Installation

Quick Start (New Machine)

# One command installs chezmoi + applies dotfiles
sh -c "$(curl -fsLS get.chezmoi.io)" -- init --apply tctibbs/dotfiles

You'll be prompted for:

• identity: personal or work (sets git email)
• profile: full, lite, or minimal (controls package installation)

Manual Installation

# Clone and initialize
git clone https://github.com/tctibbs/dotfiles.git ~/dotfiles
cd ~/dotfiles

chezmoi init --source=. --apply

Install Profiles

Profile	Description
full	Everything: GUI apps (WezTerm, VSCode), fonts, all CLI tools
lite	All CLI tools, skip GUI apps and fonts (for SSH, containers)
minimal	Just shell and git config (fastest)

Windows

# Install chezmoi via winget
winget install twpayne.chezmoi

# Apply dotfiles
chezmoi init --apply tctibbs/dotfiles

Daily Usage

chezmoi diff          # Preview changes
chezmoi apply         # Apply changes
chezmoi edit ~/.zshrc # Edit source, auto-applies
chezmoi add ~/.newfile # Add new dotfile to management
chezmoi cd            # Go to source directory
chezmoi update        # Pull latest and apply

Naming Conventions

Prefix	Meaning
dot_	File starts with . (dot_zshrc → ~/.zshrc)
private_	File mode 600 (not world-readable)
.tmpl	Go template, rendered with variables
run_once_	Script runs once per machine
run_onchange_	Script runs when content changes
