copy(blog): dated correction notes on FSMA 204 enforcement date - #3671
Blogs: dated correction notes (Oct 26, 2026) on the FSMA 204 enforcement date.
Requested by Legal: Lead Counsel (memo fsma204-status-and-copy-flags). Compliance date stays Jan 20, 2026 (87 FR 70910); FDA has said it will not enforce before July 20, 2028 per a Congressional directive.
Four blog pages add or update information about FDA’s stated non-enforcement date of July 20, 2028. The updates distinguish that date from the rule’s January 20, 2026 compliance date and state that the proposed extension has not been finalized. Page metadata, structured descriptions, and introductory text are also revised.
Search results and page previews may still present July 2028 as a firm compliance deadline.

Callout is already imported in fda-food-traceability-requirements/page.tsx:7 and fsma-204-compliance-guide/page.tsx:7. The diff adds the import to the two files that need it: checklist and mid-market.
tone="info" is a valid CalloutTone (components/ui/callout.tsx:18).
All JSX opening and closing tags match. The string literals are single-quoted, and the new text has no apostrophes, so none of them break.
The diff makes no logic, routing, or data changes, and nothing outside the copy changed.
Legal accuracy: meets all three criteria.
2028: The new copy never calls 2028 the compliance date. Every added sentence calls it the date before which FDA "will not enforce." The callout says the compliance date is still January 20, 2026 (87 FR 70910) and that 90 FR 38084 has not been finalized. The old "July 2028 deadline" descriptions in the checklist and guide metadata, OpenGraph, JSON-LD and header are fixed.
21 CFR 1.1300 and hashing: The diff doesn't touch either, so it adds nothing new under those two criteria.
Non-blocking issues to fix in a follow-up:
Checklist title still says "Actionable Steps for July 2028" (fsma-204-compliance-checklist-2026/page.tsx:12, 17). It doesn't call 2028 the compliance date, but it still reads like a deadline in search results.
Checklist line 336: "stay on schedule for July 2028" also reads like a deadline. Same fix.
The mid-market intro no longer flows. The new sentence "FDA has said it will not enforce… directive." is followed by "But implementing it right…". Nothing in that sentence sets up "But". Suggested fix: "…following a Congressional directive. That gives you time, but implementing it right…"
The same fact appears several times on the same pages. The checklist now states the enforcement posture in the header description, the callout and the intro paragraph (line 49). The guide and FDA pages already had a mid-page Callout and intro text saying the same thing. This is accurate, just repetitive.
The "Correction" label is a stretch on two pages. The FDA and guide pages already stated the January 2026 date and the 2028 non-enforcement position correctly in the body (lines 66 and 50). Calling the new box a "Correction" suggests those pages had it wrong. "Update" would be more accurate there.
I did not run npm run lint or npm run build. The diff is not applied in this checkout (wt-legal-copy, branch codex/legal-hashing-qualifiers), so I checked it against the files as they stand.

Minor · Functional Correctness · Quick win
Remove the July 2028 deadline framing from the titles.
The updated description correctly distinguishes the July 20, 2028 non-enforcement date. The metadata title and Open Graph title still say “Actionable Steps for July 2028”. This can present July 2028 as a firm compliance target.
Rename both titles to describe preparation before enforcement resumes. The PR objective requires metadata that does not imply a firm July 2028 compliance deadline.

The correction callouts on fda-food-traceability-requirements, fsma-204-compliance-checklist-2026, fsma-204-compliance-guide and fsma-204-mid-market-guide (page.tsx ~L47) use the same sourced wording (87 FR 70910, 90 FR 38084). They add no new data or claims, and the added lines have no em or en dashes.
Callout imports were added where they were missing (checklist-2026, mid-market). CI is green apart from the non-required visual-report.
Non-blocking nit: in fsma-204-mid-market-guide/page.tsx ~L56, "But implementing it right" now follows a sentence about FDA enforcement, so "it" reads awkwardly. Consider "Implementing FSMA 204 right". Non-blocking: the checklist-2026 title still says "Actionable Steps for July 2028". That wording was already on main and is outside this diff's changes.
