Replace the trailing-backslash regex with a linear backward scan.
The pattern /(?:%5C|\\)+$/i has no start anchor. When a path contains a long run of %5C sequences followed by a non-matching character, the engine retries from each starting position and rescans the rest of the run. Matching cost therefore grows quadratically with path length. stripTrailingBackslashes runs for every GET and HEAD request before the CSRF and authentication checks, so an unauthenticated client can repeat such requests. Each scan blocks the thread that runs it. A local benchmark of this pattern took about 30 ms for 4,096 %5C sequences. Time grew about 55 times when the input grew 8 times. Vercel's 14 KB URL limit still permits thousands of sequences.
Replace the regex with a scan from the end of the pathname. Remove TRAILING_BACKSLASHES once no other code references it:
Replace the regex with a backward scan
-const TRAILING_BACKSLASHES = /(?:%5C|\\)+$/i;
export function stripTrailingBackslashes(pathname: string): string | null {
- if (!TRAILING_BACKSLASHES.test(pathname)) return null;- return pathname.replace(TRAILING_BACKSLASHES, '') || '/';+ let end = pathname.length;+ for (;;) {+ if (end >= 1 && pathname[end - 1] === '\\') {+ end -= 1;+ } else if (end >= 3 && pathname.slice(end - 3, end).toUpperCase() === '%5C') {+ end -= 3;+ } else {+ break;+ }+ }+ if (end === pathname.length) return null;+ return pathname.slice(0, end) || '/';
}

Review comment at @frontend/src/proxy.ts at line 491:
Update stripTrailingBackslashes to scan backward over trailing literal
backslashes and case-insensitive %5C sequences, avoiding repeated regex rescans.
Preserve its null result when nothing is stripped and its root-path fallback
when stripping empties the pathname; remove TRAILING_BACKSLASHES once it is no
longer referenced.

Skip the trailing-backslash redirect for /api/ paths.
The redirect runs for every GET and HEAD path that reaches the proxy, including /api/ paths. GET /api/v1/fda/trace/LOT%5C redirects to /api/v1/fda/trace/LOT. The trace endpoint uses the final path segment as the TLC, so the redirected request can return a different lot. TLCs must be preserved exactly as received.

Add a regression test that a GET for /api/v1/fda/trace/LOT%5C does not redirect.

Update the GET/HEAD redirect condition around stripTrailingBackslashes to skip
paths beginning with /api/, preserving encoded trailing backslashes in TLCs; add
a regression test confirming GET /api/v1/fda/trace/LOT%5C does not redirect.
