The book's order-book figures drew accounts created from client key pairs as offcurve dots captioned A CLIENT KEYPAIR. The placement said "no private key" and the words said "a private key" about the same address, and the words called the key pair an address, which it is not.

DIAGRAMS.md

  • An address made from a key pair sits on the curve like a wallet's, r="6", with no seeds, whoever generated the pair.
  • The radius says what the placement says: r="6" on the curve, r="5.5" off it. The book's geometry check fails a figure where the two disagree.
  • No caption ever names a key pair.
  • Such an account's box hugs its dot like any other. When the column under the curve is taken, the box goes above the curve in the open top-right, where a mint's box would, and mints that are named only as seeds and fields move to a not-drawn note. A dot is never named on the curve with its box somewhere below. The book's geometry check fails any address dot more than 20 units from an account box.
  • The "Do not use" list gains key-pair captions and offcurve key-pair addresses.

SKILL.md

  • The public key is the address. The key pair is neither an address nor an account, and only a PDA is off the curve.
  • Never write "a keypair address", "the keypair's account", or "an off-curve keypair".

This branch is rebased on current main. An earlier revision on it let a curve dot carry its account's name when the box couldn't reach the curve. That device is gone, and the rule now requires the box beside the dot.

The book changes that apply these rules are in quicknode/solana-book#149.

…n address

The book's order-book figures drew four accounts created from client key
pairs as offcurve dots captioned "A CLIENT KEYPAIR": the placement said "no
private key" and the words said "a private key" about the same address, and
the words called the key pair an address, which it is not.

DIAGRAMS.md now says that an address made from a key pair sits on the curve
like a wallet's, r=6, with no seeds, whoever generated the pair; that the
radius and the placement encode the same thing and the book's geometry
check fails them when they disagree; how such a dot is named when its box
cannot reach the curve; and how a figure with no cluster curve draws one on
a piece of curve. SKILL.md's terminology gains the vocabulary rule: the
public key is the address, the pair is neither an address nor an account,
and only a PDA is off the curve.

The first rule for accounts created from key pairs let a dot on the curve
carry its account's name when the box hung too far below to reach it. In
the order-book figures that left four dots 300 units from the accounts
they stood for, which is the separation the dot-beside-its-box rules
exist to prevent.

The rule now says the box hugs its dot like any other: when the column
under the curve is taken, it goes above the curve in the open top-right,
where a mint's box would, and the mints those figures name only as seeds
and fields are named in a not-drawn note to make room. The book's
geometry check now fails any address dot more than 20 from an account
box. The rule for drawing a public key on a piece of curve in a figure
with no cluster curve goes too: its one example, the order book's base
vault, is now a PDA of the market.
