fix(domains): use regengine.co instead of third-party RegEngine domains - #3679
the frontend snapshot fallback email admin@tenant-.regengine.io becomes ...regengine.co (frontend/src/app/compliance/snapshots/page.tsx)
it also adds the guard test tests/invariants/test_no_third_party_regengine_domains.py
Auth redirect or callback URLs changed: none. No Supabase auth redirect, OAuth callback, site_url or email-link URL is touched. The only URL defaults changed are TRACEABILITY_DOMAIN (a traceability label/link base) and User-Agent contact strings. Supabase Expert should confirm before merge.
Note on the agent mailbox domain: agents..regengine.co mail only works once DNS and MX exist for that subdomain, and the same was true for .dev.
Tests: the guard test and the agent_org onboarding, providers and router tests pass locally (56 passed). Main was merged in, and the branch was already up to date with it.
Note
Medium Risk
Runtime default URL and inbox-domain changes affect label QR bases and newly provisioned dev inbox strings if env vars are unset; operators need regengine.co DNS (and MX for agent mail) to match the new defaults.
Overview
Replaces hardcoded regengine.ai / .dev / .com / .io references with regengine.co so production defaults, docs, and examples no longer point traffic (label QR URLs, crawler User-Agents, dev agent inboxes, support/sales emails) at domains RegEngine does not own.
Runtime defaults updated in server/main.py and ingestion (USER_AGENT), services/graph/app/routers/labels.py (TRACEABILITY_DOMAIN default now https://regengine.co instead of trace.regengine.ai), services/shared/agent_org/providers.py (dev inbox addresses use agents.{tenant}.regengine.co), URL-ingest fetch headers in routes_ingest.py, and the compliance snapshots page fallback actor email. Matching expectations were updated in agent-org tests.
Adds tests/invariants/test_no_third_party_regengine_domains.py, which scans server/, services/, and frontend/src and fails CI if those legacy domains reappear in non-test source. Launch orchestrator env examples, design-partner guides, security/runbook copy, and related markdown were aligned to the same domain; no Supabase/OAuth auth redirect or callback URLs are changed in this diff.

regengine.ai and regengine.dev are live third-party sites, regengine.com is
registered to a third party, and regengine.io ownership is unconfirmed. Docs
and example config still told readers and design partners to email or call
those domains. Point them at regengine.co instead.
- docs/security/TRUST_FRAMEWORK.md, launch_orchestrator/README.md:
security@regengine.ai -> security@regengine.co
- launch_orchestrator/.env.example, scripts/setup_environment.sh,
DEPLOYMENT_READINESS.md: regengine.ai hosts/addresses -> regengine.co;
the "register a domain" steps now say regengine.co is already registered
- launch_orchestrator/design_partners/*: sandbox/docs/status hosts and
support@ -> regengine.co; oncall@ -> support@, partnerships@ -> sales@
(those two mailboxes are not used anywhere else on regengine.co)
- launch_orchestrator/orchestrator.py: contact line in the generated
one-pager template (string only, no behavior change)
- docs/runbooks/BULK_DATA_REPAIR.md, scripts/security/verify_audit_chain.sh
(comment), services/ingestion/INGESTION_FRAMEWORK_README.md: .com/.io ->
.co. The README also loses trailing whitespace on 8 other lines because
the trailing-whitespace pre-commit hook rewrites any file it checks.
Not changed here (need a decision): agent_org inbox addresses on
*.regengine.dev, the trace.regengine.ai label QR default, User-Agent
strings, the snapshots-page fallback email, and historical records.

Replaces trace.regengine.ai, regengine.com, regengine.io and regengine.dev defaults with regengine.co, and adds tests/invariants/test_no_third_party_regengine_domains.py as a guard.
Signed-off-by: Christopher Sellers <1@christophersellers.com>
Runtime defaults and generated agent inbox addresses now use regengine.co. Deployment settings, documentation, contact details, and examples also use the updated domain. The ingestion fetch User-Agent now uses a website URL instead of an email address. Tests update inbox expectations and add a scan for specified prior domains in production source files.
Generated labels may not open traceability information, and partners may be unable to reach the promised API documentation. Resolve the QR destination before merging and publish or correct the documentation links.
Security architecture risk: Low · up to 0cff2
The inspected changes do not establish a new authorization bypass or expansion of privileges. The remaining risk is concentrated in rollout readiness: the new traceability destination needs a working resolver, and generated inbox addresses do not themselves provide mail delivery. Existing stored addresses and printed labels are not migrated.
Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.
Security review details
Security Blast Radius
inferred — The changed traceability destination affects new labels generated by deployments using the default configuration. Scanning such a URL exposes its GTIN, lot, and serial to the destination host. This URL-data flow predates the PR; the PR changes the receiving authority, not the encoded data. New development inbox rows receive the new suffix without changing database ownership scope.
Trust Boundaries and Controls
inferred — The inspected label and onboarding controls do not establish a PR-induced authorization bypass. However, those controls do not prove the destination website's access policy: the available source does not establish that regengine.co serves the generated GS1 path with the intended public or authenticated resolver behavior.
Resilience and Maintainability Implications
inferred — The inbox suffix change adds no external provisioning side effect and leaves onboarding's commit-before-key-minting and retry paths unchanged. Label URL construction still occurs after serial reservation and outside the database operation. The inspected changes therefore do not alter those transition or recovery mechanisms, though they do not establish that the pre-existing mechanisms are flawless.
Hardening Proposals
proposed — Before issuing durable labels with the new default, verify domain control, TLS, the complete GS1 resolver path, and its intended data-access policy. Treat any future mail enablement as a separate controlled rollout with explicit DNS, MX, and delivery verification; the development provider's generated address is not proof of a working mailbox.

Publish docs.regengine.co before sharing this guide, or replace these links with URLs that serve the same content.
The guide sends partners to docs.regengine.co for the OpenAPI spec, Swagger UI, and code examples. The deployment plan still lists hosting the API docs at that host as required work. The initial probe reported no HTTP response from it.
https://regengine.co/docs returns HTTP 200, but the inspected sources do not show that it provides the same resources. The docs pages found by search do not include a Swagger UI page or an /examples route. The SDKs page links /openapi.json, which differs from the openapi.yaml path in the guide. Confirm that any replacement URL serves each listed resource before linking to it.

Provide a resolver before using regengine.co as the default.
generate_qr_payload emits /01/{gtin}/10/{lot}/21/{serial} URLs. A representative URL at https://regengine.co currently returns 404 Not Found with X-Matched-Path: /_not-found. Default-generated labels can therefore fail to retrieve traceability information.
Deploy the resolver first, or require TRACEABILITY_DOMAIN to point to a configured resolver domain. Verify a generated label for a known lot before enabling this default.

Muse Code 1.4.14 reviewed the whole diff at 0cff2106f in six read-only packages (running code; drift guard and frontend; agent_org tests; three docs and example-config groups), with write, shell and web tools disabled. Verdict on every package: PASS, no blocking defect. Claude Code posted this on Christopher's account at his request. In parallel, five Claude agents read the repository at 0cff2106f through independent lenses (QR URL, inbox addresses, User-Agent strings, the drift guard, wrong replacements and leftovers), with a skeptic assigned to refute any blocking claim; none was raised.
Verified
Every replacement is a host-only change in running code: TRACEABILITY_DOMAIN has one reader (generate_qr_payload) and no path or subdomain assumption; the inbox address meets the only constraint on agent_org.agent_inboxes.email_address (TEXT NOT NULL UNIQUE); the User-Agent values stay valid product/comment syntax; no test asserted the old literals.
Digital Link consumers are host-agnostic (gs1-parser.ts, qr_decoder.py, epcis/extraction.py, _TLC_DIGITAL_LINK_RE), so a regengine.co link still validates as a TLC.
The drift guard's regex spares regengine.co and regengine.community; emulating its scan with git grep at 0cff2106f finds zero hits in server/, services/, frontend/src, and at the merge-base finds exactly the six files the PR fixes, so it passes here and would have failed before.
No remaining regengine.ai, .dev, .io or .com in added lines; the only surviving trace.regengine.ai is the guard's own positive test case.
Formatting hunks in routes_ingest.py, providers.py and two test files are exactly what the repo's pre-commit hooks emit.
Non-blocking follow-ups
QR landing route. Default labels now encode https://regengine.co/01/{gtin}/10/{lot}/21/{serial}, and this commit has no route for it, so a scan lands on the 404 page. Previously it reached a third party's site, so this is an improvement, not a regression. #3685 adds that route.
Drift guard does not run on PRs.tests/invariants runs from test-suite-check.yml on push to main and nightly; backend-ci.yml runs only three named invariant tests on PRs. Adding this test to that list catches a reintroduced domain before merge.
Guard scope.SCAN_ROOTS omit launch_orchestrator/ and scripts/, both of which this PR had to fix.
No DB backfill. Existing agent_inboxes rows with .regengine.dev addresses are returned as stored; new agents get .regengine.co. Whether any such rows exist in production is not verified.
Mailbox and host assumptions in docs and example config.oncall@ and partnerships@ became support@ and sales@regengine.co (a routing decision, not a pure domain swap); demo., sandbox., docs., status. and api.regengine.co are now assumed to exist; INGESTION_FRAMEWORK_README.md says regengine.co/docs where the guides say docs.regengine.co.
CI. Security Audit, Backend CI Status Gate and PR Gate: Backend fail on this PR for a reason unrelated to it: requirements.lock on main pins authlib 1.8.0, which pip-audit flags. #3686 fixes the lock; re-run this PR's CI after it merges.
This verdict covers commit 0cff2106f only. Any new commit needs a fresh review.
Public landing page at /01/{gtin}/10/{lot}/21/{serial}, the GS1 Digital Link path printed on every RegEngine label QR (TRACEABILITY_DOMAIN moved to https://regengine.co in #3679, so scans had returned 404). Shows only what the code encodes (GTIN, lot, serial, check-digit result), links Trace this lot to /trace?tlc=, 404s malformed segments, noindex, robots disallow /01/. /trace prefills from ?tlc=. labels.py rejects empty, whitespace-only, "%", "." and ".." lots and runs lot_number through the ZPL control-character guard (pre-existing gap).
Reviewed by Muse (PASS at 949ad8c) and a five-lens adversarial verification (no blocking findings). Merged at Christopher's direction, 2026-10-28.

tests/invariants/test_no_third_party_regengine_domains.py (added in
#3679) fails if server/, services/ or frontend/src mention regengine.ai,
regengine.dev, regengine.io or regengine.com, which are not RegEngine's
domains. Until now it ran only from test-suite-check.yml on push to main
and nightly, so a PR that reintroduced one of those domains was caught
after it landed. Add it to the explicit invariant list the repo-root
suite runs on every PR; it takes under a second and needs no database.
