Thanks for asking — good catch, the example could be clearer about this.

rate is the exchange rate used to convert OpenCode's reported cost (costUnit, normally USD) into your display currency. In the example config, "currency": "CNY" + "rate": 6.77 means "multiply USD by 6.77 to show ¥".

• You don't have to set it. 6.77 is just the built-in default (DEFAULT_COST_DISPLAY in src/format-cost.ts); the example file writes it out so the field is discoverable. Omitting rate gives you the same default.
• If you display USD (the unit OpenCode reports in): set "currency": "USD" and drop rate — no conversion happens, no maintenance needed.
• If you display another currency (CNY, EUR, GBP, JPY): set rate to the current exchange rate yourself. 6.77 is a snapshot of the USD→CNY rate from when the default was written and does not update automatically, so replace it with today's rate. Current mid-market rates can be looked up at:

Fixed in v0.7.1 (see PR #10):

• Added a clarifying comment next to rate in cache-hit.config.example.json and a note in both READMEs.
• Config loading now accepts JSONC (line/block comments, trailing commas) — previously a config containing // comments failed to parse silently and fell back to all defaults.
