PageBroker now uses PrepareRestore/StageRestore for both direct and staged restores, PrepareCheckpoint to select local capture output, and PublishCheckpoint for every checkpoint commit. The transfer-engine interface no longer exposes filesystem-specific source/destination lookups, copying, or promotion.

Filesystem helpers provide direct access, CPU staging, and copy-or-rename publication. Prepared restores retain the GPU source descriptor separately from the transfer plan; returned access identifies the image directory and transaction-owned staging. Direct restores avoid tree scanning, copying, and staging reservations. Direct checkpoints retain rename publication and file inodes.

The shared transaction foundation adds admission, byte reservations, deadlines, cancellation, retained terminal results, and retryable cleanup. Cleanup follows recorded ownership, waits for GPU work to drain, and preserves borrowed sources and pre-existing output. Pending cleanup prevents terminal eviction even without admission limits. Checkpoint and restore preparation share the transaction deadline and cancellation token. Interrupted checkpoint preparation removes only owned output; direct preparation retries preserve capture data and the original deadline. Existing staging symlinks are rejected as conflicts. Startup removes stale staging without resuming transactions. Production resource-limit configuration remains in #416.

The Model Streamer S3 restore component follows in #258; S3 backend preparation and publication follow in #416. The layout changes formerly in #434 are included here.

Stack: main → #264 → #258 → #410 → #416 → #469.

Refs #267 and #237.

Unit tests remain in this PR. Python fixtures, real S3 transfers, daemon process tests, and checkpoint lifecycle tests are collected in #715, based on #469.

Validation: the retained native unit suite passed on this PR’s cleaned tree. Repository Go tests/builds and the moved integration suites passed during the separation. Full make check remains blocked by the existing Go/linter compatibility issue. GPU and cloud-cluster tests were not run.

Pin the Helm unittest plugin source. helm plugin install fetches and executes code from the repository’s mutable default ref. Pin the plugin to an immutable commit or verified release artifact to prevent upstream changes from altering CI-executed code. The workflow grants only contents: read, so the impact is limited to the CI runner and read-only repository data.

🟡 Minor · Load local images before the push commands. · docs/development/build-from-source.md:32-32

32-32: 🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Load local images before the push commands.

If the selected Buildx builder uses docker-container, the empty DOCKER_BUILD_ARGS default leaves each result in BuildKit cache. The later docker push commands cannot find the images locally. The default docker driver loads images automatically, so this is conditional on using a non-default builder.

All three builds are single-platform, so --load is compatible with this workflow.

Functions added here with no callers in this PR:

  • TransferEngine::ResolveArtifactTarget and TransferEngine::ValidateArtifact (transfer_engine.hpp:90,93)
  • utils::ComputeSha256 and both utils::ComputeFileSha256 overloads (utils/sha256.hpp:18-24). These are declared but not defined here.

Are these called in a later PR (I see #416 and #383 use them)? If so, could they move there?

Re the unused hooks: removed them from #264 through #410 (1683126); #416 now introduces them with their first callers.
The unused SHA declarations were already removed. Propagated through the stack, preserving downstream artifact behavior.
