📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

The eslint-config-next development dependency range in package.json changes from ^16.3.5 to ^16.3.8.

Changes

ESLint Config Dependency Update

Layer / File(s) Summary
Update the dependency range
package.json
The declared development dependency range for eslint-config-next changes from ^16.3.5 to ^16.3.8.

Priority: ⬇️ Low

Merge Risk

Merge Risk: ⚪ Minimal · up to c8540

This update raises only the minimum version of the lint configuration package and does not change runtime behavior. It is safe to merge. However, the security fixes cited in the release notes apply to the separate next runtime package, which is still on 16.3.5, so a follow-up next upgrade is still needed.

Security Architecture Review

Security architecture risk: 🔵 Low · up to c8540

This update changes development tooling, not the Next.js runtime carrying the reported security issue. No introduced or worsened architecture-level exposure was identified, but the existing issue remains and its production reachability is unknown.

Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The retained condition concerns the application's runtime framework rather than its ESLint configuration. The supplied security assessment leaves reachability and likelihood unknown, so deployed asset scope, attacker prerequisites, and downstream exposure cannot be quantified from this dependency comparison.

Security Findings and Attack Paths

  • observed — The canonical security assessment retains a reportable, high-severity finding concerning Next.js 16.3.5. That runtime version is present in both the comparison base and reviewed head. This is a pre-existing condition, not evidence that this PR introduced or worsened an attack path.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • inferred — Updating a separately resolved development configuration cannot be treated as remediation of runtime security controls. The unchanged runtime dependency is decisive counterevidence to interpreting the tooling release number as a runtime security upgrade.

Explanation

The description explains the three dependency updates and includes relevant release and security information. It does not follow the repository template because it omits the Summary, Changes, Verification, and Risk / deployment notes sections. It also provides no test results or completed verification checklist.

Resolution

Rewrite the description using the repository template. Include the change rationale, a Changes list, verification results or unchecked verification items, and Risk / deployment notes. Confirm whether the no-secrets check applies. Add the available test results or state that verification was not run and why.

Update the runtime next dependency to a patched release.

package.json declares next as ^16.3.5, and package-lock.json resolves it to 16.3.5, which is below the patched 16.3.6 release. The eslint-config-next update does not patch the separate runtime package. Update next and regenerate the lockfile.

Looks like these dependencies are updatable in another way, so this is no longer needed.
