Summary

  • Adds the official Firebase skills that match services this app actually uses, installed to .agents/skills/ (the skills-CLI / app-foundations canonical home for external skills) and pinned in skills-lock.json
  • Kept: firebase-firestore, firestore-rules-creation, firebase-security-rules-auditor — the dive-log feature reads Firestore (lib/firestore/) and its collections sit behind console-managed security rules
  • firebase-basics and firebase-auth-basics are intentionally not duplicated here — the shared platform rollout (feat(agent): Next.js agent-docs index + next-dev-loop skill (issue #144 pilot) #249) already installs them to .agents/skills/, and two copies of one skill trip the app-foundations installer's DUPLICATE check
  • Dropped from the original blanket install as not applicable to this web app: AI Logic, App Hosting (deploys go to Vercel), Crashlytics, Data Connect, Remote Config, Hosting, extension-to-functions, Xcode
  • check-doc-links now excludes vendored skill dirs (.agents/, .devin/) — upstream-managed markdown legitimately references paths that don't exist in this repo (identical change to feat(agent): Next.js agent-docs index + next-dev-loop skill (issue #144 pilot) #249, merges cleanly either order)
  • No Firebase configuration changed: no firebase.json, .firebaserc, security rules, hosting targets, or auth providers touched. No dependencies added, no credentials introduced

Test plan

  • node scripts/check-doc-links.mjs — passes (vendored skill markdown excluded)
  • node scripts/check-repo-hygiene.mjs / check-env-vars.mjs — pass
  • skills-lock.json lists exactly the 3 installed skills; every .agents/skills/*/SKILL.md has valid frontmatter with matching name
  • Simulated merge after feat(agent): Next.js agent-docs index + next-dev-loop skill (issue #144 pilot) #249: only skills-lock.json conflicts (add/add), resolves as the union of both files (10 entries); no duplicate skill names across .agents/ and .devin/
  • install-skills.mjs --check (app-foundations) passes clean on the merged tree

Merge order

Merge after #249. The manifest additions for the three kept skills are proposed separately in spizeck/app-foundations (dependency: merge manifest PR last, since --check would otherwise report the three skills as missing).

Enhancements:

  • Pin the three app-relevant Firebase skills in the skills lockfile and install them under the canonical agent skills directory.
  • Exclude vendored agent skill directories from documentation-link validation.

Tests:

  • Validate documentation links, repository hygiene, environment variables, skill metadata, lockfile consistency, and merged skill installation.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Documentation
    • Added practical guidance for setting up and using Firestore across web, mobile, Flutter, and Python, with separate instructions for Standard and Enterprise editions.
    • Added references for database provisioning, data modeling, indexes, and security rules.
  • New Features
    • Added guidance for auditing Firebase security rules and creating Firestore rules with a focus on access control and validation.

Installed via the supported standalone installer:
npx skills add firebase/agent-skills --agent devin --skill "*" --copy

Skills land in .devin/skills/ (project-scoped, version-controlled) which
Devin discovers natively. No Firebase config, rules, or credentials touched.

Security Architecture Review

Security architecture risk: 🔵 Low · up to 1cbe7

The new database and rules workflows can use a previously selected Firebase project without explicitly confirming it. Existing setup guidance includes that safeguard, but the new workflow does not connect to it. No live configuration, credentials, or permissions are changed by this PR.

Retained concerns

  • Low · security · inferred: The newly registered Firestore workflow can direct database creation and rules deployment without explicitly invoking the existing active-project confirmation prerequisite. If followed independently with stale project context and sufficiently privileged credentials, it can affect an unintended project. Existing setup guidance and user database/location selection are countercontrols; no misdirected execution or new credential authority is demonstrated.
Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — If executed by a credentialed host, the creation and deployment commands can affect the selected Firebase project and configured databases. Effective reach is bounded by that host's credentials and permissions, not necessarily by this application's data alone. Those credentials and any actual remote effects are not established by the supplied evidence.

Security Findings and Attack Paths

  • inferred — The supported concern is conditional target confusion: an independently followed Firestore workflow can consume unintended active-project state and perform privileged writes there. No attacker-controlled path, exploitation, or deployed vulnerability is verified.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — The unchanged foundational skill requires checking login identity and confirming the intended active project. The new Firestore workflow asks for database and location selection, but does not explicitly invoke those foundational prerequisites. These are documented instructions, not demonstrated host-enforced controls.
  • observed — The auditor checks update bypasses, user-controlled authority fields, and identity-level ownership. Its hardcoded-admin-email scoring exception requires verified email and no remaining escalation path. It explicitly excludes login and deployment tasks.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • observed — Enterprise provisioning separates database creation, local configuration, deny-all starter policy, and deployment. It documents no retry reconciliation, compensating cleanup, or post-deployment policy verification. This leaves lifecycle guarantees unspecified; it does not establish that interrupted provisioning exposes data.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed — Explicitly require the existing identity and project-confirmation prerequisite before privileged Firestore operations. Bind creation and deployment to the confirmed project and database, recheck that binding during recovery, and verify the deployed policy after completion.

Check resource membership independently of file-reference membership. If GoogleService-Info.plist already appears in the group but is absent from the selected target’s Resources phase, this branch skips buildPhase.add(file:). The tool reports success, but the app bundle lacks the plist. Find or create the file reference first, then ensure that the selected target’s Resources phase includes it. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Select the app target instead of the first native target. In a project whose first native target is a test target or extension, this choice links the packages and plist to that target. It also attaches the Crashlytics upload phase to that target. Accept a target name or identify the application target, then apply every subsequent target-specific edit to that selection. Firebase’s Crashlytics setup specifies the main build target. (firebase.google.com)

Require ENABLE_DEBUG_DYLIB before adding its input path. When script sandboxing is enabled but ENABLE_DEBUG_DYLIB is not YES, this adds an input file that the build does not produce. Prepare the Frameworks phase before calling addSwiftPackage. XcodeProj’s addSwiftPackage already creates and links products.first. It throws if the target has no Frameworks phase. This code creates that phase only later, at Line 165. On a target without an existing package-dependency list, the subsequent manual loop can also add the first product a second time. Create the phase first and use one consistent path to link each product. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Limit automatic file inclusion to synchronized folders. If an existing project uses ordinary Xcode groups, writing a .swift or resource file to disk does not add it to the target. …kills

Review against the app-foundations skills manifest and actual Firebase
usage in this repo:

- firebase-basics + firebase-auth-basics are manifest-approved externals
for seasaba-web but are already installed in .agents/skills by the
shared platform rollout (PR #249). Keeping second copies in
.devin/skills trips the installer's DUPLICATE check, so they are
removed here; .agents remains their canonical home.
- Kept (relocated to .agents/skills, the conventional external-skill
  home): firebase-firestore, firestore-rules-creation, and
firebase-security-rules-auditor. The dive-log feature reads Firestore
(lib/firestore/) and its collections sit behind console-managed
security rules, so SDK + rules skills are the relevant set.
- Dropped as not-applicable to this web app: firebase-ai-logic-basics,
  firebase-app-hosting-basics (deploys go to Vercel),
  firebase-crashlytics, firebase-data-connect,
  firebase-remote-config-basics, firebase-hosting-basics,
  extension-to-functions-codebase, xcode-project-setup.

Also excludes vendored skill dirs (.agents/, .devin/) from
check-doc-links — same change as #249 — since upstream-managed
markdown legitimately references paths that do not exist in this repo.

Reworked for review-readiness ahead of final review:

What changed in 88eb363:

  • Removed firebase-basics + firebase-auth-basics from .devin/skills/ — byte-identical duplicates of the .agents/skills/ copies feat(agent): Next.js agent-docs index + next-dev-loop skill (issue #144 pilot) #249 installs (same computedHash in both lockfiles). The app-foundations installer flags one skill in two dirs as DUPLICATE; .agents/skills is the canonical external-skill home.
  • Relocated the three kept skills to .agents/skills/ for consistency with the platform architecture.
  • Dropped the eight skills the manifest marks not-applicable/optional for this repo (AI Logic, App Hosting, Crashlytics, Data Connect, Remote Config, Hosting, extension-to-functions, Xcode).
  • Applied the same .agents/+.devin/ exclusion to check-doc-links as feat(agent): Next.js agent-docs index + next-dev-loop skill (issue #144 pilot) #249 — fixes the 13 broken-reference failures on the previous run; identical hunk merges cleanly regardless of order.

Net diff now: 3 skills in .agents/skills/ + skills-lock.json (3 entries) + the doc-links exclusion.

On the earlier CodeRabbit findings: all were on vendored upstream content (firebase/agent-skills), which is maintained upstream and byte-pinned by skills-lock.json. Most of the flagged files are removed by this scoping; remaining findings are addressed by the vendored-content policy rather than patched locally. check-doc-links excludes these dirs for the same reason.

Merge order: after #249. Post-merge, skills-lock.json resolves as the union of both files (10 entries) — verified via test merge. Manifest update for the three kept skills: spizeck/app-foundations#157 (merge last).

Merged latest master (includes #249) into this branch — 1cbe728.

Conflict resolution: skills-lock.json was the only conflict (add/add). Resolved as the union: all 7 externals from #249 plus the 3 Firestore skills from this PR — exactly 10 entries, upstream source refs and pinned computedHash values preserved, schema unchanged.

Post-merge verification:

  • .agents/skills/ (10) ↔ skills-lock.json (10) — consistent; .devin/skills/ (6 org skills) untouched; zero duplicate skill names across the two dirs
  • agent-skills-state.json file hashes all match on disk
  • install-skills.mjs --check (app-foundations main) — clean
  • check:docs, check:env, check:hygiene — pass; lint clean; typecheck clean (fresh npm ci in a clean worktree)
  • skills-lock.json committed with LF endings per .gitattributes
