Summary

Prepares the public library package for its first crates.io alpha release, 0.1.0-alpha.1. This is release readiness only: the PR does not upload a crate, create a release tag, or create main.

Key Changes

  1. Includes the Apache-2.0 license in the explicit crate archive and checks that LICENSE, README.md, and the versioned kernel.ptx are present in both local and remote package gates.
  2. Sets the public package and internal workspace dependency to the explicit alpha version, with a synchronized lockfile.
  3. Updates user and release documentation for prerelease installation, the current GPU performance limitation, the first-release main bootstrap, registry-name verification, and the final manual publish procedure.

Commits Included

  • fix(package): include Apache license in crate archive
  • chore(release): prepare 0.1.0-alpha.1 version
  • ci(package): assert required release artifacts
  • docs(release): define first alpha publication contract
  • style(package): normalize license file ending

Verification

  • just ci: formatting, all-feature checks, strict Clippy, 43 regular library tests, five bench tests, two doctests, rustdoc, package verification, and cargo-deny. Seven hardware-only GPU tests remain ignored in portable CI.
  • cargo test --workspace --no-default-features --locked.
  • cargo +1.88.0 check -p vrp-gpu --all-features --locked.
  • just kernel-ci.
  • Clean-tree cargo package -p vrp-gpu --list --locked includes the expected 15 files, including the license, README, and PTX.
  • cargo publish -p vrp-gpu --locked --dry-run completed without uploading.
  • Registry lookup from outside the workspace found no package with the exact name vrp-gpu at review time; this must be repeated immediately before publication.
  • git diff --check passed; all commits have valid GPG signatures and DCO trailers.

Scope and release hold

No Rust algorithm, CUDA source, or PTX changes. No fresh hardware run was possible in this environment; the existing RTX 5060 Ti validation record is linked from the README and is not represented as a new test. Actual publication remains a separate, explicit maintainer action after merge, release-day changelog dating, final archive review, and registry/authentication checks.
