fix: harden homepage plugin and skill installation journeys - #533
Released website install commands could fail on healthy cold-starting native clients: Claude and Codex commands were measured at 19.5s and 15.6s against a 15s discovery limit. Give these read-only probes a bounded 60s budget while retaining cancellation, earlier caller deadlines and process-tree cleanup. Explain source/client check timeouts accurately instead of suggesting that one selected Skill exceeds an aggregate review limit.
Explicit --target now constrains the current saved plugin/Skill installation and selected removal, including review and apply rechecks. A regression proves removing one client succeeds without repairing edits in an unselected client; updates still require every saved target. Other saved targets remain in the portable agreement and can still be reconciled with deps sync; CLI notices explain that preservation. Missing or failed client detection now yields actionable TARGET_UNAVAILABLE guidance instead of telling a one-Skill/one-target request to reduce its selection.
Interactive saved-add defaults now exclude absent clients, failed safety inspections and incompatible package/host combinations through the shared admission rules. Missing OpenCode host authority is deferred through its typed contract until actual selection; presenting choices executes no native preparation. Final installation still performs authoritative admission. Explicit targets retain normal installer admission.
Homepage restore snippets, all five maintained Quickstarts and the published manage journey now use the same standalone npm launcher as installation, so an absent or older global agentplugins cannot break export/import or locked installation. Existing rendered-command expectations are updated.
Required CI exposed a Linux process-supervisor race when a short-lived child exited between procfs snapshots. Re-read the same child before refusing a changed parent, accepting only disappearance or the same process in a terminal state; live reparenting, PID reuse and uncertain observations remain refusals. Both command-copy components now announce success only after an actual successful copy and clean up failed fallback attempts. The native shell bootstrap quotes its downloaded binary path, so valid temporary directories containing spaces work on Linux.
Ordinary PR/push CI runs of Polyglot Smoke and ordinary PR runs of Terminal UI cancel superseded checks for the same PR/ref. Manual and scheduled invocations remain isolated. Final release qualification still requires exact tagged-merge evidence; a cancelled Polyglot proof must be rerun through isolated workflow dispatch at the frozen tag and its head SHA verified. Job graphs, check names and release gates are unchanged.
Verification
Native shell bootstrap spaced-path blackbox regression failed on Linux before the quoting fix and passed after it; existing native installer family and shell syntax checks passed.
Linux race regression failed on the prior code and passed on the fix; 1,500 real rapid shell commands passed on isolated Linux with pinned Go 1.26.10 binaries and recorded source/binary hashes. Independent process-safety review found no blockers.
CI trace exposed a shared 30-second budget expiring before the third demo viewport activation. Responsive variants now use independent lifecycles with the same per-test budget and keyboard/preload/layout assertions.
Existing public-authoring tests passed 5/5, plus locale parity, public-boundary and drift checks. Browser copy-denial regressions are included in current-head CI.
Focused regressions for selected-target preservation/removal, global identity conflicts, missing/unsafe client detection, timeout guidance, cancellation and parent deadlines. Confirmed selected-removal drift test fails before the fix and passes after.
Live isolated E2E: candidate installed find-skills only into requested Codex/OpenCode despite saved Claude/Cursor/Gemini intent; previously failing tdd installed into Codex/Gemini/OpenCode; interactive Claude-only find-skills succeeded and displayed the preserved-target notice.
Release negative E2E: plugin/Skill dry runs created no manifest/lock; unknown Skill was a structured refusal.
Read-only technical review found no blocking issues in target eligibility and typed OpenCode deferral.
Clean-profile real PTY E2E passed: default Enter selection, explicit apply confirmation and Context7 installation into Claude/Codex/Cursor/Gemini/Grok/Kimi/OpenCode, exit 0; all seven bindings persisted. Missing clients and incompatible Kiro were excluded. Runtime authentication and manual reload steps are not counted as verified.
Both changed Go modules passed CI-pinned size/architecture and changed-line lint; lint baseline validator passed.
Local aggregate core run hit its 10m installer budget and HOME-ancestor-sensitive fixtures; failed cases pass separately in neutral TEST roots. Neutral-temp reruns passed the Grok, providers, installer and usecase packages. CLI command/bootstrap/prompt/picker packages passed; the internal CLI aggregate also hit its package budget, and its interrupted source-provenance test passes separately. These earlier local limitations are superseded by the successful final-head CI below.
Final integration verification
Integrated current main and retained the bounded 60s Claude probe with typed cleanup diagnostics; updated both incoming 30s budget expectations.
Verified published npm 0.1.93 supports deps export; corrected stale source-only transfer notices in the four localized Quickstarts.
Browser trace exposed a security-tooltip assertion accepting an already-closing element. The test now waits for hydration and settled scrolling and requires an open tooltip state; all content and navigation assertions and timeouts remain intact.
Final head 80203bff3d36d9839bbfa4c001a0291fcaf557cc: all 18 Actions workflows succeeded, including full Landing browser E2E, both Pages base paths, Required, Core fast, native installers/runtimes, Terminal UI, Polyglot Smoke and authoring native/packed/Milestone A E2E. All 70 executable checks succeeded; CodeRabbit was neutral.
Final technical review found no blocking issues; focused selected-target, probe-budget and caller-deadline checks passed.
Release Impact
Installer/process fixes, standalone restore guidance and truthful command-copy feedback. No public release or npm tag change in this PR. Publication is a separately authorized follow-up after merge and qualification. No VS Code change or standard-authoring release qualification. Native discovery remains bounded; an unresponsive probe can now take up to 60s unless its caller expires sooner.

Walkthrough
The CLI now carries selected targets through saved dependency and Skills operations, scopes sync planning and rechecks, and reports saved targets outside the selection. The pull request also changes target diagnostics and discovery timeouts, installer and process handling, copy feedback, browser tests, and documented CLI commands.
Sync planning filters desired bindings and removal planning by selected targets. An empty selection preserves unfiltered behavior. Tests cover unselected binding drift and conflicting source identity.
Saved-add eligibility and deferred checks cli/internal/agentpluginscli/saved_add.go, cli/internal/agentpluginscli/saved_add_targets.go, cli/internal/agentpluginscli/saved_add_eligibility_test.go, cli/internal/agentpluginscli/saved_add_prompt_test.go
Automatic selection filters clients by detection and source compatibility. Preview planning defers a specific missing OpenCode host authority check; the later saved operation checks the selected host. Tests cover eligibility, prompts, deferred checks, and cancellation.
Saved operations and Skills preparation pass selected targets into sync planning and rechecks. Output includes selected targets, and notices identify saved targets outside the selection. Tests cover scoped actions and retained saved intent and bindings.
Target-facts failures wrap ErrTargetFactsUnavailable. Review timeout guidance describes timed-out source or client checks. Claude probe and native discovery timeouts increase to 60 seconds. Tests cover cancellation and caller deadlines.

English and translated instructions use the package-runner command for dependency transfer, installation, and management examples. Authoring tests expect the updated commands.
777genius/universal-agent-plugins#488: Adds terminal target selection and Skills review/apply flow that this change extends with target-scoped sync and rechecks.
777genius/universal-agent-plugins#473: Changes source-aware dependency identities and environment sync, which this change extends with target filtering.
Merge Risk: Minimal · up to 8c804
The quickstart commands now consistently use the npm launcher, and no contradictory source-build notices remain. No merge-blocking documentation issue was found. The published package's command set remains unverified, which is a normal release-follow-up concern.
