9.1.1

pytest 9.1.1 (2026-06-19)

Bug fixes

  • #14220: Fixed a logic bug in pytest.RaisesGroup which would might cause it to display incorrect "It matches FooError() which was paired with BarError" messages.
  • #14591: Fixed a regression in pytest 9.1.0 which caused overriding a parametrized fixture with an indirect @pytest.mark.parametrize to fail with "duplicate parametrization of '<fixture name>'".
  • #14606: Fixed list-item typing errors from mypy in @pytest.mark.parametrize <pytest.mark.parametrize ref> argvalues parameter.
  • #14608: Fixed a regression in pytest 9.1.0 where conftest.py files located in <invocation dir>/test* were no longer loaded as initial conftests when invoked without arguments. This could cause certain hooks (like pytest_addoption) in these files to not fire.

Updates pytest-playwright to 0.10.0

Release notes

Sourced from pytest-playwright's releases.

v0.10.0

Highlights

Traces for playwright.request API contexts (#333). --tracing now also records contexts created with playwright.request.new_context(), one chunk per test, so a session-scoped API context yields a trace per test. The traces follow the same retain-on-failure handling, trace-N.zip naming and report attachments as browser traces. Requires Playwright 1.60 or newer.

Artifacts in test reports (#332). Kept screenshots, videos and traces are added to the teardown report as playwright_screenshot, playwright_video and playwright_trace user properties, so --junitxml writes them as <property> elements and pytest_runtest_logreport hooks and reporters can pick them up. With pytest-html >= 4 they are linked from the report, and embedded with --self-contained-html.

Reruns keep their own artifacts (#331). With pytest-rerunfailures, every attempt now writes to its own folder, test-results/<test>-retry1/ and so on, like Playwright Test. Attempts no longer overwrite each other.

Artifacts survive fixture failures in teardown (#330). --tracing retain-on-failure, --video retain-on-failure and --screenshot only-on-failure now keep artifacts when a fixture fails during teardown. A test skipped from a fixture no longer counts as failed.

Per-test browser launch options (#329):

@pytest.mark.parametrize(
    "browser_type_launch_args",
    [{"args": ["--lang=de-DE"]}],
    indirect=True,
)
def test_german(page):
    ...

Each distinct value launches its own browser; command line options such as --headed and --slowmo still apply.

Multi-browser parametrization fixes. Overriding the page fixture no longer drops --browser parametrization on older pytest versions (#314). browser_name is now parametrized indirectly, so tests keep their original order within a browser (#284).

VS Code debugger (#328). The browser is launched headed under the debugger only when a display is available. On Linux without DISPLAY or WAYLAND_DISPLAY set, it stays headless unless --headed is passed.

Breaking changes

  • pytest-base-url is now an optional dependency (#334). The plugin provides --base-url, the base_url ini option, the PYTEST_BASE_URL environment variable and the base_url fixture on its own. --verify-base-url needs the extra:

    pip install pytest-playwright[base-url]
  • Minimum pytest version is 7.0 for pytest-playwright and 8.2 for pytest-playwright-asyncio (#333).

  • python-slugify 9.x is now supported (#324).

Updates pytest-xdist to 3.8.0

Changelog

Sourced from pytest-xdist's changelog.

pytest-xdist 3.8.0 (2025-06-30)

Features

  • [#1083](https://github.com/pytest-dev/pytest-xdist/issues/1083) <https://github.com/pytest-dev/pytest-xdist/issues/1083>_: Add --no-loadscope-reorder and --loadscope-reorder option to control whether to automatically reorder tests in loadscope for tests where relative ordering matters. This only applies when using loadscope.

    For example, [test_file_1, test_file_2, ..., test_file_n] are given as input test files, if --no-loadscope-reorder is used, for either worker, the test_file_a will be executed before test_file_b only if a < b.

    The default behavior is to reorder the tests to maximize the number of tests that can be executed in parallel.

pytest-xdist 3.7.0 (2025-05-26)

Features

  • [#1142](https://github.com/pytest-dev/pytest-xdist/issues/1142) <https://github.com/pytest-dev/pytest-xdist/issues/1142>_: Added support for Python 3.13.

  • [#1144](https://github.com/pytest-dev/pytest-xdist/issues/1144) <https://github.com/pytest-dev/pytest-xdist/issues/1144>_: The internal steal command is now atomic - it unschedules either all requested tests or none.

    This is a prerequisite for group/scope support in the worksteal scheduler, so test groups won't be broken up incorrectly.

  • [#1170](https://github.com/pytest-dev/pytest-xdist/issues/1170) <https://github.com/pytest-dev/pytest-xdist/issues/1170>_: Add the --px arg to create proxy gateways.

    Proxy gateways are passed to additional gateways using the via keyword. They can serve as a way to run multiple workers on remote machines.

  • [#1200](https://github.com/pytest-dev/pytest-xdist/issues/1200) <https://github.com/pytest-dev/pytest-xdist/issues/1200>_: Now multiple xdist_group markers are considered when assigning tests to groups (order does not matter).

    Previously, only the last marker would assign a test to a group, but now if a test has multiple xdist_group marks applied (for example via parametrization or via fixtures), they are merged to make a new group.

Removals

  • [#1162](https://github.com/pytest-dev/pytest-xdist/issues/1162) <https://github.com/pytest-dev/pytest-xdist/issues/1162>_: Dropped support for EOL Python 3.8.

Trivial Changes

  • [#1092](https://github.com/pytest-dev/pytest-xdist/issues/1092) <https://github.com/pytest-dev/pytest-xdist/issues/1092>_: Update an error message to better indicate where users should go for more information.

  • [#1190](https://github.com/pytest-dev/pytest-xdist/issues/1190) <https://github.com/pytest-dev/pytest-xdist/issues/1190>_: Switched to using a SPDX license identifier introduced in PEP 639.

Updates pytest-rerunfailures to 16.7

Changelog

Sourced from pytest-rerunfailures's changelog.

16.7 (2026-09-17)

Features ++++++++

  • Allow configuring only_rerun regular expressions in pytest.ini files. ([#165](https://github.com/pytest-dev/pytest-rerunfailures/issues/165) <https://github.com/pytest-dev/pytest-rerunfailures/issues/165>_)
  • Show each rerun attempt and its final outcome in the rerun test summary info section. ([#191](https://github.com/pytest-dev/pytest-rerunfailures/issues/191) <https://github.com/pytest-dev/pytest-rerunfailures/issues/191>_)
  • Allow flaky marker conditions to inspect the exception that caused a failed test phase, including when running with pytest-xdist. ([#230](https://github.com/pytest-dev/pytest-rerunfailures/issues/230) <https://github.com/pytest-dev/pytest-rerunfailures/issues/230>_)

Bug Fixes +++++++++

  • Match only_rerun against the full exception chain (__cause__ and __context__), not only the outermost exception. Match rerun_except against explicit __cause__ links only, so implicit except / finally context does not suppress reruns. ([#353](https://github.com/pytest-dev/pytest-rerunfailures/issues/353) <https://github.com/pytest-dev/pytest-rerunfailures/issues/353>_)
  • Fix INTERNALERROR when only_rerun or rerun_except is given a bare exception class instead of a list. ([#362](https://github.com/pytest-dev/pytest-rerunfailures/issues/362) <https://github.com/pytest-dev/pytest-rerunfailures/issues/362>_)
  • Fix subtest reruns with newer pytest versions that use structured NodeId values internally. ([#363](https://github.com/pytest-dev/pytest-rerunfailures/issues/363) <https://github.com/pytest-dev/pytest-rerunfailures/issues/363>_)
  • Mark teardown failures from an attempt that is rerun as reruns, so a later successful attempt is not reported as an error. ([#366](https://github.com/pytest-dev/pytest-rerunfailures/issues/366) <https://github.com/pytest-dev/pytest-rerunfailures/issues/366>_)

Misc ++++

  • Keep the test suite passing when pytest-randomly is installed, including when the outer pytest is started with -p no:randomly. ([#218](https://github.com/pytest-dev/pytest-rerunfailures/issues/218) <https://github.com/pytest-dev/pytest-rerunfailures/issues/218>_)
  • Test the free-threaded Python 3.14 build in CI, via a new py314t tox environment and a matching workflow job. ([#361](https://github.com/pytest-dev/pytest-rerunfailures/issues/361) <https://github.com/pytest-dev/pytest-rerunfailures/issues/361>_)
