Desktop mice report whole pixels through AWT, so a slow stroke passes through every pixel it crosses and comes out as a wobbly staircase. SignaturePad now takes a minPointDistance and skips moves closer than that to the last point drawn, while still ending each stroke where the pointer lifted. The default is 2.dp on the JVM and 0.dp elsewhere. The old signature is kept as a hidden overload for binary compatibility. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
A move that left the pad but stayed within minPointDistance of the last point was held back, so the state never saw the pointer leave. If it came back in without getting farther than that, the stroke carried on instead of ending at the edge. A move that crosses the edge, either way, now always goes through. Addresses CodeRabbit's review. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

Why
On desktop, Compose gets mouse positions from AWT, which only reports whole logical pixels. A slow stroke passes through every pixel it crosses, and each one becomes a curve point, so the line comes out as a wobbly staircase.
What
SignaturePadtakes a newminPointDistance: Dpparameter. Moves closer than that to the last point drawn are skipped, including Android's batched in-between moves. When a stroke ends, the most recent skipped move is still drawn, so the stroke ends where the pointer lifted. That holds whether the pointer lifts, the drag is cancelled, another finger takes over, or the pad is disabled. A move that crosses the pad's edge is never skipped, so the stroke still ends at the edge and a new one starts where the pointer comes back.SignaturePadDefaults.minPointDistance: 2.dp on the JVM, 0.dp on Android, iOS and web. These are the library's first platform-specific files: aninternal expect valwith oneactualeach inandroidMain, jvmMain, webMainandiosMain.SignaturePadsignature is kept as a hidden deprecated overload, so apps built against 2.4.0 still link. The Tao backend in Nucleus already delivers sub-pixel positions with its own 1 dp deadband, so a 2.dp filter barely changes anything there.
Open question: web defaults to 0.dp. If Compose web gets mouse positions in whole CSS pixels, it has the same problem and should probably use 2.dp too.
Testing
MinPointDistanceTestsends a slow drag of 1-pixel steps. It checks that 2.dp gives fewer than half as many curves as 0.dp, that the distance scales with density, and that the stroke still ends where the pointer lifted. Removing the filter, or the step that draws the last skipped move, each makes the matching tests fail.shortMovesAcrossTheEdge_endTheStrokeThereleaves the pad and comes back in moves under 2.dp, and fails without the edge rule.:signaturepad:allTests(JVM, JS, Wasm),:signaturepad:build,:demo:assembleand:androidDemo:assembleDebugpass, including the existing tests, which now run with the 2.dp default. iOS tests run in CI.🤖 Generated with Claude Code
Summary by CodeRabbit
minPointDistanceoption to control spacing between drawn points. It defaults to 2.dp on desktop and 0.dp on other platforms.
