PM Pro is a VS Code/Code-OSS based MVP for product managers writing PRDs.
The current implementation is a VS Code extension that can later be bundled as a built-in extension inside a Code-OSS desktop fork, matching the Cursor-style architecture: Electron desktop shell, VS Code workbench, and product-specific AI editing workflow layered on top.
- Open a workspace in VS Code or Code-OSS.
- Create or open a Markdown PRD.
- Put local context files under
knowledge/. - Select text, or leave the selection empty for whole-document context.
- Run
PM Pro: Propose AI Edit. - Inspect the generated full-document diff.
- Run
PM Pro: Apply ProposalorPM Pro: Reject Proposal. - Save the Markdown PRD normally through VS Code.
The extension defaults to mock so the full diff/apply loop works without credentials.
Settings:
pmpro.aiProvider:mock,claude-code, orcodex-clipmpro.claudeCommand: defaultclaudepmpro.codexCommand: defaultcodexpmpro.aiTimeoutMs: default120000
Claude Code uses claude -p. Codex CLI uses codex exec.
npm install
npm run build
npm test
npm run package
npm run package:desktopThe packaged extension is written to pmpro-0.1.0.vsix.
To run in a VS Code Extension Development Host, open this repo in VS Code and launch Run PM Pro Extension.
For the independent desktop product path, internal MVP builds can be distributed unsigned. See docs/internal-desktop-distribution.md for the certificate decision, expected platform warnings, and internal release checklist.
npm run package:desktop stages a Cursor-style desktop distribution under out/desktop/:
out/desktop/extensions/contains bundled third-party VSIX files. The PM Pro extension itself is not bundled for now.out/desktop/settings/default-settings.jsoncontains product defaults, currently pointing PM Pro at Codex CLI.out/desktop/reports/agents-report.jsonrecords whethercodexandclaudeare available on the build machine.out/desktop/macos/andout/desktop/windows/are the target locations for final Code-OSS/VSCodium installers.
Marketplace VSIX files are cached under .pmpro-cache/extensions/; repeated desktop packaging reuses the cached file unless it is missing or invalid.
To prepare a local Code-OSS/VSCodium source checkout with PM Pro branding and bundled third-party extensions:
VSCODE_DIR=/path/to/vscode npm run prepare:codeossThis installs bundled third-party extensions, writes product.overrides.json, and stores desktop staging metadata under .pmpro/.
