[MCP-DIST-003] Publish ReplyNodes MCP to Smithery #12

Closed

Description

@replynodes-ai

Parent Epic: #8

Goal

Publish and verify ReplyNodes MCP on Smithery so developers and AI agents can discover ReplyNodes by capability, not only by brand name.

Canonical inputs

  • Production MCP endpoint: https://mcp.replynodes.com/mcp
  • Repository: https://github.com/replynodes/replynodes-mcp
  • Official MCP Registry namespace: com.replynodes/mcp
  • Existing Smithery manifest in this repo: smithery.yaml

Current state (verified)

  • https://smithery.ai/server/com.replynodes/mcp returns HTTP 200 but renders 404: Server Not Found or Removed → no live Smithery listing today.

Required work

  1. Research Smithery's current MCP server submission and ownership-claim flow before acting.
  2. Submit ReplyNodes as a remote/streamable-HTTP MCP server using the production endpoint.
  3. Prefer the existing public GitHub repo and the existing smithery.yaml where the platform supports it.
  4. Claim/verify ownership where Smithery supports it.
  5. Complete title, description, categories/tags, repo link, docs link, and install/connect instructions.
  6. Optimize metadata for capability discovery, including terms such as:
    • web search MCP
    • web scraping MCP
    • website crawl MCP
    • Reddit MCP
    • YouTube MCP
    • App Store MCP
    • brand intelligence MCP
    • public web data MCP
    • context API for AI agents
  7. Run Smithery health/validation checks if available.
  8. Fix reasonable repo/listing metadata issues that block publication.
  9. Verify the public listing is live.
  10. Test Smithery search using multiple non-brand capability queries, not only ReplyNodes.
  11. Record the final public Smithery listing URL and verification evidence in this issue.

Base description

Use/adapt this where appropriate:

ReplyNodes is a read-only MCP server for AI agents that provides Web Search, Web Scraping, Website Crawling, Reddit, YouTube, App Store, Brand Intelligence, and other public web/data APIs through one MCP endpoint.

Do not invent capabilities that are not live in production.

Agent autonomy

Complete all actions autonomously using available access. Only ask the owner when Smithery requires an action that cannot reasonably be delegated, such as:

  • OAuth/login approval
  • CAPTCHA
  • DNS verification
  • account ownership confirmation
  • organization-owner permission

When blocked, ask for exactly one concrete owner action and then continue.

Definition of Done

  • Public Smithery listing exists
  • Listing points to the correct production MCP endpoint and repository
  • Ownership is claimed/verified where supported
  • Relevant metadata/categories/tags are complete
  • Health/validation checks pass, or non-blocking warnings are documented
  • Listing has been tested with non-brand capability searches
  • Final Smithery URL is posted in this issue

Do not mark complete merely because the submission form was sent. Completion requires verifying the live Smithery listing.

    Submission attempt + result (2026-09-16)

Researched the live Smithery platform before acting. Summary:

    • Every Smithery publish path is auth-gated and returns 401 Missing authentication token without a Smithery account/session:
      • REST API: PUT /namespaces/com.replynodes, PUT /servers/com.replynodes%2Fmcp, PUT /servers/com.replynodes%2Fmcp/releases, POST /tokens — all 401 without Bearer token.
      • CLI smithery v4.11.1: smithery mcp publish requires smithery auth login (interactive OAuth, not automatable headless). smithery auth status is unauthenticated.
      • Web: sign-in gated; the documented /new entrypoint is not served at that path right now.
    • Namespace com.replynodes does not exist on Smithery; server com.replynodes/mcp does not exist.
    • No unauthenticated submission, claim, or publish path exists.

    What was verified live (sanitized)

    • https://mcp.replynodes.com/mcp — HTTPS 200 (nginx/1.24.0). MCP initialize → 200 (replynodes-fetcher, 2024-11-05, tools capability). tools/list → 200, read-only tools across web_search, webcontext/scrape/crawl/brand, brand, reddit, youtube, appstore, googleplay, hackernews. Scan-friendly; no auth header required for initialize/tools/list.
    • https://smithery.ai/server/com.replynodes/mcp — 404 "Server Not Found".
    • https://smithery.ai/server/@replynodes/mcp — 200 but a 188-byte Next.js catch-all 404 page, NOT a live listing.
    • Non-brand Smithery searches (reddit, youtube, hackernews, web search, web scraping, brand intelligence, app store, context api for ai agents, data api for ai agents) — all surface competitors; discovery value confirmed.

    Repo changes (PR #20)

    • smithery.yaml — added deploy: remote block for the canonical endpoint so the repo is submit-ready once a Smithery token is available. Existing stdio bridge retained.
    • README.md — corrected Smithery row from "Live listing" to "Not listed (blocked) — see issue [MCP-DIST-003] Publish ReplyNodes MCP to Smithery #12".
    • artifacts/issue-12-smithery-submission-evidence.md — full research record.

What could NOT be done autonomously (blocker)

Submission/claim on Smithery requires an owner Smithery account session
(OAuth/login, possibly CAPTCHA), for every path (API, CLI, web). This cannot be
    done headless from this environment.

    One concrete owner action

Sign in to Smithery, then either:

    • smithery auth login + smithery mcp publish https://mcp.replynodes.com/mcp -n com.replynodes/mcp, or
    • use the Smithery web publish flow, entering https://mcp.replynodes.com/mcp, and complete metadata (title "ReplyNodes", description per issue [MCP-DIST-003] Publish ReplyNodes MCP to Smithery #12 base text, categories/tags web-search / web-scraping / website-crawl / reddit / youtube / app-store / brand-intelligence / public-web-data / context-api-for-ai-agents, repo https://github.com/replynodes/replynodes-mcp, install instructions in the evidence artifact).

Then verify the live listing, endpoint, repo link, health/connect, and non-brand capability searches. When live, the README Smithery row can be changed back to "Live listing" with the real URL.

    Smithery publish update (2026-09-16)

Owner OAuth completed successfully via smithery auth login (namespace replynodes).

    • Publish accepted: replynodes/mcp
    • Release with config schema: 9e3089e4-0866-4b03-8223-35143fe8a32f
    • Status URL: https://smithery.ai/servers/replynodes/mcp/releases
    • Current status: PENDING / Smithery scan in progress
    • Scan reached the canonical endpoint and retrieved replynodes-fetcher, 51 tools; config schema was supplied for REPLYNODES_API_KEY.
    • Smithery registry search does not yet return replynodes/mcp; therefore no public live listing is claimed yet.
    • The former @replynodes/mcp URL remains a 404 catch-all, so there was no old live listing to delete.

PR #20 remains the submit-ready repo change (CI green, not merged): #20. Final completion still requires Smithery to finish the release and a public listing/health/search verification.

    Issue #12 execution update (2026-09-17)

    Production source / PR

    • Isolated from freshly fetched origin/main; unrelated dirty worktrees preserved.
    • Review-ready gateway PR: https://github.com/replynodes/replynodes-fetcher/pull/368
    • Head: a97a239ef295efee0dba5b65e7b85ce71b97a5fc
    • Scope: public GET /.well-known/mcp/server-card.json, generated from the existing MCPTools() inventory used by tools/list; no tool renames or API behavior changes.
    • Tests: go build ./..., go vet ./..., gofmt gate, go test ./..., go test -race ./..., all repository validate scripts, and secret scan passed.

    Smithery existing listing

    • Existing qualified name updated in place through the authenticated official CLI; no new server/listing created.
    • Accepted release: 2cfa6bf7-c792-4e3e-8b94-aeb460690fc9
    • Status: PENDING; status URL: https://smithery.ai/servers/replynodes/mcp/releases
    • Scan evidence: connected to the live endpoint, identified replynodes-fetcher version dev, and found 51 tools. It reported resources/prompts unsupported, consistent with the intended read-only card.
    • Current public page after submission still shows title mcp, no description in rendered markdown, quality 45/100 (before 45/100; after 45/100), 51 tools, and Smithery proxy endpoint https://mcp--replynodes.run.tools. Metadata improvement is not claimed until the release completes.
    • Config schema submitted for apiKey only; no free-request/no-card claim was made.

    Discovery searches

Official smithery --json mcp search, page 1 (10 results each): ReplyNodes was not present for any requested query:

    • web search — nearby: brave, keenable/web-search, exa
    • web search for AI agents — nearby: groundroute-ai/web-search, parallel/search, jina
    • web scraping — nearby: ScrapeGraphAI/scrapegraph-mcp, brightdata, apify
    • scrape website — brightdata, Decodo/decodo-mcp-server, ScrapeGraphAI/scrapegraph-mcp
    • website crawler — nimble/nimble-mcp, brightdata, enoki/open-for-agents-website-visibility
    • Reddit search/research — consensus, pkobielak/social-superpowers, Tavily
    • YouTube data — tubealfred/youtube, tubask/YouTube-mcp, OjasKord/data-compliance-mcp
    • App Store reviews/research — support-uo5g/appsigma-aso, trysonar/sonar, appskyline/appskyline
    • brand intelligence/research — dimitry/parse-mcp, adology/marketing-intelligence, optimly/scout
    • public data/public data MCP — gstcranes/public-discovery, sam-6r21/ruagentic, oga-surf-project/verify-gate

    Deployment blocker / live evidence

    • https://mcp.replynodes.com/mcp initialize: HTTP success, server replynodes-fetcher, version dev, tools capability.
    • tools/list: 51 tools; live tool annotations are read-only.
    • https://mcp.replynodes.com/.well-known/mcp/server-card.json: HTTP 404 (expected until PR is independently reviewed, merged, and deployed).
    • Production deployment was not claimed. The documented workflow requires the selected 40-character SHA to be merged into main; PR #368 is open. Local deploy inputs (DEPLOY_HOST, DEPLOY_USER, SSH key/known-hosts) are also unavailable in this session.
    • Required owner/reviewer action: independently review and merge PR #368, then dispatch the documented production workflow for SHA a97a239ef295efee0dba5b65e7b85ce71b97a5fc. After systemd + HTTP evidence, rerun the same in-place Smithery publish and verify title, description, trust metadata, score, canonical endpoint/card, and search ranks.

Correction to the live probe evidence: POST https://mcp.replynodes.com/mcp tools/list returned HTTP 200, content-type application/json, X-Request-Id edbc79ed-6947-4039-8ea5-2a44f30e7838, and 51 tools. The server-card probe returned HTTP 404. No production deploy or live card claim is made.
