Legacy EPCIS extraction path for SEL-598 / H2 lossless lot identity (recovered from closed#3728).
services/ingestion/app/epcis/extraction.py delegates class-URI parsing to shared.epcis_lot_identity.parse_class_uri so LGTIN / GS1 Digital Link TLC stays the full URI (lot token derived).
Synthetic fixtures under services/ingestion/tests/fixtures/sel598/ (both-pass + lenient-only). No partner data.
Unit coverage in test_epcis_extraction_1342.py.
Dependency
Requires the shared normalizer from #3737 (pi/epcis-gtin14-dl). That module is not on main yet; CI for this PR will fail import until #3737 merges (or this PR is retargeted onto that branch). File list intentionally does not include any of #3737's paths.
Medium Risk
Changes how traceability_lot_code is resolved, filtered, and exported across ingest and canonical paths; default flag-off limits write-path impact, but export dual-read SQL and _epc_class logic affect compliance-facing EPCIS output.
Overview
Adds SEL-598 / H2 support so traceability lot codes can be stored as the full LGTIN or GS1 Digital Link class URI (not only the bare lot segment), behind the opt-in LOT_IDENTITY_LOSSLESS env flag (default off).
A new shared/epcis_lot_identity module centralizes parsing, lot_token_only, and normalization; legacy epcis/extraction now delegates LGTIN/Digital Link parsing there while keeping a permissive Digital Link fallback for non-id.gs1.org hosts.
Canonical EPCIS normalization keeps the pre-H2 resolver when the flag is off (unchanged TLC, hashes, idempotency); when on, class URIs win over ILMD, bare ILMD is preserved (no Digital Link rebuild from SGTIN), and transformation inputs carry both traceability_lot_code and lot_token.
EPCIS/FDA export gains dual-read lot filtering (SQL suffix match + post-filter exact token match) so exports work whether rows store bare tokens or full URIs, and _epc_class emits stored class URIs unchanged and avoids nesting a full URI into a rebuilt /10/{lot} path. Export still gates emitted URIs through strict _valid_class_uri.
Synthetic fixtures and broad unit tests cover round-trip identity, flag-off parity with legacy, and export filter edge cases.
Reviewed by Cursor Bugbot for commit c0c1a78. Bugbot is set up for automated code reviews on this repo. Configure here.
Canonical stored identity is the full LGTIN or GS1 Digital Link; bare lot
is derived. Export emits a stored class URI unchanged and never passes a
full URI as the lot argument when rebuilding. Flag LOT_IDENTITY_LOSSLESS
defaults on (set 0 to restore segment-only writes). Synthetic tests only.
Reconstruct GTIN-14 from EPC company.item with indicator + check digit;
preserve bare ILMD/flat TLC (no fabricated Digital Link from SGTIN GTIN);
export only via _valid_class_uri; dedupe transformation inputs by lot_key;
tighten round-trip and add regression tests.

Wire app.epcis.extraction through shared.epcis_lot_identity.parse_class_uri
so the legacy path keeps full LGTIN / GS1 Digital Link as TLC. Adds synthetic
sel598 fixtures and extraction unit coverage from closed#3728.
Depends on pi/epcis-gtin14-dl (#3737) for the shared normalizer module.
No epcis_export / canonical_event / graph changes.

Walkthrough
The EPCIS lot extraction path now uses the shared parse_class_uri parser and retains the Digital Link parser as a fallback. Tests cover full-identifier TLC preservation and separate lot-code extraction for LGTIN and Digital Link inputs. Two SEL-598 fixtures record EPCIS events with both-pass and lenient-only validation expectations.
The extraction change depends on a module that is not present at this revision, and some valid lot identifiers can still be dropped. These issues should be resolved before merging.
Security architecture risk: Moderate · up to ab471
The parser change is narrow, but this revision depends on a companion module that is not included. Deploying it independently can prevent the ingestion application and the consolidated server from starting when EPCIS ingestion is enabled. No new authentication bypass or attacker-driven exploit was established; the missing parser also limits verification of lot-identity behavior.
Retained concerns
Medium · reliability · inferred: The reviewed revision cannot deploy independently with EPCIS ingestion enabled. Its unconditional shared-parser import references an absent module, so router loading can abort the hosting ingestion application or consolidated server rather than containing the failure to lot parsing. The companion implementation must be included in the deployed revision to satisfy this dependency.
Security review details
Security Blast Radius
inferred — The demonstrated failure path is deployment-triggered, not dependent on a malicious identifier or tenant privilege. With EPCIS enabled, its import can prevent the hosting process from starting and consequently affect every tenant and route served by that process. This does not establish failure of independently deployed services.
Trust Boundaries and Controls
observed — Tenant resolution remains separate from lot-identifier parsing. The existing router rejects tenant_id query overrides and resolves tenant context from authentication headers. The extraction change does not alter those controls or add authority-bearing operations; this inspection does not constitute a complete authentication assessment.
Resilience and Maintainability Implications
observed — The standalone ingestion entrypoint conditionally imports EPCIS according to its router-disable configuration, providing containment when that router is explicitly disabled. Its default configuration enables the router, and the consolidated production router set also includes EPCIS, so the configuration gate does not resolve the default deployment dependency.

Land the shared parser before importing it unconditionally
In deployments enabling epcis_ingestion, this import prevents the ingestion service from starting: services/ingestion/main.py imports the EPCIS router, whose normalization module imports this file. A repository-wide search, including the reviewed commit's tracked files and build artifacts, found no shared.epcis_lot_identity implementation, and executing this file with PYTHONPATH=services reproduces ModuleNotFoundError. The dependency mentioned in the commit message does not supply it to this revision. Land that dependency first, include its implementation, or preserve the existing parser until it is available.
PASS — Legacy extraction correctly delegates class-URI parsing to shared.epcis_lot_identity.parse_class_uri. Authors are Grok; no hermes commits.
Code
_lot_from_identifier returns (lot_token, full canonical URI) for LGTIN / id.gs1.org Digital Link via the shared normalizer; keeps the more permissive host path via _lot_from_digital_link for non-id.gs1.org links.
ILMD still wins over class URIs on the legacy path (intentional precedence difference vs canonical H2).
SGTIN instance identifiers are not treated as lot-level (_lot_from_identifier → None).
Observation (non-blocking): both_pass.json GTIN 00012345678901 fails GS1 check-digit verify while expected_strict: true — fixtures are not yet asserted by the suite; fix before wiring a strict gate to them.
Tests / CI
Alone on main: collection ERROR (ModuleNotFoundError: shared.epcis_lot_identity) — expected.
Replace 00012345678901 (bad mod-10 check digit) with 00012345678004
everywhere in the both_pass fixture so expected_strict can hold.

Do not reject the placeholder substring inside an LGTIN lot.
The shared parser returns None whenever the URI contains 0000000.000000. In urn:epc:class:lgtin:0614141.107346.0000000.000000, that value is the lot token, not the GTIN components. The Digital Link fallback does not recognize this URN, so _lot_from_identifier returns None and can drop the TLC when ILMD is absent.
Restrict the placeholder check to the GTIN components.

Exercise the SEL-598 fixtures through validation.
both_pass.json and lenient_only.json declare strict and lenient outcomes, but no test loads either fixture. The added tests use inline records and assert only extraction results. A regression in fixture-shaped validation integration can therefore pass the added tests. Add a fixture-driven test that calls the pre-persistence validation path in both modes and asserts expected_strict and expected_lenient.

Add a fixture-driven test that loads both `both_pass.json` and
`lenient_only.json` and runs each through the pre-persistence validation path in
strict and lenient modes. Assert the validation results match each fixture’s
`expected_strict` and `expected_lenient` values, rather than checking extraction
alone.

Fixtures invent lot identity
Medium Severity
The new SEL-598 fixtures and unit tests invent traceability lot codes and Digital Link class URIs, including 00012345678004-LotA, LotA, and LotRebuild. lenient_only.json also pairs the harvesting TLC with a fabricated companion GTIN. Nothing in the suite loads those fixture files, and the extraction test module itself says identifier parsing needs a real EPCIS record.
Merged main into this branch. There were no conflicts, and I made no code changes.
Why CI is red:extraction.py imports shared.epcis_lot_identity, which only exists in #3737. The import error then cascades through the ingestion, shared, isolation and Docker jobs. That matches the dependency note in this PR's description.
Local checks (Python 3.11): with #3737's services/shared/epcis_lot_identity.py overlaid temporarily (not committed), the full pytest services/ingestion/tests -n auto passes (rc=0). Without it, the suite fails on the import.
…export lots
- LOT_IDENTITY_LOSSLESS now defaults to off. With the flag off, the
canonical TLC and transformation-input resolvers are the pre-H2 code
unchanged, so the stored TLC, GTIN KDE, event hash and idempotency key
do not move and re-ingest does not duplicate events. Turning the flag
on still needs a dual-key or migration path first (documented).
- EPCIS export lot filter reads both shapes: a bare lot also matches
full LGTIN / GS1 Digital Link class URIs carrying it, and a URI filter
also matches the bare historical row. Rows are re-checked by exact lot
token after the coarse SQL match.
- lot_token_only only applies the legacy LGTIN/SGTIN segment split to
urn:epc: values, so bare lots containing "lgtin"/"sgtin" are kept.
- Tests: flag-off parity with the pre-H2 resolvers, opt-in default,
bare-lot keyword cases, export dual-read filter.

…ot_identity
#3738 imports shared.epcis_lot_identity, which lands with #3737. Merge
the fixed#3737 branch so this branch builds on its own; merge #3737
first. Also fixes blank lines after removing _LGTIN_RE.

Export cap allows silent lot truncation
Medium Severity
_query_tenant_events applies the 50,001-row LIMIT to a coarse suffix predicate, then _row_matches_lot drops suffix collisions in Python. _load_export_rows checks the hard cap against that already-shrunk list, so true lot matches beyond the SQL window can be omitted without a 413.
Delta vs prior FAIL: extraction.py delegates to shared.epcis_lot_identity; stack on #3737 for the shared module (merge after #3737). Fixtures are structural SEL-598 samples (OK). Local: 70 passed.

Changes how
traceability_lot_codeis resolved, filtered, and exported across ingest and canonical paths; default flag-off limits write-path impact, but export dual-read SQL and_epc_classlogic affect compliance-facing EPCIS output.Overview
Adds SEL-598 / H2 support so traceability lot codes can be stored as the full LGTIN or GS1 Digital Link class URI (not only the bare lot segment), behind the opt-in
LOT_IDENTITY_LOSSLESSenv flag (default off).A new
shared/epcis_lot_identitymodule centralizes parsing,lot_token_only, and normalization; legacyepcis/extractionnow delegates LGTIN/Digital Link parsing there while keeping a permissive Digital Link fallback for non-id.gs1.orghosts.Canonical EPCIS normalization keeps the pre-H2 resolver when the flag is off (unchanged TLC, hashes, idempotency); when on, class URIs win over ILMD, bare ILMD is preserved (no Digital Link rebuild from SGTIN), and transformation inputs carry both
traceability_lot_codeandlot_token.EPCIS/FDA export gains dual-read lot filtering (SQL suffix match + post-filter exact token match) so exports work whether rows store bare tokens or full URIs, and
_epc_classemits stored class URIs unchanged and avoids nesting a full URI into a rebuilt/10/{lot}path. Export still gates emitted URIs through strict_valid_class_uri.Synthetic fixtures and broad unit tests cover round-trip identity, flag-off parity with legacy, and export filter edge cases.
