This release locks Beacon to portrait orientation on mobile devices. Beacon is an emergency-first interface, so the rescue UI should not rotate into landscape because of gravity sensor changes while the user is moving, panicking, lying down, or carrying the phone one-handed.

Kept hf-mirror.com and official Hugging Face URLs as ordered fallbacks.
Updated the legacy downloadUrl field so older allowlist readers also start from ModelScope.
Kept the APK model-free: users install the small app first, then download model weights inside Beacon with resumable progress.
Bumped Android to versionCode 14 / versionName 0.2.11.

Verification

Tested ModelScope E2B/E4B links with per-command proxy bypass; system proxy was not changed.

Beacon v0.2.8 — Mobile Setup, Camera Flow & Fresh Branding

This release focuses on the first-run mobile experience: downloading the model should feel alive, language switching should be clean, visual help should enter the native photo flow immediately, and the app should look calmer and more polished.

What changed

Model download buttons now switch immediately into an in-place progress state, including spinner, progress bar, percentage, and ETA text.
Android native download flow now emits a first progress event before the HTTP connection finishes opening, so slow networks no longer look frozen.
Language switching now uses a custom mobile-friendly popover instead of the system select UI, avoiding odd native dropdown backgrounds.
The Settings & Models sheet now includes its own language switcher, so first-run users can change language without closing the setup sheet.
Visual help now opens the native camera/photo picker before checking model readiness, so users can enter the photo flow without being blocked by model setup.
Top status controls were moved down with a stronger safe-area offset to avoid overlapping phone time/signal indicators.
Replaced the app logo, launcher icons, PWA icons, splash assets, and social preview with a cleaner teal/mint Beacon identity.

Install

Download Beacon-v0.2.8-android-arm64.apk below and install it on an ARM64 Android device.

The APK does not bundle Gemma model weights. Users download the model inside the app, using the configured mirror list.
