fix(inflow-lab): un-retire /tools/inflow-lab as of efddbdaf - #3795
fix(copy): real-data follow-up to #3471 (v3) #3544 / 627cd9d9 (Oct 24) replaced frontend/src/app/tools/inflow-lab/page.tsx with unconditional notFound() and deleted the client components. Same hard stubs remain on /tools/inflow-lab-dashboard-preview, /dashboard/inflow-lab, and the docs connector page (out of scope here).
The last real tools page was gated with isExperimentalToolEnabled("inflow-lab") at efddbdaf (git show efddbdaf:frontend/src/app/tools/inflow-lab/page.tsx).
frontend/src/lib/inflow-error.ts (+ its small unit test), required by the client
No proxy allowlist changes. No /demo redirect (/demo was removed in #3543, not #3544). No payment, login/auth, or compliance edits.
Scenarios finding (report only; no new route)
Frontend proxy:frontend/src/app/api/inflow-lab/[...path]/route.ts allowlists health, status, records, lineage, run, reset, fixture, export. git log -S scenarios on that proxy path shows no historical scenarios allowlist entry (string hits elsewhere are UI/workbench copy, not a proxy route).
inflow-lab service:GET /api/scenarios exists in regengine/inflow-lab (app/routers/scenarios.py). That is the service route; this PR does not proxy it.
Prod flag (name only)
After deploy, enable the per-tool experimental flag so the restored gate passes: NEXT_PUBLIC_ENABLED_EXPERIMENTAL_TOOLS (include inflow-lab). The existing proxy still also needs its own server-only enablement for live simulator calls (REGENGINE_ENABLE_INFLOW_LAB_PROXY, INFLOW_LAB_SERVICE_URL, and the Basic auth username/password names); this PR does not change that gate.

After C.Lee yes + deploy + flag: /tools/inflow-lab renders the workbench instead of Not Found
Note
Medium Risk
Large new experimental UI and expanded proxy allowlist (read-only scenarios); simulator and workbench calls still depend on session, CSRF, and deployment flags rather than production ingestion paths.
Overview Un-retires /tools/inflow-lab by replacing the unconditional notFound() stub with the prior experimental gate (isExperimentalToolEnabled("inflow-lab")) and shipping the full Inflow Lab workbench (InflowLabClient): mock simulator controls (fixture load, pipeline run/reset, lineage, test export previews), CSV Data feeder (sandbox evaluate + workbench readiness/commit-gate when signed in), tabbed UX for standalone vs dashboard modes, and guided tutorials/banners.
Adds inflowErrorMessage so proxy failures (especially disabled-route 404s and session hints) read clearly in the UI, plus unit tests.
Extends the Inflow Lab API proxy to allow GETscenarios on both /scenarios and /api/scenarios (maps short path upstream), treats scenarios as an optional read probe with offline empty-list fallback, and rejects disallowed methods with INVALID_PATH after session check—covered by new proxy tests.
Smaller fixes: shared Tutorial scroll effect keyed on stable step target (avoids re-scroll when steps array is rebuilt), OG image/metadata for the tools page, and e2e tour label “Run the walkthrough”.
Reviewed by Cursor Bugbot for commit 0994920. Bugbot is set up for automated code reviews on this repo. Configure here.
Root cause (not #3676): #3544 (627cd9d) replaced /tools/inflow-lab with
unconditional notFound() and deleted the client. Prod /api/inflow-lab/*
still 404s when REGENGINE_ENABLE_INFLOW_LAB_PROXY is unset, and the proxy
allowlist never included the inflow-lab service GET /api/scenarios route.
Restore the gated InflowLabClient page, allow /scenarios and
/api/scenarios on the proxy (short path rewrites to /api/scenarios),
redirect /demo to /tools/inflow-lab, and cover both with tests.
DevOps still must set (names only): REGENGINE_ENABLE_INFLOW_LAB_PROXY,
INFLOW_LAB_SERVICE_URL, INFLOW_LAB_BASIC_AUTH_USERNAME,
INFLOW_LAB_BASIC_AUTH_PASSWORD, NEXT_PUBLIC_ENABLED_EXPERIMENTAL_TOOLS.

It looks like this branch is under active development. To avoid overwhelming you with review comments due to an influx of new commits, CodeRabbit has automatically paused this review. You can configure this behavior by changing the reviews.auto_review.auto_pause_after_reviewed_commits setting.
The Inflow Lab page now includes metadata, an Open Graph image, and feature-flag-based rendering. New dashboard and client tutorials provide walkthrough steps and a banner with per-key dismissal state. The scenarios proxy accepts two GET paths, maps the short path upstream, and returns an empty scenarios array when the optional read is unavailable. Inflow error formatting now appends a nonblank hint to the selected error message. The tutorial measurement effect uses the active step index and target in its dependencies.

Return an offline response for invalid scenario JSON.

Return an offline response for invalid scenario JSON.
If the simulator returns status 200 with an application/json header but an invalid or truncated body, readUpstreamJson returns null. The new scenarios endpoint then returns HTTP 200 with JSON null, rather than a scenario list or the offline payload. Handle JSON parsing failures as an offline response for optional probes.

The Copy gate scans this restored file and finds denylisted fixture data plus sample-demo and sandbox wording. The merge-base baseline has no entry for this file, so these findings increase the gate counts from zero and can block merge. Reword the user-facing text and replace invented fixture data with real data or an explicit empty state. Do not add only a PR baseline; gateCompare rejects new PR baseline entries above the merge-base counts.

Reviewed head 1697a14 (Inflow Lab un-retire + scenarios GET allowlist + safeHref).
Restore: /tools/inflow-lab page.tsx, opengraph-image, inflow-error(+test) match efddbda; client/tutorial restored from that baseline with copy-gate renames (sandbox→CSV check, Valley Fresh→Example Grower Co, sample→fixture) and safeHref. Scope stays on the tools page (no DashboardInflowLab/EvidenceChain restore; out of PR scope).
Proxy: GET-only allowlist for /scenarios and /api/scenarios (short path rewritten to /api/scenarios); POST scenarios rejected (covered by inflow-lab-proxy.test.ts). No payment, auth, or compliance paths touched.
safeHref: allows only http:/https:; javascript:, data:, vbscript:, and file: fall through to "#". Export hrefs are built via servicePath (relative /api/...) then sanitized.
Copy: Copy gate green. EPCIS links labeled "Preview test EPCIS" / "Test EPCIS preview". No FDA claims in UI copy (fda-request is mock export path only). Em/en dashes only in code comments. Prices untouched.
Finding for Lead (non-blocking per "samples labeled"): restores embedded FEEDER_SAMPLE_CSV / mock fixture walkthrough data (Example Grower Co, TLC-FEED-*, leafy_greens fixtures). UI labels Mock environment / fixture / Preview test; still synthetic vs real-data-only standing rule from #3551/#3544.
Required CI green on this head (CI Status Gate, Frontend CI Status Gate, Unit Tests, Copy gate, CodeQL, SAST, etc.). Engine Review Pass was red only for missing engine PASS. CodeRabbit still pending (advisory).

Pass NEXTPUBLICENABLEDEXPERIMENTALTOOLS as a build argument in frontend/Dockerfile.
19-28: Major · Functional Correctness · Quick win
Pass NEXT_PUBLIC_ENABLED_EXPERIMENTAL_TOOLS as a build argument in frontend/Dockerfile.
Next.js inlines NEXT_PUBLIC_* values during next build. frontend/Dockerfile does not set either experimental flag before RUN npm run build. For images built from this Dockerfile, isExperimentalToolEnabled("inflow-lab") evaluates to false. Runtime docker run -e values do not change the result. /tools/inflow-lab keeps rendering FeatureNotEnabled.
Either flag alone enables the page. Use NEXT_PUBLIC_ENABLED_EXPERIMENTAL_TOOLS only. It enables Inflow Lab without enabling NEXT_PUBLIC_ENABLE_EXPERIMENTAL_FEATURES, which exposes every experimental surface.

Add focused regression coverage for the export links.
The repository convention does not require tests for this component because its path is outside the convention's tests and __tests__ scope. The current tests still do not cover this security-sensitive behavior. Test safeHref's rejection and path-preservation branches through a testable boundary, and separately render the CSV and EPCIS links to assert that query values containing &, #, ?, spaces, and non-ASCII traceability lot codes remain correctly encoded single values.
Do not test only safeHref; that would miss regressions at the export-link call sites.

Test handoff preview links do not match the counts they display.
The "Test CSV preview" copy says the file "includes" the counted test-complete lots (InflowLabClient.tsx:2624). The "Preview test CSV" and "Preview test EPCIS" links (lines 1312, 1317, 2627, 2637) carry only preset and date or lot filters to the live-export route. They do not carry the evaluated rows. The downloaded content can therefore differ from the lots shown in the preview. The same mismatch appears in the handoff panels at lines 1852 and 2417.
Either generate the test preview from the evaluated data, or change the copy to state that the link returns live filtered records. In the second case, remove the "Includes N test-complete lots" count from the preview.

Reject save responses for an earlier CSV revision.
If a user saves CSV A and edits it before the request finishes, the save response can restore A’s run ID, readiness, gate, and saved time while CSV B is displayed. A failed save can also restore A’s workbenchError after the edit cleared it.
Capture the input revision when saving and check it before applying either the response or the error. The restored page exposes this path to standalone users.
