Walkthrough
The discovery module adds an Agent Buddy UDP probe and reply parser. The parser validates replies and normalizes device IDs. The probe collects valid replies, keeps the latest reply per device ID, and sorts results. Tests cover parsing, UDP probing, and socket errors.

Summary
Reply contract and parsing tinyagentos/orb/discovery.py, tests/orb/test_discovery.py
Adds the UDP port and probe payload. The parser validates required reply fields and lowercases valid device IDs. Tests cover valid replies and rejection of invalid replies.
UDP probing and reply collection tinyagentos/orb/discovery.py, tests/orb/test_discovery.py, changelog.d/tsk-4hzmaf-orb-agent-buddy-probe.md
Adds broadcast or supplied-address probing, reply collection, deduplication, sorting, and socket error handling. Loopback tests cover probe transmission, replies, timeouts, and socket-creation errors. The changelog describes the added discovery functions and target devices.
No actionable issue is established that would prevent merging after normal checks. Callers needing per-interface broadcast should supply the appropriate addresses.

…k-4hzmaf)
probe_agent_buddy hands every datagram of up to 2048 bytes from any LAN host
to parse_agent_buddy_reply. A reply of about 2000 "[" characters nests past
the default recursion limit; on python 3.11 json.loads raises RecursionError,
which is not a ValueError, so it escaped the except clause, propagated out of
probe_agent_buddy and aborted the probe, losing the valid replies already
collected (CodeRabbit Minor 4367890737, measured). Python 3.12 and 3.13 raise
JSONDecodeError for the same bytes and were never affected, which is why the
3.12/3.13 CI shards cannot see it.
Fix: add RecursionError to the existing except tuple, nothing wider. Tests: a
2000 "[" datagram returns None (red on 3.11 only), and a monkeypatched
json.loads raising RecursionError returns None (red on every interpreter, so
the shards guard the clause).
RED-FIRST, python 3.11.15, this test file against the lane head 311d650:
```
FAILED tests/orb/test_discovery.py::test_parse_agent_buddy_reply_deeply_nested_returns_none
FAILED tests/orb/test_discovery.py::test_parse_agent_buddy_reply_recursion_error_returns_none
2 failed, 33 deselected in 0.27s
```
RED-FIRST, python 3.13.5, same file against 311d650 (the 3.11-only test passes here):
```
FAILED tests/orb/test_discovery.py::test_parse_agent_buddy_reply_recursion_error_returns_none
1 failed, 1 passed, 33 deselected in 0.35s
```
GREEN with the fix: 35 passed on python 3.11.15 and 35 passed on python 3.13.5.
Docs-Reviewed: changelog.d/tsk-4hzmaf-orb-agent-buddy-probe.md, added by 7d62ede in this PR, already covers parse_agent_buddy_reply; this commit changes which decode errors it swallows, no further doc change.
Card body: still unread. tsk-4hzmaf lives on a board my token cannot read (404 on prj-b6ao4t, grant 1a402290 pending), and the board owner seat is blocked on a dialog. Reviewed instead against the parent spec (taosc audits/esp32-agent-controller/SPEC-orb-companion.md s1: discovery.py gains "the Agent Buddy UDP 4666 probe"; s5 R3 row: UDP 4666 discovery) and against upstream Agent Buddy itself.
Upstream parity, verified against DanWahlin/agent-buddy b5d02e8 daemon/src/wifi-config.ts (the commit the audit read): probe string ESP32_AGENT_COMPANION_DISCOVER_V1, port 4666, default timeout 1200 ms, reply fields service == "esp32-agent-companion", protocol == 1, deviceId 16 hex, hostname string, port integer 1..65535, boot integer >= 0, dedupe by deviceId. The lane's parse_agent_buddy_reply and probe_agent_buddy match field for field, and the bool-is-not-int checks are stricter than upstream in the right direction.
Red-first: the harness-measured fence in the PR body names 22 tests that exist in this diff (ImportError on base 74dd1d6, 33 passed on head). True.
Findings:
Edge case, must-fix, now fixed: RecursionError out of json.loads on python 3.11 escaped the except clause and aborted the probe (CodeRabbit Minor 4367890737). Measured real on 3.11.15 only. Lead-finish commit 913ce43 adds RecursionError to the tuple plus two tests, with 3.11 and 3.13 red fences in the commit body. 35 passed on both interpreters.
Deferrable, not blocking: the default addresses=["255.255.255.255"] is the limited broadcast only, where upstream computes one broadcast address per interface (broadcastAddresses()). Callers can pass addresses, so v1 is usable; the taOS-side caller card (spec s3) should pass per-interface addresses or this grows a helper. Not carded by me; noting it for whoever cuts the s3 caller card.
Nits only: imports inside the function bodies, missing trailing newlines (in-house review already listed them).
Merge: needs-jay stays (Orb path). Waiting for a CodeRabbit artefact on 913ce43 and green checks, then the ask goes to Jay.
