Spectrum

A real-time audio spectrum analyzer and decibel meter for the Light Phone III. Measures tone frequency and loudness. Reads the mic and lays out the frequencies in the room like a parametric EQ.

Features

  • Live spectrum across the audible range (20 Hz - 20 kHz) on a log frequency axis
  • Peak frequency reading, with nearest musical note and cents offset
  • Drag along the curve to read the frequency at any point
  • Slide your finger up or down while dragging to adjust scrubbing speed
  • Play a sine tone to match the selected frequency (speaker icon)
  • Decibel meter for a simple loudness reading (mic icon)
  • Freeze the current reading at any time (HOLD button)

Installing on Light Phone III

  • This release is not built with the official Light SDK. (Waiting for more microphone-related permissions to be exposed upstream.) When that time comes, I will refactor to support the SDK directly!
  • In the meantime, I recommend using Obtainium to ensure you receive future updates automatically. Add the repo URL, make sure you're able to install apps from unknown sources, and you're all set.
  • Alternatively, download the latest APK from the Releases tab.

Warning

I built Spectrum as a general reference tool, so perfect accuracy is not guaranteed. This should go without saying, but please don't depend on this tool for hearing tests, medical purposes, or high-stakes audio engineering work. Use professional gear for those things!

Support

If any of my tools have been useful to you, I'd love to hear from you! Feel free to reach out here. Another way to support is to consider sponsoring. Either way, it means a lot!
