FAQ
Yes: on the connection screen tap "Try the demo mode" (or enter DEMO as host and DEMO as password). The app fills up with sample data and every feature works, with no network connection. On Apple Vision Pro the demo button is in the top-right corner of the window. To leave the demo use Disconnect.
Three ways: the notarized DMG from the Releases (drag the app to Applications), Homebrew (brew install --cask sidimam/tap/amule-remote) or the Mac App Store. See Download.
Since 1.4 the app has no notification switches of its own: it asks for the system permission once (in the guided introduction, or when you select the Notifications › row in the app settings) and then sends every useful alert — download started/completed, server unreachable/reachable again, connection lost, eD2k/Kad drops and reconnections. If nothing arrives, check the state shown next to Notifications in the app settings: Not requested → select the row to get the system prompt; Off → the permission was denied, select the row to jump to the system Settings and allow it (iOS: Settings → aMule Remote → Notifications; Mac: System Settings → Notifications → aMule Remote); Summary → on iPhone/iPad the alerts are grouped in the Scheduled Summary, change it there if you want them immediately. eD2k/Kad disconnection alerts are sent only when the server's auto-reconnect is off — if amuled reconnects by itself there is nothing to report. On iOS, background checks depend on Background App Refresh and never run more often than every 15 minutes; Apple TV shows no notifications to apps.
More → About → Show the introduction again (iPhone, iPad, Vision Pro), Settings ⌘, → About (Mac) or Settings → About (Apple TV). The introduction also offers the iCloud backup restore and the notification consent, so it is the quickest way to set up a new device.
Make sure you are on a recent version. A long-fixed bug left the lists empty because concurrent EC requests overlapped. Update to the latest build.
Fixed in 1.2: the app now stops any stale search still open on the daemon before starting a new one. If you are on an older version, retry once or twice.
The app cannot resolve the server address (DNS error). The most common cause is a stray space at the beginning or end of the host (e.g. pasted with a leading space). The app trims spaces automatically; also check that the hostname is correct and reachable (VPN on if you are away from home).
If the server is unreachable, the connection times out after 12 seconds with an error message. If it stays stuck: check host, port and password, and that the server is reachable (VPN on if you are away from home).
On iOS, in More → Connection test, you can check whether the server's EC port (4712) answers and, optionally, whether a web server answers at a domain you enter (HTTPS or HTTP). Useful to tell network/VPN problems apart before even trying to log in. The test doesn't use the password: it only checks reachability.
ECPassword in amule.conf must contain the MD5 hash of the password, not the plain-text password. Regenerate it with:
echo -n "mypassword" | md5sumIn the app, enter the password in plain text (the app computes the hash itself). Use the eye icon in the password field to check what you typed.
The connect command targets the chosen server, but if that server is dead (not answering), it is amuled itself that falls back to another server ("Reconnect automatically" option). Choose servers with few errors and low ping, or disable automatic reconnection in aMule preferences → Connection (Mac app).
Since 1.3 the app no longer disconnects you after the idle period: it closes the connection to save battery and data but keeps the last data on screen, with an Offline · data updated at HH:MM banner. Tap or click anywhere (or press Reconnect) and the connection resumes. The same happens when the app goes to the background and comes back. Choose the idle period in App settings → Go offline after inactivity ("Never" keeps the connection always on; on the Mac this is the default).
On Apple TV make sure the app is at 1.4.2 or later: earlier tvOS builds were shipped without the iCloud entitlements and could not sync. If the walkthrough says No backup on iCloud although another device has sync on, wait a few seconds and use Search again; iCloud delivers the data asynchronously after an install, and the device must use the same iCloud account.
Turn on Sync profiles with iCloud in the app settings on one device: the profiles go to your iCloud account and the passwords to your iCloud Keychain (make sure iCloud Keychain is on in the system settings of each device, otherwise only the profiles arrive and you will be asked for the password once). On the other devices the connection screen offers Restore N profiles from iCloud. The sync is optional and can be turned off at any time; nothing is sent to the developer. It works on every official build (App Store, DMG, Homebrew); if the switch is greyed out you are running an unsigned local build.
Long-press the app icon on iPhone/iPad (Add eD2k link, Pause all, Resume all, Search). On the Mac right-click the Dock icon while the app is running, or use the Transfers menu (⌘L add link, ⇧⌘L add links from the Clipboard, ⌥⌘P pause all, ⌥⌘R resume all). Apple Vision Pro and Apple TV have no icon menu — use Siri / Shortcuts, which since 1.4 are available on every platform (see below).
Open the Shortcuts app and search for aMule Remote: status, download and upload speed, number of queued downloads, status / pause / resume / priority of a single download (by name), pause all, resume all, remove completed, add eD2k link(s), search files, connect / disconnect the eD2k server, start / stop Kad. They connect to your default server profile on their own, so they work with the app closed — on iPhone, iPad, Mac (Mac App Store build), Vision Pro and Apple TV. The DMG/Homebrew build is compiled with SwiftPM, which does not export the App Intents metadata, so the Shortcuts app does not list them there.
Yes. In the Add eD2k link sheet paste a list (one per line) or any text that contains the links — the app extracts every ed2k://|file|… link, tells you how many it found and queues them all. The Paste button reads the clipboard without the permission prompt; on the Mac the sheet pre-fills from the clipboard. A download's eD2k link can be shared to Notes, Messages or Mail from its context menu (Share eD2k link).
Normal amuled behavior (it removes completed files from the queue). The app keeps them visible client-side until you use "Remove completed" (✓ menu in Transfers).
That's a server configuration matter, not the app's: check the paths in aMule preferences → General → Folders on the server and the container mappings. See Server setup (Unraid/Docker section and the note about the temp folder on the cache).
Since 1.4 the setting is called App color and always tints the interface (buttons, links, toggles, selected tab) on every platform. The icon changes on iPhone, iPad and Apple Vision Pro (iOS 16+), and the Mac Dock icon follows while the app is running. Apple Watch always shows the original icon: watchOS offers no API for alternate icons. On the Mac, the icon shown in the Finder/Applications folder stays the original too; on Apple TV the icon never changes (only the colors do).
Fixed in 1.4.2: the walkthrough buttons are now reachable with the remote and the password field opens the keyboard (show/hide password moved to its own row). Update the Apple TV app from the App Store and reopen it.
Fixed in 1.4. The connection form, the Add link sheet and the search field now use a native text field that keeps the provisional text of the iPhone Apple TV Keyboard (and of dictation) until you finish editing. If you still see it, make sure the Apple TV app is at version 1.4 or later.
With a free Apple ID, apps installed from Xcode last 7 days. With the Apple Developer Program they last 1 year (and you can use TestFlight). The App Store version never expires. See Installing on iPhone and iPad.
When amuled is stopped (or the connection drops), the app notices, disconnects automatically and shows the "Server stopped" banner on the connection screen. This is expected: restart the server and press Connect again.
Fixed since build 11. The saved data is now read in a schema-change-resilient way: the history survives app updates and, when present, the one saved by earlier versions is recovered too.
In Transfers the app shows each download's age ("Age" column on the Mac, "N days" on iOS). Note: the count starts from when the app first saw the file, because the EC protocol doesn't provide the real creation date of the .part on the server.
No. The EC protocol is not encrypted. Use a VPN (WireGuard/Tailscale). See the security section in Server setup.
