Changes how traceability_lot_code is resolved, filtered, and emitted in canonical ingest and EPCIS export; enabling the flag alters stored TLC and thus event hash/idempotency until a migration path exists, though default-off behavior is explicitly preserved.
Overview
Adds SEL-598 / H2 support so traceability lot codes can be stored and exported as full LGTIN or GS1 Digital Link class URIs, with bare lot tokens derived for filters and rebuilds.
Introduces shared/epcis_lot_identity.py behind LOT_IDENTITY_LOSSLESS (default off). When enabled, canonical EPCIS normalization prefers full class URIs from quantity/EPC lists, keeps legacy resolvers unchanged when the flag is off (preserving TLC, hashes, and idempotency keys), and enriches transformation inputs with lot_token plus dedupe by full lot_key so same lot / different GTIN stay distinct.
EPCIS export gains dual-read lot filtering (_lot_code_filter + post-query _row_matches_lot) so exports match rows stored as bare tokens or full URIs. _epc_class now passes stored valid class URIs through unchanged, gates emission on _valid_class_uri, and never uses a full URI as the /10/{lot} rebuild segment.
Regression coverage lives in tests/shared/test_epcis_lot_identity_sel598.py and updated export SQL expectations in test_epcis_export_1342.py.

Canonical stored identity is the full LGTIN or GS1 Digital Link; bare lot
is derived. Export emits a stored class URI unchanged and never passes a
full URI as the lot argument when rebuilding. Flag LOT_IDENTITY_LOSSLESS
defaults on (set 0 to restore segment-only writes). Synthetic tests only.
Reconstruct GTIN-14 from EPC company.item with indicator + check digit;
preserve bare ILMD/flat TLC (no fabricated Digital Link from SGTIN GTIN);
export only via _valid_class_uri; dedupe transformation inputs by lot_key;
tighten round-trip and add regression tests.

The changes add shared EPCIS lot identity parsing, normalization, and stored-lot resolution. Event processing uses normalized identities for lot resolution and transformation inputs. Export filters bare lot tokens and full class URIs, and extracts lot tokens when rebuilding Digital Links. Tests cover parsing, normalization, event processing, transformation inputs, and export.
The lossless lot identity change is opt-in, but several edge cases can still produce incomplete or altered FDA export data, such as dropped transformation inputs, a rebuilt class identifier replacing an invalid stored one, and lot-filtered exports missing rows. These should be fixed or explicitly accepted before merge.
Security architecture risk: Moderate · up to 16fc6
Tenant isolation remains enforced, and lossless canonical writes are disabled by default. However, the new export filtering can undermine completeness checks, while enabling the new identity representation can disrupt replay deduplication and historical lineage. These risks affect traceability evidence integrity rather than establishing cross-tenant access.
Retained concerns
Medium · reliability · inferred: The new dual-read pipeline limits coarse SQL candidates before exact lot matching. If more than 50,001 candidates exist and rejected suffix collisions occupy the newest window, older genuine matches can be omitted while the post-filter count remains below the 413 threshold. This weakens the fail-closed completeness guarantee for traceability evidence. It requires a qualifying dataset within one tenant; production occurrence is not established.
Medium · architecture · inferred: Enabling lossless writes changes persisted identity without a demonstrated cross-representation transition mechanism. Replaying an event across flag states changes its idempotency key, and a full-URI transformation input cannot resolve an older bare-token event through the existing exact lookup; a link can be stored with null input_event_id. Returning the flag to disabled affects future writes but does not reconcile this history. This is a conditional enablement and rollback concern: the default is disabled and the module explicitly warns against enabling before a migration or dual-key path exists.
Security review details
Security Blast Radius
inferred — The demonstrated exposure is integrity and completeness of an authenticated tenant's event history, lineage and exports. Manipulating the export candidate window additionally requires control over qualifying stored events in that tenant. The changed lot predicates do not provide a cross-tenant selector.
Security Findings and Attack Paths
inferred — A stored class identifier ending in a longer lot such as X.LOT can satisfy the coarse suffix predicate for LOT and then be rejected by exact matching. Enough newer rejected candidates can displace older genuine rows before filtering, allowing an incomplete FDA export without the intended over-cap error. This is a source-derived failure path, not a demonstrated production exploit.
Trust Boundaries and Controls
observed — Both export handlers use authenticated TenantContext rather than the request's tenant field. Tenant resolution rejects conflicting client claims, and the event query and KDE selection retain explicit tenant predicates with bound lot parameters. These controls predate the PR and remain in place.
Resilience and Maintainability Implications
observed — The existing persistence writer serializes tenant chain growth, performs tenant-scoped idempotency checks and stages graph synchronization after database writes. These controls address same-key retries and ordering; they do not equate the different keys produced across identity modes.
Hardening Proposals
proposed — Make exact lot matching govern the export completeness boundary, or explicitly report incomplete results when candidate-window exhaustion prevents proving completeness.
proposed — Keep lossless writes disabled until a versioned transition or dual-key strategy preserves replay identity and historical lineage, including mixed-worker operation and rollback reconciliation.

GTIN-14 rebuild — _company_item_to_gtin14 uses Indicator = first item digit, then indicator + company + item[1:] + GS1 check digit. Doc example 0614141.123452 → 10614141234520 (not naive 0+company+item). Verified against fsma_validation.verify_gs1_check_digit for several company-prefix splits (6–12) and normalize/pad paths for GTIN-8/12/13/14 (incl. GS1 sample 09506000134352, EAN-13 4006381333931).
Bare ILMD / flat TLC — When no class URI is present, ILMD and flat TLC stay bare (normalize_epcis_lot without inventing a Digital Link from an SGTIN-derived GTIN). Covered by test_bare_ilmd_tlc_preserved_with_sgtin_epc; flat-only path returns the bare token.
_epc_class — Emits only valid class URIs: urn:epc:class:lgtin:… (company+item length 13) or https://id.gs1.org/01/<14>/10/… with valid check digit. SGTIN instance URIs (urn:epc:id:sgtin:…) fail _valid_class_uri and are not emitted. Full URIs in traceability_lot_code are passed through unchanged; never embedded as the {lot} segment when rebuilding.
Transformation dedupe — Keys are ("class", lot_key) and ("epc", segment). Same bare lot / different GTIN keeps both class URIs; class vs EPC namespaces do not collide. lot_token retained alongside full traceability_lot_code.
Digital Link round-trip / rejection — test_both_pass_fixture_round_trip_full_id asserts exact full-ID equality after token→rebuild. Export rejects invalid LGTIN length and bad check-digit Digital Links (test_export_rejects_invalid_class_uri_from_lenient_parse).

Fix instance-EPC deduplication dropping inputs that share a serial.
dedup_key = ("epc", segment) uses only the SGTIN serial. Serials are unique only within one GTIN. Two different input EPCs with the same serial but different GTINs collapse into one entry, and the second input is silently dropped. The input class loop above already keys on the full class identity. This loop does not.
In lossless mode, lot_key is also identity.canonical_id. For an SGTIN, normalize_epcis_lot sets that to the bare serial, so the GTIN is lost from traceability_lot_code.
Dropping a transformation input loses a 21 CFR 1.1350(a)(1) input link. Key the dedup on the full trimmed EPC string.

Do not classify arbitrary TLC text as an EPC segment.
lot_token_only(raw_lot) treats any string containing lgtin or sgtin as a legacy identifier and returns the text after its final dot. A bare TLC such as supplier-lgtin.batch-7 can therefore be exported as batch-7. The base revision passed the _kde_scalar result from traceability_lot_code to export without this truncation.
The same behavior can corrupt canonical storage. normalize_epcis_lot also calls lot_token_only, so a value such as supplier-lgtin.batch-7 can become batch-7 or a Digital Link containing batch-7. Correct the fallback in the shared helper so both paths preserve bare TLCs.

Keep bare TLC values exactly as received.
The ILMD and flat TLC fallbacks still trim bare values before storing them. An input such as "LOT-123 " is stored as "LOT-123", so the stored TLC no longer matches the source value. Fixing this requires a shared change in services/shared/epcis_lot_identity.py, not an edit to these two branches alone.
The trimming predates this PR. The PR routes these values through normalize_epcis_lot, which still returns a stripped canonical_id for bare values. Because the normalizer is shared with the SGTIN and transformation-input paths, a change to bare-token handling must be checked against those paths and their deduplication keys.

Make lot filtering match lossless stored identities.
Lossless ingestion stores the full class URI in traceability_lot_code, and the legacy dual-write copies that value into fsma.cte_events. This query still compares that column directly with request.lot_code. A bare TLC request therefore returns no rows and produces a successful empty FDA/EPCIS export. Query both canonical and bare-token forms, or use a persisted lot-token column. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Keep full class identity in rollback-mode deduplication.
When LOT_IDENTITY_LOSSLESS=0, normalization makes canonical_id the bare lot token. This branch also uses that token in dedup_key. Reject malformed EPC identifiers before canonical normalization.
The EPCIS routes accept generic dictionaries, and _validate_epcis does not validate epcClass or inputEPCList syntax. A transformation with a valid output lot can therefore pass validation while normalize_epcis_lot rejects urn:epc:class:lgtin:bad.bad.LOT-1 and _epc_last_segment salvages LOT-1 as an input lot. Add Pydantic validation for class and instance EPC identifiers, and return the existing validation failure path before persistence. Do not rebuild a Digital Link from a rejected class URI.
A traceability_lot_code that fails the strict class-URI gate still reaches lot_token_only(). That function returns the lot segment for LGTIN-like text. With a valid gtin, _epc_class() then emits a new Digital Link built from the GTIN and that segment. For example, urn:epc:class:lgtin:1.2.LOT1 becomes a Digital Link ending in /10/LOT1. The export then carries a TLC identity that was never stored. FSMA traceability rules require TLCs to remain exact and linked to their source. Export must not regenerate a different class URI.
Apply the strict gate to URI-like values before token extraction. Valid class URIs and bare TLCs keep their current behavior.

…export lots
- LOT_IDENTITY_LOSSLESS now defaults to off. With the flag off, the
canonical TLC and transformation-input resolvers are the pre-H2 code
unchanged, so the stored TLC, GTIN KDE, event hash and idempotency key
do not move and re-ingest does not duplicate events. Turning the flag
on still needs a dual-key or migration path first (documented).
- EPCIS export lot filter reads both shapes: a bare lot also matches
full LGTIN / GS1 Digital Link class URIs carrying it, and a URI filter
also matches the bare historical row. Rows are re-checked by exact lot
token after the coarse SQL match.
- lot_token_only only applies the legacy LGTIN/SGTIN segment split to
urn:epc: values, so bare lots containing "lgtin"/"sgtin" are kept.
- Tests: flag-off parity with the pre-H2 resolvers, opt-in default,
bare-lot keyword cases, export dual-read filter.

Do not rebuild an invalid stored class URI from its lot segment.

Do not rebuild an invalid stored class URI from its lot segment.
If traceability_lot_code is a class URI that _valid_class_uri rejects and the row has a valid gtin, lot_token_only(raw_lot) can still extract its lot. _epc_class then emits a new Digital Link instead of exposing the invalid stored identifier. The invalid-URI test supplies no GTIN, so it does not cover this path. Reject the URI-like TLC before reconstruction unless an independent bare lot token supplies the lot. (raw.githubusercontent.com) As per path instructions, “Validation failures must be recorded as evidence, never swallowed.”

Update the lot reconstruction around lot_token_only and _valid_class_uri so a
rejected URI-like traceability_lot_code cannot supply a lot for _epc_class to
rebuild when a valid GTIN is present. Allow reconstruction only when an
independent bare lot token supplies the lot; preserve existing handling for
valid class URIs.

Match percent-encoded lot suffixes without hex-case sensitivity.
A stored Digital Link ending in LOT%2fA represents the same lot token as a bare filter LOT/A. quote generates LOT%2FA, but the case-sensitive right(...) = :lot_suffix comparison never fetches the stored row. Percent-encoding hex digits are case-insensitive. Make the SQL suffix match tolerant of hex case, while retaining the case-sensitive _row_matches_lot check for the decoded lot. (rfc-editor.org) As per path instructions, “flag anything that slows, breaks, or makes incomplete the FDA export path.”

Update the SQL suffix matching for `suffixes` so percent-escape hex digits match
regardless of case without making other suffix characters case-insensitive. Keep
`_row_matches_lot` as the case-sensitive check on the decoded lot.

Apply exact lot matching before the export row limit.
For a bare filter LOT, SQL also admits a stored URI ending in X.LOT. _row_matches_lot rejects that row, but SQL has already applied LIMIT 50001. If 50,001 newer false positives precede a matching event, the export omits the matching event and reports no cap error. Move exact matching into the bounded query, or continue fetching until the exact matches and cap decision are complete. As per path instructions, “Records must remain producible as a sortable spreadsheet within 24 hours of an FDA request.”

Update the export query flow around `_row_matches_lot` so exact lot matching is
applied before the 50,001-row limit, or continue fetching until exact matches
and the cap decision are complete. Preserve the existing exact-match behavior
and ensure false-positive SQL matches cannot crowd out matching export rows.

Export cap applied before lot filter
Medium Severity
Bare-lot export SQL matches any LGTIN or Digital Link that merely ends with .{token} or /10/{token}, then _query_tenant_events applies _MAX_EXPORT_EVENTS before _row_matches_lot drops those suffix collisions. The 413 check sees the reduced list, so a real lot can export a silent partial set instead of failing closed.

Lot filter misclassifies transformed tokens
Medium Severity
_lot_code_filter treats any value whose lot_token_only result differs from the raw string as a full class URI. Padding, a trailing newline, or a non-class EPC then takes the exact-plus-bare branch and skips URI suffix predicates, so dual-read misses stored LGTIN and Digital Link rows that _row_matches_lot would otherwise accept.

Changes how
traceability_lot_codeis resolved, filtered, and emitted in canonical ingest and EPCIS export; enabling the flag alters stored TLC and thus event hash/idempotency until a migration path exists, though default-off behavior is explicitly preserved.Overview
Adds SEL-598 / H2 support so traceability lot codes can be stored and exported as full LGTIN or GS1 Digital Link class URIs, with bare lot tokens derived for filters and rebuilds.
Introduces
shared/epcis_lot_identity.pybehindLOT_IDENTITY_LOSSLESS(default off). When enabled, canonical EPCIS normalization prefers full class URIs from quantity/EPC lists, keeps legacy resolvers unchanged when the flag is off (preserving TLC, hashes, and idempotency keys), and enriches transformation inputs withlot_tokenplus dedupe by fulllot_keyso same lot / different GTIN stay distinct.EPCIS export gains dual-read lot filtering (
_lot_code_filter+ post-query_row_matches_lot) so exports match rows stored as bare tokens or full URIs._epc_classnow passes stored valid class URIs through unchanged, gates emission on_valid_class_uri, and never uses a full URI as the/10/{lot}rebuild segment.Regression coverage lives in
