bridged_broker_releases_the_directory_promptly_after_shutdown failed on a fork CI run with "directory held for 491ms". The test timed everything up to the moment FileBackend::new returned Ok, so it counted the time spent building the backend, not just the time the lock was held. Under load that build alone takes 400 to 665ms.

The test now stops the clock at the start of the reopen attempt that succeeds.

Checked locally:

  • before: 21 failures in 120 runs of the test binary, 12 in parallel
  • after: 0 failures in 240 runs under the same load
  • negative control: holding the broker's storage for 600ms after shutdown makes the test fail with "directory held for 602ms"
