I invalidate the current check when a predicate calls clear or reset. Its stale result can no longer run the callback or create a second polling chain. I modernise the runtime syntax and remove the empty immediate while preserving synchronous initial checks.
This is PR 2 of 6 in the modernisation stack. It depends on #1. Review and merge the stack in order.
Predicate validation is left to the next PR.
