Alekzander "Boreas" Ryann was born into the life of the KGB. His ultimate goal is to prevent the spread of Linux because it would give the USSR a huge disadvantage. He had an unplanned daughter named Cleopatra Ryann that was not known to him or the general public, and the mother secretly sent her to the US when she was just a baby. She grew up to eventually work for the CIA. She got a tip from the director of a KGB operative named "Boreas" plotting to prevent the spread of linux as it was being developed as an improvement over the already existing Unix systems.

    Cold war from 1947-1991
    Cleopatra was born in 1965
    Linux developed in 1991
Linus Torvalds: Finnish. Soviets had invaded Finland in 1939, and Linus's motive behind Linux was to help the US establish tech dominance over the USSR

Conclusion: As a result of Cleopatra successfully thwarting the plot of her father, the cold war came to an end as it became abundantly clear that the technological and economical might of the USSR could not hold up against the US's.
