What counts

The app runs without admin rights and talks to the headset over its HID control channel, on Windows and on Linux. On Linux, the one thing that runs as root is a short command, started only when the person chooses Allow access and gives their password, which writes the headset's udev rule. The problems that matter most are ones that could:

  • send the headset a write outside the confirmed settings registry, or a value outside a setting's range, which the client is meant to refuse;
  • leave other applications' volumes turned down after the app exits, beyond what the volume journal restores;
  • let another program or user on the machine drive the app;
  • make the app's updater install something that is not a genuine release from this repository, or write outside the app's own folder;
  • make Allow access run anything but the udev rule, or have the rule grant more than the signed-in person's access to the headset.

A headset setting that simply does the wrong thing is a bug, not a security problem: please open an ordinary issue.
