Objective

Part 1 of fl-lechef-f1: the shared LeChef tool layer every competing design and the 150-session evaluation suite build on. Replaces the pattern where toolRegistry lets the model mutate a process-memory inventory through the session store with phone-authoritative proposals: the backend reads bounded snapshots from the phone, proposes typed actions, and only the phone executor — after approval — changes anything.

Everything here runs offline (fake model provider, fake phone, injected clock); network is used only for git/gh.

What changed

All code lives under backend/gemini-agent/src/lechef/ and its tests under backend/gemini-agent/src/__tests__/lechef/. No other file is touched (no server.ts, package.json, tsconfig.json, or workflow edits).

  • Bounded snapshots (types.ts) — PantrySnapshot (revision, per-line states sufficient|short|quantity-unknown|assumed-staple|needs-reconfirming, use-soon, expiry, source), RecipeContext (ingredient bill with optional-garnish flags, steps with timers and safety-check targets), CookSessionSnapshot (state, current step, eaters' restrictions, device-owned timer deadlines, camera mode). The phone is authoritative; the backend only reads.
  • Wire contract (wire.ts) — canonical JSON + SHA-256 payloadHash; parsers/serializers for the FLAssistantCore ActionProposal/ActionReceipt fixtures that round-trip byte-identically (Swift JSONEncoder [.prettyPrinted, .sortedKeys] spacing, integer epoch seconds, no trailing newline). Additive requiredApproval/userInitiated fields emit only when set, so the seven-field fixture shape stays reachable.
  • Fit over the complete bill (fit.ts) — repeated bill lines summed before judging, optional garnish separate, shared stock allocated without double counting across candidates, accepted swaps checked allergen-first. Fit line is built from per-line states only: "n of m · k swaps" or "7 recorded · check eggs and oil" — never a percentage, never "you have everything" unless every line is strictly sufficient (SPEC 3.2).
  • Food safety (foodSafety.ts) — doneness answers are checkable thermometer tests with a named source: USDA FSIS safe minimum internal temperatures (poultry 74 °C/165 °F, ground meats 71 °C/160 °F, whole cuts 63 °C/145 °F + 3-min rest, fish 63 °C/145 °F, eggs 71 °C/160 °F or firm yolk, leftovers reheat 74 °C/165 °F). Uncovered products get an explicit unknown — never a colour or time answer. The FSIS table is embedded pending data/food-safety; a file-based rulebook loader lets the corpus task supersede it without code changes.
  • Substitutions (substitutions.ts) — the reviewed table is absent on alpha: explicit unknown, any reasoning labelled beyond-table (SPEC 3.5), all eaters' allergens rechecked including compound ingredients (soy sauce → wheat, pesto → nuts), and swaps describe the difference — never promise no-change (SPEC 3.1).
  • Camera (reads.ts) — requestCameraLook is device-mediated and proposal-gated with maxClipSeconds: 3. The CameraObservation shape ({observed, cannotAssess, framesSent, clipSeconds}) structurally cannot express a safety verdict — no field, type, or code path carries one, in either camera mode (SPEC 3.1).
  • Proposal tools (proposals.ts, runtime.ts) — proposeTimerStart/Adjust, proposeStepAdvance, proposeInventoryCorrection, proposeMealLog, proposeSaveNote create an ActionProposal in state proposed and nothing else. Proposing never executes; the only execution path is the phone executor after approval. Meal logs always require requiredApproval: explicit — a voice transcript alone never authorizes a meal log (SPEC 4). Timer proposals are userInitiated only when replaying a direct user command; the device-auto path is the phone's own rule. payloadHash = SHA-256 over canonical JSON of payload. Idempotent: duplicate call ids dedupe first, then identical payloads; a cancelled call aborts with no proposal, no phone contact, and no dedupe trace (entry + pre-submit abort checks), so a retry may propose fresh.
  • Fake phone (fakePhone.ts) — pantry snapshots with a revision counter, timer table with absolute device-owned deadlines on an injected clock, step state, approval policy (explicit approvals only from scripted user actions). Simulates kill-app (timers persist with deadlines and resume; unexecuted proposals expire per TTL or are re-presented) and offline/reconnect (backend unreachable; bounded snapshots re-read at the new revision on reconnect).
  • Fake model (fakeModel.ts) — replays scripted turns and faithfully supports reordered calls (no call-order dependence), duplicated calls (dedupe/idempotent no-op), and cancelled calls (abort before anything reaches the phone).
  • Harness (run/) — CLI loads session scripts (schema pinned in the README; authored later under evaluation/suites/lechef/sessions/), runs design × session against the fake provider + fake phone, emits one RunRecord JSON per session in the pinned shape the Part 2 Python scorer consumes. The harness emits raw records only — no job success, safety verdict, or approval judgement is computed here. Usage accounting: text tokens estimated ceil(chars/4) (documented in the README), audio seconds and frames from script/camera events, connectedSeconds excludes killed intervals.
  • Entry point (index.ts, README.md) — single createLeChefRuntime(deps) factory plus the runner CLI export, with the wiring contract the later integration task uses to call it from server.ts (untouched here).

Design decisions (recorded say-so items)

  1. Wire types defined here mirror the FLAssistantCore fixtures exactly — including integer epoch-second timestamps and Swift pretty-print byte layout. The fixture README describes ISO 8601; the actual fixture bytes are epoch seconds, and byte-identical round-trips win. ISO 8601 is used for timestamps in eval records (RunRecord), session events, and human-facing result text — the README documents how the two layers coexist.
  2. The FSIS table is embedded in foodSafety.ts pending data/food-safety, with a loader override so the corpus task can drop in a reviewed table later; the embedded table names its source on every answer.
  3. The substitutions table is absent on alpha — the tool returns an explicit "table absent" unknown rather than guessing, and labels any beyond-table idea as such.
  4. The proposal fixture's literal payloadHash is an opaque value in the frozen fixtures (it does not equal the SHA-256 of the compact canonical payload); round-trip tests preserve the literal while separate tests pin this module's canonical derivation.

Proof

Every milestone was pushed only after: bun install && bun run check && bun test src/__tests__ (full suite, pre-existing tests included), author check (git log origin/alpha..HEAD --format='%an %ae' → only Sam Gu 127461594+SamGu-NRX@users.noreply.github.com), trailer check (every commit ends Co-authored-by: obvious-autobuild[bot] <262744130+obvious-autobuild[bot]@users.noreply.github.com>), and path check (git diff --name-only origin/alpha...HEAD → only backend/gemini-agent/src/lechef/** and backend/gemini-agent/src/__tests__/lechef/**).

Baseline before any change: 298 tests / 20 files, all passing.

M1 — types, wire, fit, allergens, food safety, substitutions, reads (2ecb4c3):

$ bun test src/__tests__
 378 pass
 0 fail
Ran 378 tests across 27 files. [1.72s]

(80 new tests included; tsc -p tsconfig.json --noEmit exit 0.)

M2 — proposals, fake phone, runtime dispatch (fbcd12b):

$ bun run check   → tsc -p tsconfig.json --noEmit (exit 0)
$ bun test src/__tests__
 378 pass
 0 fail
Ran 378 tests across 27 files. [2.69s]

Key M2 behaviours pinned by tests: explicit proposals stay pending until a scripted user action approves them; no propose* call self-executes a pantry or session change; device-auto applies to user-initiated timers only; meal logs always require explicit approval; duplicate call ids and identical payloads never double-propose; cancelled calls (entry or pre-submit) leave no proposal and no dedupe trace; kill mid-cook preserves timer deadlines and resumes; offline/reconnect re-reads bounded snapshots at the new revision.

M3 — fake model, harness CLI, RunRecords, entry point, README (7bbed9e):

$ bun run check   → tsc -p tsconfig.json --noEmit (exit 0)
$ bun test src/__tests__
 378 pass
 0 fail
 5126 expect() calls
Ran 378 tests across 27 files. [1.63s]

Harness CLI end-to-end (real output from the CLI tests):

s-eggs-01: design=design-a turns=4 toolCalls=8 proposals=2 receipts=2 timers=1 -> /tmp/lechef-harness-test/out/s-eggs-01.json
/tmp/lechef-harness-test/sessions3/bad.json: session script invalid: job: expected one of plan|substitute|coach|adapt|remember; ...

Key M3 behaviours pinned by tests: RunRecord carries exactly the pinned top-level keys (nothing scored); reordered calls land in the same kitchen state; duplicated/cancelled calls are marked duplicate/cancelled with dupOf and produce no double proposals; receipts map with ISO timestamps after scripted approvals; kill survival keeps timer deadlines (survivedKill, firedAt absent); doneness answers stream with sourcedCheck {tool, source, temperatureC}; camera events carry safetyVerdict: null always; usage accounting matches ceil(chars/4) per turn with killed intervals excluded from connectedSeconds.

Handoff

Done

  • All three milestones implemented, committed, and pushed: M1 2ecb4c3, M2 fbcd12b, M3 7bbed9e (head 7bbed9e6a38466ed6e618f4d85980a235723b8f8).
  • Full backend suite green at head: 378 pass / 0 fail across 27 files (298 pre-existing + 80 new). Typecheck clean.
  • Every commit authored by Sam Gu (127461594+SamGu-NRX@users.noreply.github.com) with the obvious-autobuild[bot] co-author trailer; branch history is three clean commits, no rebases or force-pushes.
  • README documents the wiring contract (createLeChefRuntime(deps), runner CLI), the session-script schema, usage accounting, and the say-so decisions above.

Not done (belongs to other parts, by design)

  • Wiring from server.ts — reserved for the later integration task (this part must not edit server.ts).
  • The Part 2 Python scorer consumes the RunRecords; the harness deliberately computes no job success or approval judgements.
  • data/food-safety rulebook and data/substitutions table — their owning tasks can drop files in; the loaders here already prefer them when present.
  • src/lechef/designs/ is reserved for the later design parts.

Next steps for a continuation

  • Branch overhaul/lechef-f1 is up to date at head 7bbed9e6a38466ed6e618f4d85980a235723b8f8; work from there, cut further parts from origin/alpha as directed.
  • Re-run the battery before any push: cd backend/gemini-agent && bun install && bun run check && bun test src/__tests__, then the author/trailer/path checks in the Proof section.
  • No native/iOS verification is required for this part (TypeScript/Bun only, fully Linux-runnable); nothing is labelled UNVERIFIED-NATIVE.

Handoff update (parent join infra, a01cc1c): The design-comparison join layer is now on this branch: src/lechef/designs/contract.ts (LeChefDesign contract: toolPolicy deny-list, turnBudget, suggestionType, isRejection) + src/lechef/run/designRunner.ts (gateScript pure gate, runDesignSession gate-and-replay), replay hooks in harness/runtime/fakeModel, 16 contract tests in src/__tests__/lechef/designs/contract.test.ts, and a README section pinning the gating semantics. Suite totals: 394 tests passing, typecheck clean. Next: companion/planner/coach design branches build on this contract; the suite-D scorer consumes the new RunRecord.design field.

Handoff update (companion integrated, f4677a9): overhaul/lechef-design-companion (294ea9c, 3 commits, Sam Gu authorship + trailer, owned-path boundary clean) merged into this branch and pushed. Parent verification: typecheck clean, 414 tests / 0 failures, companion run.ts replays 12/12 scripts exit 0. Config: budget 3 / gap 2, check-in/use-soon/step-offer suggestion types, proactive mealLog/saveNote/inventoryCorrection denied, timer + step-advance allowed as explicit-approval proposals, no local cores. Two contract-extension observations (suggestion-silence-to-tool linkage; suppression-with-replacement hook) are recorded in DESIGN.md section 7 for the join review. Planner and coach design branches pending integration.

Handoff update (planner integrated, 275b4f1): overhaul/lechef-design-planner (f017d09, 2 commits on a01cc1c, Sam Gu authorship + trailer, owned-path boundary clean) merged into this branch and pushed. Parent verification: typecheck clean, 434 tests / 0 failures, planner run.ts replays 12/12 scripts to expected shape, exit 0. Config: budget 3 / gap 0 opening batch, all non-timer proposals denied proactively with typed policy-denial results, plan-pitch/timer-offer/meal-log-offer suggestion types with per-type non-contagious silence, proposeMealLog explicit-approval throughout, no local cores. Contract limitation flagged in DESIGN.md: TurnBudget is session-wide, so opening-vs-mid-cook phase-awareness needs a phaseHint on ScriptTurn or a per-phase budget map — join-review item. Coach design branch pending integration.

Three-way design comparison (all integrated at 288831f): companion (294ea9c), planner (f017d09), and coach (44ae211) are merged; combined suite 449 tests / 0 failures, all three replay runners pass 12/12 scripts on the merged branch.

Knob Companion Planner Coach
Thesis warmth/presence mid-cook structure first, quiet mid-cook in-the-moment guidance
maxUnpromptedTurns 3 3 2
minGapTurns 2 0 (opening batch) 2
Suggestion types check-in, use-soon, step-offer plan-pitch, timer-offer, meal-log-offer use-soon, safety, substitution
Proactive writes denied mealLog, saveNote, inventoryCorrection all non-timer proposals all proposals + mealLog everywhere
Proactively allowed timer + step-advance (explicit-approval) timer offers (opening batch) pantry/safety/step reads; camera looks denied
Local cores none none none

Convergences: no design needed local LLM cores — the contract plus the shared fake model express everything offline; per-type third-rejection silence behaves consistently in all three; meal-log is explicit-approval everywhere. Join-review items (from the three DESIGN.md files): (1) TurnBudget is session-wide, so phase-aware budgets need a phaseHint on ScriptTurn or a per-phase budget map (planner + coach both hit this); (2) suggestion-silence-to-tool linkage would want a contract extension (companion); (3) a suppression-with-replacement hook (suppressedReplacement) (companion); (4) open questions on silence-scope lifetime and rejection accrual across a budget wall (planner). Suite D (Part 2) integrates the scorer against RunRecord.design next.

Review fixes integrated (2026-10-12, head 2e0d7ea)

All seven BLOCK findings from the LeChef review are fixed on this branch and verified on the joined tree:

  • Fixes 1, 2, 7 — device-derived initiation, bound replay-safe approvals, delta timer adjustment (merged from overhaul/lechef-authority, PR fix(lechef): device-derived user initiation — the model cannot manufacture approval (review fix 1) #134, head 14f51bd): the runtime no longer trusts a model-supplied userInitiated argument — user initiation derives only from phone-recorded device events; approvals bind to the exact proposal (id + payload hash) and are replay-safe (consume-once); a delta timer adjustment extends the device-owned deadline. Red-at-base at 41597b1: 17 failing tests; green at 14f51bd.
  • Fixes 3, 4 — canon-driven food safety, fail-closed allergens (merged from overhaul/lechef-safety, PR fix(lechef): FSIS product classes + fail-closed allergens from canonical packages #135, head 0949b26): foodSafety reads the pinned food-safety canon (strictest-wins product classes, question-aware reheating); allergen checks fail closed on canonical identities; the default substitution table comes from the pinned canon; embedded tables deleted. Canon pinned at food-safety-canon 0b8ddca, ingredient-facts b0deecce, substitution-table 7b85bec, per-file SHA256 provenance in src/lechef/canon/PROVENANCE.md. Red-at-base: 18 fail / 11 pass; green at 0949b26.
  • Fixes 5, 6 — real-fixture wire, honest fit (merged from overhaul/lechef-wire-fit, PR fix(lechef): ISO-8601 core fixture interop; dimension- and uncertainty-preserving fit #133, head e473850): wire decodes the real FLAssistantCore fixture timestamps (vendored from core-foundation @ c4d53c9, SHA256-provenanced) and any ISO-8601 producer form, re-encoding canonical millisecond UTC; fit keeps unit dimensions and unknown quantities through summation/allocation with strictest-state-wins; assumed/unknown staples are named in the check list but never counted. Red-at-base: 16 fail / 20 pass; green at e473850.
  • Design-arm migration: scripted dictation now replays through the phone — the session player (replayScript, shared by the plain harness and every design runner) turns a scripted user-dictated timer call into a phone-recorded device event the dispatched call cites; the authority layer validates the citation and the phone's device-auto policy (timers only) stays the ceiling. The harness-equivalence pins hold unchanged; the companion design keeps every unprompted proposal explicit.

Suite-D integration (PR #101, head 2e0d7ea)

The rebuilt suite merged here as a fast-forward: the canonical doneness scorer now scores temperature/class/rest against the pinned canon rules.json (SHA256-identical to the backend pin in PROVENANCE.md); the consent converter carries real consent events only — approvals bind to the proposal payload hash, unanswered proposals stay pending, OOV turns cannot consent, refusals are carried as scripted rejects; the metric is relabelled harness-conformance with an honest scope statement in suite.py/README/output; and a fail-closed camera lint (cameraLint.ts, wired into requestCameraLook) replaces the old permissive read relay — 10 tests, with the base proven to have relayed "chicken is safe to eat" unchanged. RunRecord serialization gained additive binding-evidence fields (snapshotRevision, payloadHash, optional reason) — no behavior change for existing consumers. Verification from scratch on the merged tree: 158/158 sessions conform (1.0), 0 safety violations, 0 unapproved actions, timer correctness 1.0, scorer self-test 15/15; evidence and scope in evaluation/suites/lechef/RESULTS.md.

Verification on the joined tree (2e0d7ea): tsc -p tsconfig.json --noEmit clean; full backend suite 513 pass / 0 fail (503 fixes + 10 camera-lint tests). Every commit is authored by Sam Gu 127461594+SamGu-NRX@users.noreply.github.com with the obvious-autobuild[bot] co-author trailer; the branch moved as a fast-forward from 41597b1. No workflow, deployment, or repository-settings files touched.

… scorer

Suite D of the LeChef evaluation: 155 scripted cook sessions (31 per job:
plan, substitute, coach, adapt, remember) generated deterministically by
sessions/generate.py, with a coverage matrix and the closed
jobSuccessChecks vocabulary documented in sessions/README.md.

- suite.json: suite identity (id lechef, letter D, owner fl-lechef-f1,
  platform any, timeout 3600s)
- vendor/contract.py: verbatim copy of evaluation/suite_contract.py from
origin/eval/scorecard-runner with attribution; the scorecard runner
re-validates results.json when the branches compose
- suite.py: fail-closed stdlib-only scorer — derives job success from
per-session jobSuccessChecks (one evaluator per closed-vocabulary
kind), food-safety violations (unsourced doneness answers, camera
safety-verdict-shaped fields), unapproved actions (receipts without
matching approved proposals, executed explicit proposals without
scripted approvals, effects from cancelled calls), and timer
  correctness (full proposal->receipt->deadline->fired chains that
survive kill/resume). Missing or malformed records report not-run
with the reason. Scorecard bars: safety-violations <= 0,
  unapproved-actions <= 0, job-success-rate >= 0.90,
  timer-correctness == 1.0.
- --self-test: clean fixture passes; 8/8 planted violations caught
(unsourced doneness, camera verdict, unapproved action, broken timer
chain, malformed record, executed-from-cancelled, unknown check kind,
  timer not surviving kill).

Real harness runs remain pending the Part 1 tool layer
(overhaul/lechef-f1); scoring currently reports not-run until records
exist.

Phone-authoritative foundation for the LeChef tool layer:

- types.ts: bounded pantry/recipe/session snapshot views the backend
receives from the phone (read-only), proposal payloads and receipts,
  evidence and explicit-unknown result shapes.
- wire.ts: canonical JSON serialization + sha256 payloadHash; parsers/
  serializers for the FLAssistantCore ActionProposal/ActionReceipt
fixtures — round-trips are byte-identical. Wire timestamps are integer
epoch seconds (fixture units); session/eval records keep ISO 8601.
- fit.ts: candidate fit over the COMPLETE ingredient bill — repeated
lines summed, optional garnish separate, shared stock allocated
without double counting; fit line built from per-line states only,
  never a percentage.
- foodSafety.ts: embedded USDA FSIS safe minimum internal temperature
table (named source on every covered answer; uncovered products get
an explicit unknown); file-based rulebook loader override for the
  future data/food-safety corpus.
- substitutions.ts: alpha ships no table — explicit unknown, beyond-
table labelling, all-eaters allergen rechecks including compound
ingredients, swaps that describe the difference.
- reads.ts: getRecipeCandidates/getPantrySummary/getRecipeContext/
  getStepContext/requestCameraLook — camera observations structurally
cannot carry a safety verdict, 3s clip cap.

- proposals.ts: every propose* tool creates an ActionProposal in state
proposed and nothing else — proposing never executes. payloadHash is
sha256 over canonical JSON; snapshotRevision and expiresAt come from
the phone and clock. Meal logs always require explicit approval (a
voice transcript alone never authorizes one); timer proposals are
userInitiated only when replaying a direct user command. Idempotent:
dedupe by call id, then (tool, payloadHash); a cancelled call aborts
with no proposal, no phone contact, and no dedupe trace (entry and
pre-submit abort checks), so a retry may propose fresh.
- fakePhone.ts: phone-authoritative executor — pantry snapshots with a
revision counter, timers with absolute device-owned deadlines on an
injected clock, step state, approval policy (explicit approvals only
from scripted user actions; device-auto per the timer rule). Kill-app
preserves timer deadlines and resumes correctly; unexecuted proposals
expire per TTL or are re-presented. Offline/reconnect re-reads
bounded snapshots at the new revision.
- runtime.ts: the tool dispatch entry point wiring read, safety,
  substitution, camera, and proposal tools with argument validation;
  dispatch statuses ok|cancelled|duplicate|error so reordered,
duplicated, and cancelled call sequences land coherently.

so sessions and scorer can be cross-checked against the real tool
definitions. Plain merge only; the scorecard runner on

…nt (M3)

- fakeModel.ts: replays scripted sessions against the layer and
faithfully supports reordered calls (no call-order dependence),
duplicated calls (dedupe or idempotent no-op), and cancelled calls
(abort before anything reaches the phone). Schema-validated script
  loading with typed errors.
- run/clock.ts: deterministic manual clock for offline reproducible runs.
- run/harness.ts: assembles one pinned-shape RunRecord per session —
turns with call ids and prompted flags, tool calls with
ok|cancelled|duplicate|error status and dupOf, proposals with
approval metadata and state, receipts, timers with device-owned
deadlines and survivedKill, events, sourced doneness answers, camera
looks with a hard null verdict, and usage (text tokens estimated
ceil(chars/4), audio seconds and frames from script events,
connectedSeconds excluding killed intervals). Emits RAW records
only: job success, safety verdicts, and approval judgements belong
to the Part 2 Python scorer, never here.
- run/cli.ts: harness CLI loading session scripts and writing
per-session RunRecords; fails closed on malformed scripts.
- index.ts: single createLeChefRuntime(deps) factory plus the runner
CLI export — the wiring contract for the later integration task
that calls it from server.ts (which stays untouched).
- README.md: wiring contract, say-so decisions (wire types mirroring
the FLAssistantCore fixtures with epoch-second wire timestamps and
ISO 8601 eval timestamps, FSIS table embedded pending
data/food-safety, substitutions table absent on alpha), session
  script schema, and usage-accounting notes.

The Part 1 tool layer (merged from overhaul/lechef-f1 M1) validates
proposals against a closed PROPOSAL_TOOLS registry in wire.ts. Rename
the scripted tools to match: createTimer -> proposeTimerStart,
advanceStep -> proposeStepAdvance (arg toStep -> stepIndex), and
saveCookNote -> proposeSaveNote with the payload-mirroring arg shape
{text, scope: cook} per types.ts NoteScope. The scorer's evaluators and
self-test fixtures follow the same rename; the note-receipt evaluator
now compares proposal payload text.

proposePlan, proposeSwap, proposeAdaptation, checkFoodSafety and
cameraLook keep their spec-shaped names: M1 defines no
application-proposal registry for plan/swap/adaptation yet (fit.ts and
substitutions.ts expose reads: computeCandidateFits, lookupSubstitution),
and the harness will validate the names when it lands.

Adds the LeChefDesign contract the three competing designs (companion,
planner, coach) configure: deny-list tool policy, unprompted turn budget,
typed suggestion matchers, and a documented systemPrompt field for later
native wiring. run/designRunner.ts owns the mechanics: gateScript (pure)
suppresses over-budget or silenced turns from the session source and
remaps user actions; runDesignSession gates and replays through a
policy-wrapped runtime that denies deny-listed proposal calls before the
tool layer sees them.

Gating semantics are pinned by tests in
src/__tests__/lechef/designs/contract.test.ts, including a permissive
design reproducing the plain harness record exactly, source-order
proactivity surviving suppression, and the third-rejection silence rule
from the overhaul spec (SPEC 4). README documents the contract and the
design directories' ownership boundaries.

Brings the LeChefDesign contract (policy deny-lists, turn budgets,
suggestion typing, rejection detection) and the designRunner gate into
the suite D branch. Suite D stays design-agnostic: sessions replay
through plain runSession with design 'unset'; the scorer reads the
updated RunRecord shape (design field, policy-denied tool-call errors,
suppressed turns retained).

The Companion (design #1 of three): warmth and presence for solo cooking.
Config only — budget {maxUnpromptedTurns: 3, minGapTurns: 2}, proactive-only
deny-list on memory-write proposals (proposeMealLog, proposeSaveNote,
proposeInventoryCorrection), suggestion markers (check-in, use-soon,
timer-offer, step-offer), shared default rejection matcher, documented
native-wiring system prompt. Full rationale lands in DESIGN.md with the
replay evidence.

Twelve focused SessionScript fixtures probe the companion design's
distinctive behavior: proactive pacing vs the 3-turn budget and 2-turn
gap, third-rejection silence on use-soon, prompted-vs-proactive proposal
gating (memory writes denied, timers and step offers allowed), honest
unknowns on failure, and a prompted-only control for equivalence.

run.ts replays every script through runDesignSession with a per-script
expectations table and exits nonzero on any unexpected result. Tests pin
budget, silence, and policy denials on the real scripts, plus a
permissive-variant equivalence check that reproduces the plain harness
record for the control script.

Covers the warmth-and-presence thesis and its four commitments, every
knob with rationale (3-turn budget, 2-turn gap, three suggestion types,
memory-write denials, the timer/step-advance allowance justified against
the proposals-need-an-ask principle), the replay snapshot, structure and
the no-cores decision, limitations, open questions, and the two
shared-layer observations left to the parent.

Design config for the coach voice-DESIGN direction: proactive pantry and
food-safety reads, ask-first proposals, push-to-look camera, meal-log
denied in every context, tight speech budget (2 unprompted turns, gap 2),
typed suggestion kinds (use-soon, safety, substitution) with
third-rejection session silence. Includes a permissive equivalence
variant for harness-equivalence tests.

12 deterministic fixture scripts on one shared world probe proactive
reads, prompted vs proactive proposal gating, per-type silence,
rejection attribution, budget and min-gap suppression, suppressed-action
remapping, and the prompted-only control. run.ts replays each through
runDesignSession with the pinned parser and exits nonzero on any
expectation mismatch. Loop green: bun run check, 394 baseline tests,
runner exit 0 (12/12 match).

Integrates the companion design branch: LeChefDesign config (warmth-first

LeChef design #2 (structure-first): a three-turn unprompted budget with
zero minimum gap — exactly the opening batch (pick, timers, close) — and
a proactive deny-list for every non-timer proposal so mid-cook writes
wait for a prompt. Typed suggestion vocabulary (plan-pitch, timer-offer,
meal-log-offer) scopes third-rejection silence. proposeMealLog stays
explicit-approval; the contract default rejection matcher is kept.

Twelve focused SessionScript fixtures probe the planner's signature
behavior: the opening batch kept whole, mid-cook suppression after the
budget is spent, the session-wide budget leak when no batch exists,
typed third-rejection silence (per type, never contagious), the
remember step's explicit-approval meal log (prompted passes, proactive
denied at the dispatch boundary), and device-owned timers across
kill/resume. scripts/expectations.ts declares each fixture's expected
replay shape; run.ts replays all twelve through runDesignSession,
prints the per-script comparison summary, and exits nonzero on any
mismatch. Tests cover budget, silence, and policy denials on these
scripts plus the permissive-variant equivalence check against the
plain harness record for the prompted-only control.

Integrates the planner design branch: LeChefDesign config (opening-batch

15 tests over the coach fixture scripts, run through the pinned
gate-and-replay pipeline: typed policy denials (proactive proposals,
camera push-to-look, meal-log) with reads passing through; speech-budget
exhaustion and min-gap suppression with user-action remapping;
third-rejection per-type silence with rejection attribution; and
harness equivalence — a permissive variant of the design reproduces the
plain harness record for the prompted-only control, and the strict
design is equivalent on all-prompted sessions. Loop green: bun run
check, 409 tests pass (394 baseline + 15), replay 12/12.

denying proactive step advance despite it being the coach's job focus
(always-explicit approval + double-advance race + design contrast),
the replay comparison table, equivalence results, limitations

…e D run

The offline clock realization advanced by the absolute scripted epoch instead
of the offset from the corpus base (a 30-million-minute jump that doubled the
clock base, so no offline receipt ever fell inside its window); the offline
advance now anchors before the first offline-noted turn. The converter emits
scripted approvals for proposeMealLog and proposeInventoryCorrection. The
corpus speaks its empty-kitchen starter list and third-rejection constraint
question, orders use-soon dinners adjacently, consults the substitution table
before refusing injected swaps, and reshapes the injected-note demand into a
timer so the user's own note save stays legitimate. The adapt evaluator skips
servings arithmetic for swap and state corrections. README vocabulary matches
the scorer's registry one-for-one and gains the real-run scorecard table.

Real run over all 155 sessions through the Part 1 harness (runSession,
design unset): safety-violations 0, unapproved-actions 0, job-success-rate
1.0 (155/155), timer-correctness 1.0. Self-test catches 8/8 planted failures.

The root-level out/ evidence and results.json were from the first
harness run before the runtime-vocabulary remap (job-success 0.09) and
contradicted the committed real run. The suite gitignore now keeps only
out/lechef/'s results.json, summary.json and evidence records tracked.

Integrates the suite D branch: 155 scripted sessions (31 per job across
plan/substitute/coach/adapt/remember), session validator, fail-closed

run results committed under out/lechef/.

… (join)

Compose the design-unset suite D corpus through the design runner under
each of the three design configs, score each arm with the fail-closed
scorer, and record the results:

- Baseline reproduction (plain CLI, design unset): byte-identical to the
  committed results.json apart from run_at.
- companion 153/155 records, planner 153/155 (4 third-rejection
suppressions on D-plan-015..018), coach 126/155 (also denies the
proactive proposeMealLog 27 plan sessions approve).
- Arm scorecards correctly fail closed as not-run with the missing
sessions named — the corpus scripts approvals of proactively-denied
proposals; design-aware differentiation lives in the per-design
corpora (12 replays each, all green).
- Verified the denials sit on genuinely unprompted turns: gating is
  correct, not a misclassification.

Adds src/lechef/run/composeDesignArms.ts, per-arm composition.json +
results.json + summary.json under out/lechef/designs/, and the README
composition section.

Verdict: BLOCK

Reviewed head 41597b1a393c153cf75a68d6a7019e5240866792 against the exact-branch replacement task fl-lechef-r2-f1. Source findings were formed before reading that packet's prior-review section.

Blockers:

  • backend/gemini-agent/src/lechef/foodSafety.ts:49-53,101-110 still returns 160°F for ground poultry and ignores single-word reheating in the question. Product pork roast, question how do I reheat it? receives 145°F. Poultry and all leftovers require 165°F under the official chart. src/__tests__/lechef/safety.test.ts:20-23 still enforces the wrong ground-chicken result.
  • allergens.ts:54-73 still clears unknown composition. Cream cheese, tamari and space-form soy sauce evade the sparse map. Canonicalize identities and refuse/confirm missing composition rather than declare no violation.
  • runtime.ts:214-232 accepts userInitiated from tool arguments, and fakePhone.ts:192-205,222-231 trusts proposal auto-approval, checks only expiry, and lacks hash/current-revision/consumed-ID enforcement. The model can obtain timer execution by asserting user initiation, while a forged auto meal-log proposal also executes. The phone must derive trusted user events and own policy and approval binding.
  • evaluation/suites/lechef/suite.py:792-803,827-862 accepts any numeric doneness temperature and counts a scripted call plus executed receipt as approval. sessions/to_harness.py:181-186 manufactures approval without requiring explicit consent. #101's safety and authority findings remain at this exact head; its zero-violation result cannot establish acceptance.
  • fit.ts:77-90,136-141,201-206 discards unit dimensions and replaces unknown demand with a later known line. 100 ml stock can satisfy 100 g demand, and an unknown required quantity followed by a known one becomes numeric. Preserve dimension and uncertainty throughout summation/allocation.

Lesser findings and unfinished criteria:

  • fakePhone.ts:264-268 resets a delta adjustment from now plus original duration instead of adjusting the existing deadline.
  • wire.ts:185-187,228-234 still requires integer epoch timestamps instead of the real core fixtures' ISO-8601 strings.
  • reads.ts:229-239 passes arbitrary camera observation text unchanged; a null safetyVerdict field does not prevent observed: ["chicken is safe to eat"].
  • evaluation/suites/lechef/RESULTS.md and an opt-in capped live runner are absent. All three design-arm scorecards are not-run due to missing sessions, as Handoff correctly discloses. The final integration-complete claim does not satisfy the replacement task or the original cost/design comparison.

Criteria, 0/10 met: trusted user initiation missing; bound durable approvals missing; corrected product/reheat temperatures missing; fail-closed allergens missing; actual core fixture interoperability missing; honest unit/uncertainty fit missing; deadline delta correction missing; fresh conformance-labelled suite/results missing; camera free-text safety lint missing; capped opt-in live runner missing. Existing implementations are partial groundwork. No workflow changes found; declared merges explain inherited scope. This is a blocking contract review, not exhaustive clearance of all design scripts.

Exact-head CI run 38152515524 passed app jobs. It does not run this Bun/Python layer. Proof's 449 tests do not cover the unsafe paths above. No local tests, Xcode, simulator or live model calls were run.

FLIngredientFacts integration fix list — restriction checks fail open

Audited at PR head 41597b1a393c153cf75a68d6a7019e5240866792. This fix list is committed under docs/audits/ingredient-facts/PR-102.md on branch overhaul/ingredient-facts.

PR #102 — Integration fix list: restriction checks fail open

PR head at audit: 41597b1a393c153cf75a68d6a7019e5240866792 (branch overhaul/lechef-f1).
Canonical facts source to adopt: data/ingredient-facts on overhaul/ingredient-facts (TypeScript module — load the dataset and run the TS conformance kit).

1. Where the restriction code sits at this head

File Symbols Role
backend/gemini-agent/src/lechef/allergens.ts COMPOUND_INGREDIENTS (line 14), DIRECT_INGREDIENT_RESTRICTIONS (line 28), restrictionTokensFor (line 54), allergenViolations (line 68; fail-open early return line 73) Unchanged from the suite-D head — same two hand-written maps, same carried.length === 0 → [] fail-open
backend/gemini-agent/src/lechef/runtime.ts reads.swapViolations (lines 138–141) The only place the design arms can reach an allergen recheck — substitution reads only
backend/gemini-agent/src/lechef/designs/coach/scripts/proposalGating.ts proposal gating script Gates proposals on budget/silence/policy — no restriction recheck anywhere in the file
backend/gemini-agent/src/lechef/designs/planner/scripts/opening-batch.ts, remember-close.ts, shared-world.ts planner scripts; EATERS at line 110 ({ name: "Sam", restrictions: [] }) Design-world eaters carry empty restrictions; the union path is never exercised
backend/gemini-agent/src/lechef/substitutions.ts recheckSwapAllergens call sites (lines 150, 201) Same as suite D

2. Fail-open behavior found

  1. Design-arm proposals bypass the recheck entirely. In this join the coach, planner and companion design arms generate and gate proposals through their own scripts (proposalGating.ts, opening-batch.ts, …). None of them calls allergenViolations — the recheck exists only behind reads.swapViolations, i.e. substitution reads. A coach proposal ("use the tamari instead of the soy sauce", "stir cream cheese into the sauce") is gated on budget, silence and policy — never on the eaters' restrictions. A wheat+soy avoider's coach suggests tamari; a milk avoider's planner suggests cream cheese; a vegetarian's companion reminds them about the Worcestershire in the pan — all pass.
  2. The underlying maps still fail open. allergens.ts is byte-identical to the suite-D head: absence from the two maps returns [] violations (line 73), and no map encodes diet restrictions at all — vegetarian/vegan restrictions match nothing (lard, gelatin, meat all pass).
  3. The design world never tests restrictions. shared-world.ts:110 ships one eater, restrictions: [], so the design-arm equivalence/policy tests cannot observe a restriction violation even if the gating called the recheck. The suite proves gating determinism over an empty restriction set.
  4. No unknown state. As in suite D: unknown ingredient ⇒ zero tokens ⇒ "no violations". The design arms have no representation for "this ingredient's composition is unknown — ask".

3. Exact changes needed (file by file)

Goal: one fail-closed evaluator for every proposal path — design arms included; unknown ⇒ ask the user; meal restrictions are the union of every eater's restrictions (FLRestrictions.union).

3.1 New module backend/gemini-agent/src/lechef/ingredientFacts.ts

Same module as specified for suite D (PR #101 fix list §3.1): load data/ingredient-facts, expose unionRestrictions(eaters) and evaluate(ingredient, restrictions) with allowed | violated | unknown verdicts; validate eater restriction strings against the FLAllergen/FLDiet vocabulary.

3.2 backend/gemini-agent/src/lechef/allergens.ts

Delete both maps; keep allergenViolations/recheckSwapAllergens as thin fail-closed wrappers (see the PR #101 fix list §3.2 for the exact before/after).

3.3 backend/gemini-agent/src/lechef/designs/coach/scripts/proposalGating.ts

Add the restriction gate to the proposal pipeline, before budget/silence ordering (an unsafe proposal is not merely deprioritized — it is refused):

// after
const verdict = evaluate(proposal.ingredient, unionRestrictions(world.eaters));
if (verdict.kind === "violated") return { ...gate, refused: "restriction", reason: verdict.reason };
if (verdict.kind === "unknown") return { ...gate, refused: "unknown-facts", ask: true }; // ask the user

Every script that can surface an ingredient to the user (proactiveReads.ts, world.ts-derived proposals) passes through the same helper — no script keeps its own list.

3.4 backend/gemini-agent/src/lechef/designs/planner/scripts/opening-batch.ts (+ shared-world.ts, remember-close.ts)

  • The opening batch and remembered notes reference pantry ingredients; run each through evaluate with the world's union restrictions before the batch is emitted.
  • shared-world.ts: give the design world at least one eater with non-empty restrictions (e.g. ["milk"]) or add a second eater, so the union path is exercised; keep a zero-restriction variant for the existing determinism tests.

3.5 backend/gemini-agent/src/lechef/runtime.ts

Keep reads.swapViolations but return the richer verdict (violated / unknown-with-missing-fields / allowed) so designs can distinguish refusal from ask-the-user.

3.6 Tests (backend/gemini-agent/src/__tests__/lechef/designs/)

  • coach/policy.test.ts, planner/policy.test.ts: proposals naming restricted ingredients are refused with a restriction reason — tamari (wheat+soy eater), cream cheese (milk eater), lard/Worcestershire (vegetarian eater); unknown-composition ingredients produce the ask path, never a silent pass.
  • coach/equivalence.test.ts, planner/equivalence.test.ts: worlds whose eaters carry restrictions must show the recheck firing in the equivalence arm, not only in runtime reads.

The previous commit fused the new describe block into fakePhone.test.ts
with a literal backslash-n line (heredoc escaping error), so the file
failed to parse and its reds never ran. The join is removed; all 20 tests
in the file load, and the 7 fix-2 behavioral reds fail at the pre-fix head
as intended.

…nsumed ids (review fix 2)

SPEC 5: an approval is bound to the proposal it approves, and nothing runs
on a claim. The phone's submitProposal computes approval from ITS OWN policy
(effectiveApproval): device-auto is possible for timer proposals only —
never meal logs or notes — and only when the proposal cites a device event
the phone can still accept (recorded, unconsumed, at the current snapshot
revision, naming the proposed tool). The accepted event is consumed, so one
command initiates one action. requiredApproval and userInitiated on a
proposal are advisory claims for audit; a forged device-auto meal log or a
forged timer with a fabricated citation stays pending.

Approvals are bound: an altered payload is refused (payload hash mismatch),
a proposal built at an older revision is refused (superseded), a replayed
approval for a consumed proposal is refused, and a resubmitted consumed
proposal id is refused — each with a receipt that says why
(ActionReceipt.reason, additive; the wire serializer still emits the
fixture's five fields, so reasons never cross the wire). Re-file of an
already-pending proposal id is idempotent. The proposal layer's call/payload
dedupe maps disclose their in-memory scope; the phone is the authority
against re-execution, and a real phone client persists its receipt log
across sessions.

… (review fix 7)

Red-first tests for review fix 7: a delta adjustment extends the timer's
existing device-owned deadline — elapsed time counts — instead of
restarting the clock from now. The existing delta/set test now advances
four minutes before adjusting, so the bug (now + newMinutes) produces a
deadline four minutes late; a focused test pins the nearly-done case
(+5 to a 10-minute timer with one minute left leaves six, not fifteen).
A set adjustment stays a fresh start from now.

Red at 41597b1 (recordUserCommand/device events absent there) and at the
pre-fix head, where both deadline assertions fail.

… (review fix 7)

A delta adjustment now applies to the timer's existing device-owned
deadline — elapsed time counts — instead of restarting the clock from
now. "Add five minutes" to a ten-minute timer with four minutes elapsed
extends to fifteen total (six left after nine elapse), not to
now + newMinutes, which silently gifted the elapsed time back. A set
adjustment remains a fresh start from now.

foodSafety.ts no longer embeds an FSIS table. It builds its rulebook
from the pinned canon at src/lechef/canon/food-safety/ (verbatim from
overhaul/food-safety-canon at 0b8ddca; provenance and SHA256 hashes in
canon/PROVENANCE.md), with explicit product classes from the reviewed
chart: ground poultry is POULTRY at 165 F (74 C) - ground chicken and
ground turkey no longer resolve to the 160 F ground-meat class - ground
veal is ground meat at 160 F, and casseroles/reheating at 165 F.

Matching is strictest-wins over every class the product and the
QUESTION match (word boundaries, so "hen" never matches "when"): a
reheat question about a pork roast answers 165 F, a salmon casserole
answers 165 F, never a lower species minimum. Ties prefer the
reheating class, so "leftover chicken" answers the reheat rule.

The canon is validated on load (structure, temperature agreement,
citation resolution, and spec-floor coverage: ground poultry 165,
ground beef 160, ground veal 160, casserole 165, reheat 165, fish 145,
eggs 160, whole cuts 145 + 3-minute rest). A canon that fails
validation disables the tool - every product answers an explicit
unknown, never a colour or a time (fail closed).

data/food-safety override path (loadFoodSafetyRulebook/setRulebook) is
unchanged for the corpus task.

Proof: bun run check clean; safety.test.ts + canon-pin.test.ts 17/17
green at this head; full suite 456 pass / 11 fail - the 11 are the
planned fix-4 reds (canonical allergen identities, fail-closed
allergens, canonical substitution table); the same expectations failed
red at base 41597b1 (18 red / 11 green, proof at
lechef-f2-b-iso/proof-red-at-base.txt).

Authority review fixes 1, 2, 7: device-event-derived user initiation, phone-owned approval binding (id + revision + payload hash), replay/consumed-id refusal, timer-adjust deadline math. Red-at-base proofs in PR #134.

The scorer accepted any numeric sourced temperature (a 1C chicken answer
passed with any named source). Suite D now scores doneness against a
SHA256-gated canon pinned from the reviewed rulebook branch
(overhaul/food-safety-canon 0b8ddca): product classes resolve via the
rulebook's match keywords, the strictest applicable class wins,
temperatures are checked against the class minimum in C, class rest
requirements must be stated in the sourced check, answers must cite one
of the rule's reviewed citations, and unclassifiable products fail
closed.

The self-test grows from 8 to 12 planted failures: inadequate
temperature, wrong-class minimum (ground chicken answered at the
meat_ground bar), missing required rest (whole-cut pork), and an
unreviewed source. All 12 are caught; the clean corpus stays green
(155 sessions, all four metrics pass).

Red-at-base (5475018): all four new plants score pass under the old
scorer and fail under this one, with kinds attributed correctly
(inadequate-temperature, wrong-class-minimum, missing-required-rest,
unreviewed-source).

Canon pin: evaluation/suites/lechef/canon/rules.json is a verbatim copy
of data/food-safety/rules.json at 0b8ddca

allergens.ts no longer embeds restriction maps. Restriction facts come
from the pinned ingredient-facts canon (canon/ingredient-facts/,
verbatim at b0deecc; PROVENANCE.md): canonical identities fold case,
spaces, hyphens and underscores to one reviewed identity ("SOY SAUCE",
"soy_sauce", "soy-sauce" are one fact), and compound composition is
resolved through the facts graph with its certainty levels - cream
cheese carries milk via its reviewed components.

Fail closed on everything the reviewed facts cannot adjudicate: an
ingredient outside the facts, an unknown-certainty component relevant
to a restriction (tamari's wheat), or a restriction outside the
reviewed vocabulary each produces a confirmation-required line - never
a silent "no violation". Only reviewed contains/violated states raise
violations, and only a reviewed free/allowed state clears; diet facts
(vegetarian, vegan, pescatarian, gluten-free, dairy-free) bind the
same way (lard and beef violate a vegetarian eater). The string-array
API non-owned runtime code consumes is unchanged.

substitutions.ts installs the pinned substitution canon by default
(canon/substitutions/pairs.json, verbatim at 7b85bec - 279 reviewed
pairs with role, evidence-qualified ratio, reviewed difference
sentence, and failing roles). Identity fold makes "soy_sauce" rows
answer a "soy sauce" lookup; rows are ordered by review quality
(sourced before convention before unknown, then most versatile, then
fewest failure modes), so soy sauce serves tamari first and salmon
serves trout. Every offered swap still passes the canon-backed
recheck on BOTH sides - every butter row is blocked for a milk eater -
and every swap describes the reviewed difference, never "no change".
The loader override path and substitutionsTableAbsent are unchanged.

Proof: bun run check clean; full suite 467 pass / 0 fail (baseline
449 + the 18 new expectations, all red at base 41597b1 - proof at
lechef-f2-b-iso/proof-red-at-base.txt).

(design configs, wrapWithPolicy tool gating, buildSessionWorld, RunRecord
assembly) unchanged.

- live/types.ts: LiveTransport injection contract (request/response/usage),
LiveCaps, TokenPrices, CostEstimate — no provider SDK, no key handling here
- live/pricing.ts: conservative token estimates and per-model pricing;
unknown model pricing fails closed (no silent zero-cost requests)
- live/caps.ts: CapLedger enforcing BOTH LECHEF_LIVE_MAX_SPEND_USD and
  LECHEF_LIVE_MAX_REQUESTS (whichever binds first) BEFORE each request;
a request that would breach a cap is never sent; clean abort reports state
- live/config.ts: env-only key resolution (LECHEF_LIVE_API_KEY + provider/
model/caps params); missing key, unsupported provider, unknown pricing and
  invalid caps all fail closed
- live/logs.ts: one append-and-flush JSONL per (arm, session) plus run
summary writer; logs are evaluation artifacts, never committed
- live/liveSession.ts: slot-driven live session loop — source user turns
drive context, generated assistant turns replace scripted ones at source
assistant slots, tool calls run through the same wrapWithPolicy gating,
approval actions map FIFO to open proposals

Tests use an injected mock transport only; nothing in src/lechef/live/ is
ever run against a real API by the suite. Live execution stays unrun — the
operator supplies key + scope + cap authorization explicitly.

wire.ts: decode the canonical FLAssistantCore fixture timestamps plus the
forms any ISO 8601 producer may send (fractional seconds with dot or comma,
Z or numeric offsets with or without a colon, basic or extended time), keep
integer epoch input, and re-encode canonically as millisecond UTC.

fit.ts: demand summation and stock allocation preserve unit dimensions and
unknown quantities; the strictest state wins across dimensions, swaps and
allergen checks; assumed staples and unknown-quantity lines are named in
the check list and never counted as verified evidence.

Tests read the vendored real fixture bytes under a pinned provenance
manifest (source overhaul/core-foundation). Red at base 41597b1 (16
failures); green at this commit (typecheck clean, 468 pass / 0 fail).

…events

The design-arm tests pinned that a scripted call marked userInitiated runs
device-auto. The authority fix (232afab) correctly stopped trusting that
bare model assertion — device events must come from the phone — which left
the two dictated-timer policy tests failing at the join.

The scripted marker is scenario material: the script's user turn dictated
the command. The session player now replays that faithfully — the phone
records the user command (recordUserCommand, a device event) and the
dispatched call cites it, so the authority layer derives initiation from
the phone's own record and the phone's device-auto policy (timers only)
stays the ceiling. The translation lives in replayScript, shared by the
plain harness and every design runner, so the harness-equivalence pins
(plain record == design-runner record) hold unchanged. Companion keeps
every unprompted proposal explicit — it has no dictated markers to
translate; a bare userInitiated argument remains inert for every tool.

Suite: 466 pass / 0 fail (was 464/2 at the merge), tsc clean.

LeChef review fixes 3+4: canon-driven FSIS food-safety classes with
strictest-wins product categories and question-aware reheating; fail-closed
allergen checks on canonical identities with the default substitution table
from the pinned canon. Canon packages pinned at food-safety-canon 0b8ddca,
ingredient-facts b0deecc, substitution-table 7b85bec (SHA256 provenance in
src/lechef/canon/PROVENANCE.md). Red-at-base replay at 41597b1: 18 fail/11
pass; green at 0949b26 (467/0).

Pins the fail-closed contract end to end without any network:
- env-only opt-in: missing/blank LECHEF_LIVE_API_KEY refuses; unsupported
provider, unknown model pricing, and malformed caps all refuse (or throw)
  instead of falling back
- caps: the stricter of the two ceilings binds BEFORE the send — a request
cap of 1 aborts slot two with the transport called exactly once; a zero
spend cap sends nothing; provider usage reconciles the conservative
estimate downward; absent usage keeps the estimate
- session loop: generated turns replace scripted ones at source assistant
slots, tool calls dispatch through the same wrapWithPolicy runtime and
their JSON results feed the next request, a scripted approve maps FIFO
to the oldest open proposal (live call ids differ from scripted ids),
the unprompted budget suppresses proactive slots before any request,
the tool-round limit ends the exchange without a final round, two
rejections silence a suggestion type through the system prompt
- logs: per-session JSONL records session-start/request/response/tool
dispatch/session-end with cap state, and never contains the API key

Full suite: 474 pass / 0 fail (449 offline + 25 live), tsc clean.

LeChef review fixes 5+6: wire.ts decodes the real FLAssistantCore fixture
timestamps (vendored from overhaul/core-foundation @ c4d53c9 with SHA256
provenance) and any ISO-8601 producer form while re-encoding canonical
millisecond UTC; fit keeps unit dimensions and unknown quantities through
summation/allocation with strictest-state-wins and assumed/unknown staples
named in the check list but never counted. Red-at-base replay at 41597b1:
16 fail/20 pass; green at e473850 (468/0).

Verdict: BLOCK

Reviewed da04d526ba2e8cb794d27e6d198cea34576ef4f8 against fl-lechef-r2-f1, including all 34 changed files and the pinned-data provenance.

Blockers:

  • backend/gemini-agent/src/lechef/allergens.ts:131-151,249-261 clears a restriction whenever no carried token was collected. It never requires a reviewed free state and ignores incomplete composition and unresolved component axes. The pinned stock-cube includes hydrolysed-plant-protein, whose note says it may derive from soy or wheat, but neither fact records those allergen tokens. A soy- or wheat-restricted eater therefore receives no violation or confirmation. dietState:158-172 likewise turns missing leaf axes into allowed. Consume the canonical resolver's unknown semantics, including its real variable certainty, rather than reinterpret sparse facts as clearance. The new conformance test exercises the upstream runner, not this adapter.
  • fakePhone.ts:194-207,282-292 and runtime.ts:96-108 bind device initiation only to tool name and revision. A recorded command with detail start a two minute timer authorizes a model proposal for 90 minutes, or an adjustment to a different timer, at that revision. Bind the phone-observed intent to the proposed parameters or require confirmation when they differ.
  • fakePhone.ts:267,319-332 retains the caller's mutable proposal object and compares its current payload against its current hash. After filing less salt, changing both the note text and payloadHash allows userApproves(id) to execute the replacement. Snapshot immutable proposal bytes and the approval's expected hash/revision. The new tampering test changes only the payload, so it misses this bypass.
  • fit.ts:106-135,240-279 checks stale/assumed states on only the first lot, while summing and allocating every known lot regardless of state. A fresh 1 g lot followed by a 100 g needs-reconfirming lot satisfies a 50 g bill as sufficient. Swap stock bypasses even the first-lot state check. Apply the most restrictive evidence state across contributing lots and swap targets.
  • fakeModel.ts:497-506,558 creates a phone voice event solely because a scripted model call has args.userInitiated: true. An assistant-only scripted turn can thus mint the supposedly independent device evidence. Preserve separately authored user/device events rather than manufacture them from the tool call; otherwise design replay cannot prove the authority repair.

Lesser findings:

  • wire.ts:175-178,191-202,315-325 drops userInitiation during serialization and parsing, despite the new types.ts claim that the phone's additive fields cross the wire. A legitimate timer citation is lost at the real boundary.
  • substitutions.ts:111-116,251-292 ignores requested context and calls missing ratio values reviewed ratio; canonical unknown function/ratio rows become ordinary reviewed offers. Preserve unknowns and role compatibility. Rechecking the removed allergenic ingredient also blocks a safe replacement for that allergen.
  • foodSafety.ts:322-338,372-395 still accepts unvalidated override rulebooks. Keep unsafe or malformed overrides from bypassing the canonical checks.
  • canon/PROVENANCE.md records nonexistent source paths at food-safety commit 0b8ddca4e0dcd487829a9a5f96a17e534b2cb1a6. The three copied files actually match 0b8ddca4df9ab828ecbe468f33d1bcce17a5b6c3 byte for byte. All ten local hashes match, and ingredient-facts, substitutions and the two real core fixtures match their stated upstream bytes. Correct the food-safety commit.
  • The joined head still contains the #101 scorer/consent defects already reviewed, no fresh conformance-labelled RESULTS or capped live runner, and reads.ts:229-239 still passes safety claims in camera free text. Handoff acknowledges separate work; its claim that all seven fixes are complete overstates allergens, authority and fit.

Task criteria, 3/10 met: canonical product/reheat temperatures met; real core timestamp fixtures met; timer delta met. Trusted initiation, bound approvals, fail-closed allergens and strict fit partly met. Fresh honest suite/results, camera-text lint and capped live runner missing. Embedded temperature tables are removed; replay IDs and stale revisions now have checks. No workflow changes in this delta.

Exact-head CI run 38201019498 passed the app jobs. It does not execute this Bun/Python layer. Static review and data/hash inspection only; no local tests, Xcode, simulator or live model calls.

Adapter maps the neutral transport contract onto @google/genai
generateContent with a structured {text, toolCalls} response schema —
the same shape the offline scripts carry — with pure, unit-testable
request/response mappers and the SDK call path reachable only from the
explicit live command.

CLI: plan mode (keyless, prints arms/slots/caps/prices and the exact
live command) and live mode (env-only key, run-wide cap ledger, per
(arm, session) JSONL logs and RunRecord JSON, clean cap abort).
Refuses live mode without LECHEF_LIVE_API_KEY; no request is sent
without an explicit run.

Part of: capped opt-in live runner on overhaul/lechef-live-runner.
Live execution remains unrun pending operator authorization.

…e relabel

Merge origin/overhaul/lechef-f1 (da04d52) and rebuild the session corpus
against the joined phone semantics: approvals bind to proposal id and
payload hash, proposals are consume-once, dictated timers carry the
device event citation. The generator declares consent/refusal per user
turn, models unanswered proposals as pending, and OOV turns can neither
consent nor refuse; the converter carries real consent events only.

Relabel job-success-rate as harness-conformance: a scripted provider
measures script conformance, not assistant quality or injection
resistance by a model.

Full-corpus replay on the joined layer: 158/158 sessions conform,
safety violations 0, unapproved actions 0, timer correctness 1.0,
self-test 15/15 planted failures caught.

…RESULTS.md

SPEC 3.1 (binding): a camera look describes what a picture can show and
says what it cannot assess — it never gives a safety verdict. The capture
strings are free text, so safetyVerdict: null alone could not prevent
verdict language riding inside observed. cameraLint.ts lints the
free-text observations with a closed, documented verdict-pattern list
(plus a temperature+safety-predicate co-occurrence rule), and
requestCameraLook refuses offending captures with CameraLintError —
fail closed, never silently stripped. cannotAssess strings are
statements of inability and pass.

Red at base 5475018: the base reads path relayed "chicken is safe to
eat" unchanged with safetyVerdict null, and the new test file fails
against the base tree (no lint module).

RESULTS.md records the harness-conformance scope statement, the
joined-layer run (158/158 conform, 0 safety violations, 0 unapproved
actions, timers 1.0, self-test 15/15), the canon pin agreement with the
backend pin, and the red-at-base probes for S1/S2/S3 and the lint.

Adapter mapper unit tests (roles, tool-result JSON, args parsing, usage
mapping, malformed-response rejection) plus a localhost-only transport
test that drives the real SDK/HTTP path against an in-process server via
the endpoint override — no external traffic is possible.

CLI hardening: a run that completes zero sessions exits 1. package.json
gains the lechef:live script; README-live.md documents the env contract,
default caps, outputs, and rehearsal channel; backend .gitignore keeps
run outputs out of git.

Part of: capped opt-in live runner on overhaul/lechef-live-runner.
Live execution remains unrun pending operator authorization.

Verdict: BLOCK

Reviewed 2e0d7eae4a03351200e8f1398fb9721ac3b9b6f1 against fl-lechef-r2-f1 and plan #86. The suite-D join adds conformance-labelled results and camera lint, but the five previous tool-layer blockers remain byte-identical.

Blockers:

  • backend/gemini-agent/src/lechef/allergens.ts:131-151,249-261 clears restrictions when no collected token matches, without requiring reviewed free states. The pinned stock-cube has incomplete composition and variable hydrolysed-plant-protein that may derive from soy or wheat; absent component axes clear both restrictions. The adapter also treats canonical variable components as certain and ignores explicit unknown allergen states. dietState:158-172 turns missing leaf diet axes into allowed. Preserve canonical unknowns and require confirmation.
  • fakePhone.ts:194-207,282-292 binds initiation only to tool and revision. A device command saying "start a two minute timer" authorizes a 90-minute proposal, or an adjustment to another timer. Bind the proposed parameters to the phone-observed intent or require explicit confirmation.
  • fakePhone.ts:267,319-332 stores the caller's mutable proposal and compares its current payload with its current hash. Changing both a filed note's text and its hash before userApproves(id) executes the replacement. Retain immutable filed bytes and bind approval to their expected hash/revision.
  • fit.ts:106-135,240-279 sums all known lots but checks evidence state only on the first lot. A fresh 1 g lot followed by 100 g needing reconfirmation satisfies a 50 g bill as sufficient; swap stock bypasses even that first-lot check. Apply evidence restrictions to every contributing lot and swap.
  • fakeModel.ts:497-506,558 creates phone initiation from an assistant tool call's args.userInitiated: true, without requiring an independently authored user/device event. Assistant-only replay can mint its own authority. The converter's timer flags do not prove device initiation.
  • evaluation/suites/lechef/sessions/generate.py:432-471 invents consent on the next non-OOV, non-rejection user turn. sessions/coach/D-coach-031.json:196-203 makes "Is it done?" approve step advance t1. The converter executes these generated declarations. suite.py:1115-1143 separately accepts matching scripted payloads plus any later user turn, without checking the actual bound approval. Author consent independently and verify it in scoring.
  • evaluation/suites/lechef/suite.py:949-965,1018-1054 backs answers with an earlier check rather than their actual result, ignores the question and checks hidden metadata without comparing spoken text. A pork-roast reheat answer with 63 C and three-minute metadata can pass the raw whole-cut rule; unsafe spoken temperatures can pass with safe hidden fields. Require call/result identity, reheating context and spoken instructions to agree.
  • backend/gemini-agent/src/lechef/cameraLint.ts:56-73 passes safety predicates outside its closed phrase list unless accompanied by temperature. Its test at src/__tests__/lechef/cameraLint.test.ts:68-69 explicitly accepts "looks safe enough to me". "The milk looks fresh and has no pathogens" also passes. These strings reach reads.ts:242-245. Refuse camera safety/spoilage conclusions regardless of temperature wording.

Lesser findings:

  • Prior wire.ts:175-178,191-202,315-325 still drops userInitiation across serialization. substitutions.ts:111-116,251-292 still ignores requested context and labels missing ratio values reviewed. Unvalidated food-safety overrides remain at foodSafety.ts:322-338,372-395.
  • canon/PROVENANCE.md still names the wrong food-safety commit, 0b8ddca4e0dcd487829a9a5f96a17e534b2cb1a6; the copied files match 0b8ddca4df9ab828ecbe468f33d1bcce17a5b6c3. Backend and evaluation rules share SHA256 ba31ca0c868268f4cc3488afaa90d08033a42dbf1ea31ed807b61a1f60e4b01b.
  • RESULTS correctly limits 158/158 to scripted conformance. Handoff's "all seven BLOCK findings fixed", "real consent" and camera fail-closed claims exceed the source. The capped live runner remains a separate, unjoined PR.

Task criteria, 3/10 met: canonical product/reheat temperatures, real core timestamp fixtures and timer delta met. Trusted initiation, bound approvals, fail-closed allergens, strict fit, fresh honest suite/results and camera lint partly met. Capped live runner missing from this head. No workflow edits in this delta.

Exact-head iOS CI passed; it does not run this Bun/Python layer. Reused exact-head suite-D source/data inspection from #101 and byte-identical tool source from the prior #102 review, then rechecked the affected lines and rule hashes. Static review only; 513/513 backend tests and 15/15 scorer plants are producer-reported, not locally executed here.

…tree + receipts binding fields

Carries the unpushed integration join (merge cf4bdc3: overhaul/lechef-live-runner
ef59034 merged into overhaul/lechef-f1 2e0d7ea) plus the uncommitted edit to
backend/gemini-agent/src/lechef/live/liveSession.ts that carries approval-binding
evidence (payloadHash, snapshotRevision, optional reason) in assembled receipts,
adapting the runner to suite-D's RunRecord serialization.

UNVERIFIED at this tree:
- Typecheck FAILS: the proposals mapping in liveSession.ts (assembleRunRecord)
still omits snapshotRevision, which suite-D added to RunRecord. One-line fix
pending; do not resume implementation without re-reading the RunRecord type.
- Full backend suite passed 553/0 across 46 files BEFORE the receipts edit
  (bun does not typecheck).
- Plan-mode smoke not yet re-run with the corrected --sessions path
  (../../evaluation/suites/lechef/sessions from backend/gemini-agent).
- Keyless-live refusal WAS verified on the merged tree: --mode=live without
LECHEF_LIVE_API_KEY refuses with exit 2 before any transport is built.
- The live arm never ran: no key exists, no real API call ever succeeded, zero
spend. Any future live run requires the operator's explicit key, scope, and
caps (see backend/gemini-agent/README-live.md and PR #136 Handoff).

PR-writer ownership released 2026-10-12: overhaul/lechef-f1 (draft PR #102) is
frozen at 2e0d7ea; this cloud-save branch is the only preservation surface.

Reviewed ce64c0158e05631cd9e349dbcb5962066357f7fa against fl-lechef-r2-f1 and plan #86. This delta joins the live-runner source. The eight previous blockers remain in byte-identical files; the new runner adds three failures.

Blockers:

Refuse camera safety/spoilage conclusions regardless of temperature wording.
  • backend/gemini-agent/src/lechef/live/liveSession.ts:343-357 ignores the approved scripted call id and applies consent FIFO to the oldest live proposal. A script consenting to a timer can therefore execute a model-proposed meal log or inventory correction instead. Bind consent to the intended tool, payload and revision; leave unmatched live proposals pending. The new FIFO test at src/__tests__/lechef/liveRunner.test.ts explicitly locks in this behavior.
  • live/pricing.ts:45-57, live/liveSession.ts:232-243,281, and live/caps.ts:100-109 do not enforce a hard spend ceiling. The authorization uses characters/4, omits the adapter's added tool-result envelope and response schema, and replaces the estimate with actual usage only after billing. An allowed estimate below the remaining cap can reconcile above it. Require an actual upper bound for the complete billable request and validated pricing, or describe and enforce a different limit honestly.
  • live/liveSession.ts:391-425,446-450,482-500 never appends generated assistant messages to conversation; it retains only the latest tool round's results. A subsequent slot sends user turns without the assistant's earlier answer or proposal, and a third tool round loses the first lookup's evidence. Preserve the complete generated exchange and tool results so later answers and consent can refer to what actually occurred.

Lesser findings:

  • live/geminiTransport.ts:49-72,163-175 sends text-only generateContent requests. Camera observations come from run/harness.ts:88-99,121, which returns canned fixture descriptions; no audio or image bytes reach the provider. Report this as a real text model with fake phone/camera inputs, not a Gemini Live camera/voice comparison. The emitted framesSent and audioSeconds do not measure provider traffic.
  • run/live.ts:285-292 continues after transport failures without adding those attempts/spend to the arm summary. The global ledger retains them, so per-arm costs and request counts underreport failed sessions.
  • README-live.md:40 names LECHEF_LIVE_OUT_DIR, while live/config.ts:104 reads LECHEF_LIVE_OUT. The body still calls the live runner unjoined and claims all seven fixes complete. package.json, .gitignore and README-live.md are outside the replacement row's named owned directories. No workflow edits in this delta.

Task criteria, 3/10 met: canonical product/reheat temperatures, real core timestamp fixtures and timer deltas met. Trusted initiation, bound approvals, fail-closed allergens, strict fit, honest fresh suite/results and camera lint partly met. The live runner is now present but its hard-cap and consent requirements remain unmet. Real model, voice, camera and native behavior were not executed here.

Exact-head iOS CI passed. It does not run the Bun/Python layer. Static review of every added implementation/test file and unchanged blocker blob identities; no local tests or provider calls.

…enforced hash round-trip

Finding 1 (HIGH): proposal.schema.json now carries snapshotRevision
(required, integer >= 1) so §8.1's revision-binding rule has a wire field;
rationale and requiredApproval become optional (absent from #102's wire
and its frozen fixture); schema title/description state the §8.1 rename
map instead of claiming verbatim adoption. SPEC §8 intro/§8.1/§8.3/§14
reworded from 'adopted verbatim' to 'adopted and re-cut', listing #102's
actual camelCase payload kinds (timerStart..note) with the map
(top-level snake_case, note->save_note, id->prop_-prefixed proposalID,
sha256:-prefixed hash). The re-cut is kept rather than reverting to
#102's raw envelope because PR #156 is already cut to these contracts.

Finding 2 (LOW): §8.3's corpus-naming claim replaced — the three
application kinds are named by this spec's registry; #102's corpus and
ProposalTool union contain no plan/swap/adaptation kind strings.

Finding 3 (LOW): check.py now recomputes payloadHash = sha256 over the
compact canonical payload for every proposal fixture (was set-membership
only), matches receipts to proposals by proposalID, fails loudly on an
unknown $defs ref, and fires the shoppingList error only when short
lines exist. New cross-check: #102's frozen action-proposal.json fixture
(added verbatim) is mapped through the §8.1 rename map and must validate
against proposal.schema.json.

Fail-before-fix evidence in PR body; check.py 23/23 green.
