profile, TanStack Query marks it successful. settingsLoaded then enables Save, while the hydration effect leaves the blank/default profile state unchanged. Save sends that state to the profile PUT.

Validate the response before returning it:

Suggested fix
-            return res.json();
+            const data = await res.json() as SettingsResponse | null;
+            if (!data?.profile) {

REVIEW: PASS hermes b012f09

Delta re-review of Claude's copy-gate tip only (head unchanged). Tip patch is byte-identical to #3740's copy tip.

  • trust/page.tsx: Preview detail is not GA → has not reached general release.
  • scripts/copy-lint/baseline.json: same --update-baseline refresh; only trust live-claim reduction vs tip-parent scan; other deletions clear stale allowlist rows already gone on the tree (no new suppressions of live claims).
  • Tip touches only those two files.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Exclude authorization 403 responses from isBetaUnavailableStatus.

The dashboard load pages preserve upstream statuses. A documented permission or tenant denial returns 403, but this classifier sends every 403 to BetaUnavailableState, which has no retry action. The UI therefore presents an authorization failure as feature unavailability.

Use the unavailable 404 response only:

frontend/src/app/blog/fsma-204-cte-kde-guide/page.tsx is unchanged, but the copy-lint classifier still detects two epcis-unlabeled findings in that file. The configured copy-gate.yml command compares detected counts with baseline.json; removing this entry makes the baseline stale and sets the command’s exit code to 1.
