Closing in favour of a direct upgrade, opened as a replacement.

This could not land: the lockfile went stale against master twice while other merges moved underneath it, and both runs failed at npm ci with Missing: esbuild@0.28.2 from lock file rather than on anything to do with vitest. A third rebase would have raced the same way.

Verified locally at 4.1.11: 99 tests pass unchanged, tsc clean, lint clean, build exports.
