Hively is a private, building-only marketplace for student accommodation. Residents of a building can buy and sell with each other — and only each other — inside a trusted, closed community scoped to where they actually live.
Status: MVP in development This repository is a public showcase describing the product. The real app, backend, and infrastructure are kept in a private repository.
Student accommodation is full of short-term residents who constantly need to buy and sell things — furniture, kitchenware, textbooks, event tickets — but existing marketplaces (Facebook groups, Depop, campus-wide boards) mix in strangers from across the city, making listings noisy and trust hard to establish.
Hively fixes this by scoping the marketplace to a single building. If you don't live there, you don't see it. Every listing, message, and transaction happens within a community of people who share a building — and often a corridor.
Hively uses role-based access control to keep each building's community well-moderated:
- Resident — can browse, list, buy, and sell within their own building
- Moderator — resident-level access plus the ability to moderate listings and manage disputes within their building
- Super admin — oversees multiple buildings, manages moderators, and handles platform-wide administration
| Layer | Technology |
|---|---|
| Frontend | Flutter (Android-first) |
| Backend | FastAPI |
| Database | Supabase |
Hively is seeking one London student accommodation building for a one-month free pilot. If you manage or live in a building and want early access, get in touch via the contact details below.
lib/listing_card.dart is a real, sanitized slice of
the app — the Listing data model and the ListingCard widget that renders each
listing in the feed, pulled directly from the private client and stripped of
anything sensitive (no keys, secrets, or real endpoint URLs). It's here to show
actual working code, not just a description.
The full Flutter client and FastAPI backend — auth, building-scoped access control, chat, moderation, and transactions — are kept in a private repository.
