Adds what OpenMouse Bridge needs to run a Logitech mouse from software (Host mode) for per-game profiles.

  • Bunny hop in Host mode. Set the bunny hop time on a mouse that is running from software, so a game profile can carry it.
  • Button listener. A Host mode mouse stops sending its Back and Forward side buttons as clicks and reports them as events instead. The listener turns those events on, reports which buttons are held, and puts the mouse back in its previous mode when it stops. MouseStatus.hostButtons carries Bridge's side button assignments, including media keys.
  • A report rate per connection. MouseStatus.pollingRateWirelessHz and pollingRateWiredHz are new optional fields, so a game profile can keep a wireless and a wired rate for a mouse such as the PRO X 3 Superstrike. The driver never sets them; the control panel fills in the current connection's value.

Tests added for the listener (start, stop, mode restore) and for the Host mode bunny hop.

Checked on a PRO X 3 Superstrike: bunny hop works, and the default Back and Forward mapping works.

Related PRs: the OpenMouse Bridge and OpenMouse app PRs for custom games and game profiles use these. They are drafts until this is released and their pins are bumped.

Note

Add Host-mode bunny hop and button listener to Logitech HID++ client

  • Adds LogitechHidppClient.setHostBunnyHopMs, which validates the duration, rejects unsupported mice, and writes the value in ten-millisecond units to the Host-mode bunny-hop feature in hidpp.ts
  • Adds button-listener support in hidpp.ts: startButtonListener discovers the feature, configures the mouse with its reported button list, and cleans up with a stop request if setup fails; stopButtonListener and onButtonChange handle shutdown and subscription
  • Extends MouseStatus in mouse-types.ts with optional fields for the last bunny-hop duration, Host-mode side-button mappings, and wireless/wired polling rates
  • Adds Node test coverage with scripted HID++ fake devices and responders in button-listener.test.ts and host-bunny-hop.test.ts
  • Risk: close in hidpp.ts now clears the button-listener feature index, so input reports arriving after close no longer dispatch button callbacks

Macroscope summarized 3f0398d.

📝 Walkthrough

The Logitech HID++ client now supports button-listener events and host-mode bunny-hop settings. MouseStatus adds optional host-control mappings and connection-specific polling-rate fields.

Changes: Logitech host controls

Layer / File(s) Summary
Host-control fields and feature IDs
src/drivers/mouse-types.ts, src/drivers/logitech/hidpp.ts
MouseStatus gains optional host-mode bunny-hop and button-mapping fields. HID++ feature identifiers are added for host bunny-hop and button listening.
Button listener notifications and lifecycle
src/drivers/logitech/hidpp.ts, src/drivers/logitech/button-listener.test.ts
The client dispatches button bitmasks to subscribers and adds start and stop methods. Tests cover startup, event delivery, unsubscribe, filtering, stopping, failure cleanup, closing, and unsupported devices.
Host bunny-hop configuration
src/drivers/logitech/hidpp.ts, src/drivers/logitech/host-bunny-hop.test.ts
The client validates host bunny-hop durations and writes them in 10 ms units. Tests cover valid and invalid values and unavailable feature support.

Connection-specific polling status

Layer / File(s) Summary
Wired and wireless polling-rate fields
src/drivers/mouse-types.ts
MouseStatus gains optional polling-rate values for wired and wireless connections.

Merge Risk: ⚪ Minimal · up to 3f039

The listener lifecycle concern has been addressed; no remaining issue identified here prevents merging after normal checks.

Security architecture risk: 🔵 Low · up to 3f039

The changes remain scoped to a connected mouse, but listener setup and teardown do not consistently preserve device-state ownership during failures or overlapping operations. Application-side keyboard and media handling remains unverified.

Retained concerns

  • Low · reliability · inferred: The new listener does not maintain a single ownership transition across setup, stop, and close. Startup publishes the dispatch gate before configuration completes, but rollback covers only the final configuration request. Stop clears that gate before attempting device cleanup and suppresses stop-request failures; close never sends the device stop command. Overlapping start and stop can therefore complete with device configuration and local delivery out of sync. This is a bounded device-control rollback concern, not a demonstrated privilege escalation; persistence after transport closure remains unverified.
Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The demonstrated control scope is the mouse or receiver slot addressed by a client instance. The evidence does not establish tenant-wide, service-wide, or arbitrary-host control. Any broader effect through downstream synthesized input depends on unavailable consumers.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — The existing selection path requests WebHID access using Logitech filters, while reconnection enumerates already authorized devices. New feature methods operate on an existing client and check feature availability. Report routing checks device, feature, and event identifiers; these checks route device input rather than independently authenticate it.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • inferred — Clearing the local dispatch gate contains subsequent callback delivery, but it does not prove release of device-side reporting ownership. Failed stop commands and overlapping startup can leave that ownership uncertain; whether closing the HID transport resets the physical feature is unresolved.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed — Give listener setup and teardown one serialized ownership lifecycle, cover ambiguous startup failures with cleanup, and distinguish confirmed device shutdown from local delivery suppression. For downstream synthesized input, define how held keys and modifiers are released on stop, disconnect, and failed setup.

Clear the cached button-listener index on every stop and close path.

onInputReport dispatches matching reports while buttonListenerFeatureIndex is set. Clear it before the stop request and before close() performs asynchronous teardown. This prevents queued reports from reaching subscribers during teardown and prevents the cached index from becoming active when the same client reopens.

The clear must also run when the feature is unsupported or the stop request fails.

Stop the button listener when setup fails.

startButtonListener() completes function 0x10 before setList runs. If setList rejects, the public method rejects without sending stop function 0x20. The device can remain active even though startup failed.
