fix(frontend): ErrorState with requestId on dashboard pages (SEL-410) - #3621
/dashboard/agent-reviews via AgentReviewDashboard (review, confirmed)
/dashboard/settings billing via useCurrentSubscription (confirmed)
Also: /dashboard/recall-report, /review (CuratorReview).
SEL-409 frontend: /records error is "We could not load your records." with Retry and Contact support (existing /settings/support link). No backend files touched.
Tests: api-error helpers, alerts copy + requestId, products header requestId, QA health requestId, records copy. Mocked failures only, no sample data.
Low Risk
Observability and UX-only error handling across proxies and dashboard pages; no auth or data-model changes, with broad test coverage for header passthrough and safe error copy.
Overview
Wires backend correlation IDs end-to-end so failed loads can show Request ID in the shared ErrorState (retry + contact support).
Proxy / API routes: JSON and stream proxies now forward upstream x-request-id (and Retry-After on 429s) on success, client errors, and sanitized 5xx rebuilds; proxyError can emit x-request-id when provided. The review queue route copies the admin service request ID on both errors and transformed success payloads.
Client errors:lib/api-error gains requestIdFromResponse, withRequestId, getErrorRequestId, and getErrorRetryAfter; fetch layers (api-hooks, review/agent/billing/control-plane hooks, page-level fetchers) attach IDs from response headers. Dashboard surfaces (alerts, products, audit log, compliance, notifications, QA health, recall report, settings billing, agent/curator review) pass requestId into ErrorState. Alerts moves from a plain callout to the same error pattern.
Records (SEL-409/410):/records uses ErrorState with fixed copy (no raw backend detail), safe 429 messaging (optional “Retry in N seconds”), and request ID when present.
Tests cover proxy header passthrough, api-error helpers, dashboard/alerts request IDs, and records rate-limit behavior.

Alerts page uses ErrorState with real refetch; request IDs from x-request-id flow to ErrorState on eight dashboard pages; records page copy per SEL-409 frontend.

It looks like this branch is under active development. To avoid overwhelming you with review comments due to an influx of new commits, CodeRabbit has automatically paused this review. You can configure this behavior by changing the reviews.auto_review.auto_pause_after_reviewed_commits setting.
The shared API error utilities now extract request IDs and retry delays from supported response and error shapes. API fetch paths attach request IDs to errors, and frontend error states pass available IDs for display. Proxy routes preserve upstream request IDs when available. The alerts page uses the shared error state with retry and fetching status. The records page uses safe error messages and displays retry delays for eligible 429 errors. Tests cover extraction, forwarding, display, and retry behavior.
Some proxy failures and successful responses may lose diagnostic request IDs, while rare malformed retry headers can show misleading wait times. These are low-impact but should be corrected.

observed — Modified behavior in frontend/src/tests/pages/sel409-load-errors.test.tsx: The records-load test now checks the records-specific alert instead of Load failed, verifies the support link to /settings/support and absence of a request ID, and asserts that clicking Retry calls failed.refetch once. Explanation
The title names the change: adding request ID display to ErrorState on dashboard pages, with the SEL-410 ticket reference. It is specific and matches the changeset, which adds request-ID propagation through hooks, proxies, and page fetchers. The title omits the records copy change (SEL-409) and the proxy-layer header passthrough, but those are secondary to the main change.
Full details: Description check
Explanation
The description follows the template's main sections loosely. It has a Changes section and a Tests bullet, and it lists local verification results (tsc, lint, vitest). It does not include the template's Summary bullets, the Type of Change checkboxes, the Test Plan checkboxes, the Checklist, or the Related Issues section. The Linear link covers the issue reference, but the template's Related Issues format is not used. The description is mostly complete in substance, so the check passes, with the missing template sections noted for the author.

Codex review of 51c6887 (SEL-410). Local: tsc, lint, vitest all pass.
Blocking:
Request IDs never reach the browser in production. requestIdFromResponse/withRequestId (frontend/src/lib/api-error.ts:39-62, api-hooks.ts:104-113) read x-request-id from the browser Response, but the ingestion/admin proxy response-header allowlist omits it (frontend/src/lib/proxy-factory.ts:246) and upstream 5xx replies are rebuilt via proxyError without it (proxy-factory.ts:415, lib/api-proxy.ts:220). review/items route also builds a fresh response (app/api/review/items/route.ts:39). So ErrorState's 'Request ID' line will not show for the failures it targets. Pass a validated opaque ID through on failed responses and test across the proxy boundary.
Real-data rule: new tests use invented literal IDs ('req-1', 'req-2', 'alerts-req-1', 'products-req-1', 'qa-req-9') in tests/lib/api-error.test.ts:16-42 and tests/pages/dashboard-load-errors.test.tsx:100-126. Use crypto.randomUUID() and assert on the generated value.
Non-blocking: copy is restrained; the displayed ID comes from a header, not an error body, so no leak seen. records/page.tsx:96 now hides the underlying message (fine, matches other pages).
…st IDs
Addresses Codex review on #3621: allowlist x-request-id, keep it on 5xx proxy rebuilds and review/items responses, replace invented test IDs with crypto.randomUUID().

Forward Retry-After on review-item rate limits.
When /api/review/items receives a 429 with Retry-After, this branch rebuilds the response and forwards only x-request-id. The client therefore loses the retry delay, so the records page cannot show the upstream rate-limit guidance. Copy retry-after alongside x-request-id; the existing client handling requires no other change.

Preserve x-request-id on refused redirects.
When the upstream returns a 3xx response with a non-empty x-request-id, this branch returns proxyError without that ID. The local 502 response therefore loses request-ID metadata. Pass the upstream header at this branch. This correction is separate from the JSON-success and streaming-redirect branches.

Preserve x-request-id on streaming redirect errors.
When the upstream streaming response has status 300–399, this branch returns proxyError without the upstream x-request-id. The local 502 response therefore omits metadata that other proxy error paths preserve.
