We investigate the biological factors that determine the onset of hereditary breast cancer and translate these findings into mechanism-based, personalized prevention/interception strategies, with a particular focus on BRCA1/2-associated disease.
Dr. Miquel Angel Pujana is Senior Researcher at the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO), where he leads the Breast Cancer Group within the ProCURE Program, and Principal Investigator at IDIBELL (Barcelona) and IDIBGI (Girona). His research focus is on hereditary breast cancer, investigating BRCA1/2-associated breast cancer from genetic, molecular, cellular, preclinical, and translational perspectives.
His research integrates functional genomics, experimental cancer biology, genetically engineered mouse models, and clinically annotated patient cohorts to elucidate the earliest determinants of breast tumorigenesis and evolution, and to translate these discoveries into mechanism-based interception strategies. The group has contributed to understanding the genetic architecture of breast cancer risk, BRCA1/2 function, tumor initiation, immune evasion, and genetic risk modification.
He is an active contributor to the international Consortium of Investigators of Modifiers of BRCA1/2 (CIMBA).

- Personalized prevention/interception strategies, including drug repurposing
- Genetic and inherited modifiers of hereditary cancer risk
- Precision genomics and risk estimation for breast and ovarian cancer
- Functional genomics and genetically engineered mouse models
The group also investigates the biology and therapeutic vulnerabilities of lymphangioleiomyomatosis, a metastatic rare disease with biological similarities to breast cancer.
