Changes canonical traceability_lot_code shape and dedup/hash semantics for EPCIS events, but rollback is env-flagged and export/ingest paths are covered by targeted tests.
Overview SEL-598 (H2) adds shared lot normalization so ingest and export stop truncating LGTINs and GS1 Digital Link class URIs to bare lot tokens.
A new epcis_lot_identity module parses full class URIs, derives lot_token for UI/rebuild paths, and gates behavior with LOT_IDENTITY_LOSSLESS (on by default; 0/false restores segment-only traceability_lot_code writes).
Canonical EPCIS normalization now prefers full class URIs from quantity classes/EPCs, runs ILMD and flat lot fields through normalize_epcis_lot, and records lot_token on transformation inputs alongside the stored lot key.
**EPCIS export _epc_class emits an stored full URI unchanged (including from traceability_lot_code) and uses lot_token_only so GTIN+lot rebuilds never embed a full URI in the /10/lot-segment segment.
Synthetic coverage lives in test_epcis_lot_identity_sel598.py.

Canonical stored identity is the full LGTIN or GS1 Digital Link; bare lot
is derived. Export emits a stored class URI unchanged and never passes a
full URI as the lot argument when rebuilding. Flag LOT_IDENTITY_LOSSLESS
defaults on (set 0 to restore segment-only writes). Synthetic tests only.

The changes add shared helpers to parse and normalize EPCIS lot identities, including LGTIN and GS1 Digital Link class URIs. Canonical event handling uses these helpers for lot resolution and transformation inputs. Export uses them to identify class URIs and extract lot tokens when building Digital Links. The LOT_IDENTITY_LOSSLESS setting controls whether full class URIs remain canonical or resolve to lot tokens. New tests cover parsing, normalization, event handling, transformation inputs, and export.
This change can store a wrong GTIN and rewrite received lot codes in EPCIS records. It can also drop transformation input lots and export invalid class URIs, which risks incomplete lot linkage in traceability and FDA exports. Fix these before merging.
Security architecture risk: Moderate · up to 76eb2
This changes the stored lot identifier format without demonstrated compatibility for historical records or rollback. Traceability can become incomplete, and malformed identifiers can enter exported documents. The reviewed tenant-isolation controls remain intact.
Retained concerns
High · reliability · inferred: Default-on URI identities are incompatible with historical token-based lineage keys in the inspected persistence path. A transformation referencing a full class URI cannot resolve a source event stored under its bare token; the writer then permits a null input_event_id. Forward traversal from the historical token also misses edges keyed by the URI. Disabling the flag changes future writes without reconciling existing identifiers, and ordinary same-key retries return before recreating links. This makes lineage continuity and rollback incomplete.
Medium · security · observed: Export now treats recognition by the lenient shared parser as sufficient to emit a class URI unchanged. This bypasses the existing validator's Digital Link length and check-digit requirements and its stricter LGTIN shape constraints. Stored malformed identifiers can consequently enter the exported traceability document instead of taking a validated fallback or being skipped. Optional document validation does not recheck these identifier properties. The demonstrated boundary weakening concerns output integrity, not network access or tenant authorization.
Security review details
Security Blast Radius
inferred — The demonstrated exposure is the integrity of affected tenants' stored lineage and exported traceability documents. The code is shared across EPCIS users, but the reviewed export and source-event lookups retain explicit tenant predicates. No cross-tenant expansion or additional credential authority was established.
Security Findings and Attack Paths
inferred — A party able to populate stored tenant class or lot fields can supply an identifier that fails the previous strict validator but passes the new parser. Export then places it into EPCIS quantity fields. The supported outcome is malformed identity propagation; external consumer behavior and exploitation beyond document integrity are unknown.
Trust Boundaries and Controls
observed — Export obtains the authoritative tenant identifier from TenantContext rather than the request's tenant_id field, then queries tenant-scoped rows. The changed helper transforms those loaded values and returns JSON; it does not use a class URI to select a tenant or perform a network request.
Resilience and Maintainability Implications
observed — The writer serializes canonical writes per tenant and short-circuits existing idempotency keys. Those controls do not reconcile identity aliases: a missing exact-match source can produce a link with a null event reference, while a subsequent same-key retry returns before link creation. The recovery limitation predates the PR, but the representation transition newly exposes it to historical identifier mismatches.
Hardening Proposals
proposed — Define a representation-independent, tenant-scoped identity resolver that retains product identity, with historical compatibility and replay-safe link reconciliation before relying on the default-on transition or rollback. Avoid token-only aliasing that would merge different products.
proposed — Separate lossless preservation from strict outbound validation. Preserve received identifiers for provenance, but consistently validate class structure, GTIN construction, and check digits before treating an identifier as an exportable class.
