What

One Node version everywhere: the production images were already on node:26-bookworm-slim, and now CI, engines and the types are too.

  • .nvmrc = 26; every setup-node step in workflow.yml reads node-version-file: .nvmrc (docker.yml has no Node step).
  • engines.node >=26 in package.json and prisma/package.json (lockfiles updated).
  • @types/node 24 → 26. It types the Worker 'error' event as unknown, so DiffWorkerPool casts it: an instanceof check would rewrap Node's cross-realm errors under Jest. Runtime behaviour is unchanged.
  • Dependabot ignores @types/node and node image majors, as in the frontend, so the major moves by hand with .nvmrc.
  • AGENTS.md and README.md name Node 26.

prisma/Dockerfile already uses node:26-bookworm-slim. dinov2/ is Python and needs nothing.

Checked on Node 26.13.0

npm run typecheck, npm run lint, npm run format:check and npm run test:cov all pass (88 suites, 1738 tests, coverage thresholds met). tsc -p prisma passes too. The e2e and migration jobs run in CI only.

Release notes

Node 26 is the supported runtime; contributors need Node 26 locally.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Documentation
    • Setup instructions and project requirements now specify Node.js 26 or newer.
  • Chores
    • Automated checks now use the Node.js version specified by the project.
    • Major-version updates for Node.js and its type definitions are excluded from automatic update requests.

CI reads the Node version from .nvmrc (26), matching the production
images. engines.node is >=26 for the api and the migration package,
and @types/node follows the runtime to 26. It types the Worker 'error'
event as unknown; the pool casts it instead of an instanceof check,
which would rewrap Node's cross-realm errors under Jest.
Dependabot leaves the Node and @types/node majors alone, as in the
frontend, so they move with .nvmrc by hand.

Walkthrough

The project now specifies Node.js 26 for local setup, package engines, and CI. Dependabot ignores major updates for @types/node and the node image. The worker error handler casts its error argument to Error before replacement.

Normalize the Worker error before calling replace.

The Worker 'error' event accepts an any payload, but the cast does not convert that payload. After the retry limit, replace can reject pool.run() with a non-Error value. Normalize this boundary like drainQueueInline, and add a test that emits a non-Error Worker error through the final crash path.

Review comment at @src/compare/diff-worker-pool.ts at line 140:
Normalize the Worker error-event payload before passing it to replace in the
worker crash handler, converting non-Error values into an Error so the final
retry failure rejects pool.run() with an Error. Add a test that emits a
non-Error payload through the final crash path, following the normalization
behavior in drainQueueInline.
