feat(compute): add room-booking-prisma-template community template - #8637
Adds compute/room-booking-prisma-template, a meeting room booking app for the Prisma app
gallery, and its entry in compute/templates.json.
What it is: a Next.js 16 App Router app where rooms are rows on a Resource Scheduler
timeline. Drag to book, move and resize; a taken slot turns red before you
drop.
Built on Prisma, end to end:
Prisma ORM 8: contract in src/prisma/contract.prisma, planned migrations, typed queries.
Prisma Postgres: provisioned per deploy by Composer's postgres(contract), migrations applied before the service starts.
Prisma Compute: module.ts + service.ts, Next.js standalone output, deployed by the included prisma-deploy workflow.
What it shows beyond the starter templates: the same booking rules run
in the browser and on the server; every write locks the room row inside db.transaction before checking, so concurrent requests for one slot queue
and exactly one wins; an EXCLUDE USING gist constraint (raw SQL step in
the init migration) backs it up in the database. An empty database seeds six
rooms and a day of bookings on first visit, so a fresh deploy has data.
Differences from the other templates: npm (package-lock.json) instead
of Bun, and Node 24 in the workflow (.nvmrc). The repository's .gitignore ignores package-lock.json, so this PR force-adds it: the Deploy Button and the workflow's npm ci need it.
Checked:npm run lint, npm run typecheck, npm test (unit tests, and
with TEST_DATABASE_URL the PostgreSQL tests, including 25 simultaneous
bookings of one slot), npm run build, and npm run dev:composer on Bun.
Deployed by the included prisma-deploy workflow: https://bfc8q8vlw5rdrtz5643og0b1.ewr.prisma.build.
templates.json gets a new author field, as the gallery page asks; happy
to change its shape.
Summary by CodeRabbit
New Features
Added a room-booking example with a visual room schedule, room availability, demo data, and tools to create, move, resize, and cancel bookings.
Booking rules prevent reservations outside office hours, in the past, or overlapping existing bookings. Database safeguards also prevent simultaneous bookings for the same room.
Added deployment support and configuration for local development and integration testing.
Documentation
Added setup, deployment, customization, and troubleshooting guidance, and listed the Room Booking template among the Prisma Compute examples.
Next.js room booking app on a Resource Scheduler timeline, with Prisma
ORM 8, Prisma Postgres and Prisma Compute. Adds the template folder, its
templates.json entry and a row in compute/README.md.
Included review availability: This review used your included allowance. Your plan provides up to 8 included reviews per hour; 6 remain after this review.
Walkthrough
This pull request adds a room-booking Prisma Compute template. It includes a PostgreSQL schema and migration, database seeding, booking API and validation, a Next.js scheduler interface, deployment configuration, documentation, and tests.
Changes
Room Booking Template
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Booking schema and migration compute/room-booking-prisma-template/src/prisma/*, compute/room-booking-prisma-template/migrations/*
Adds Room and Booking contracts and a migration with room relations, booking checks, indexes, and a PostgreSQL exclusion constraint against overlapping bookings.
Database setup and deployment compute/room-booking-prisma-template/module.ts, service.ts, prisma.config.ts, src/prisma/*, .github/workflows/*, project configuration and documentation, compute/README.md, compute/templates.json
Configures the application and database, seeds demo rooms and bookings, and adds a deployment workflow and local setup guidance. Registers the template in the Compute examples and template list.
Booking rules and API src/lib/*, src/server/*, src/app/api/bookings/*, tests/*
Adds time-zone-aware booking rules, request validation, transactional booking operations, and API routes for listing, creating, moving, and deleting bookings. Tests cover validation, scheduling rules, database constraints, concurrency, and seeding.
Scheduler interface src/app/*
Adds the booking page, room status display, booking dialog, and scheduler. The board supports creating, moving, resizing, and cancelling bookings, with optimistic updates and error handling.
The board can misrepresent saved bookings after a lost response or an overlapping refresh and write. These bounded display inconsistencies warrant owner awareness and follow-up but do not establish a deployment or database-integrity blocker.

Bound retained bookings without dropping current-status data.
fetchRange retains bookings from every visited range. events maps the accumulated bookings when its dependencies change. The 15-second now update re-renders Board, but now is not an events dependency, so it does not itself remap the events.
Retain current-office-day bookings, visible-range bookings, and pending bookings. Do not keep every visited range, and do not drop all out-of-range bookings because RoomStatus uses bookings to calculate current-time availability. This is a bounded-state improvement; no severe performance regression is established.

lines 191 - 193:
Update the booking retention logic in fetchRange so it keeps bookings for the
current office day, the visible range, and pending bookings, while pruning
bookings from other previously visited ranges. Preserve out-of-visible-range
bookings needed by RoomStatus for current-time availability; do not retain every
visited range or discard all out-of-range bookings.
The integration suite skips when TEST_DATABASE_URL is unset, and current CI does not select these tests or provide PostgreSQL. Add a CI job that starts PostgreSQL, sets TEST_DATABASE_URL, and runs npm test in compute/room-booking-prisma-template.
This is a coverage gap for currently working concurrency and exclusion-constraint behavior. It does not show that overlap protection currently fails.
