Align the Bluefin AI tools bundle with Agent Mode #1164

Description

Parent

projectbluefin/chairlift#252

What to build

Update Bluefin's optional AI tools bundle to match the Agent Mode product contract: llmman is the local inference runtime, Goose is the GUI troubleshooting client, Oh My Pi is the configured shell, linux-mcp-server supplies read-only diagnostic tools, and Jan is the chat application.

Remove RamaLama from new bundle installations. This is package inventory cleanup, not migration of an existing user's service or model cache. Add the packaged OMP formula after ublue-os/homebrew-tap#686 lands. Keep the existing llmman, Goose, linux-mcp-server, and Jan entries.

Acceptance criteria

  • The AI tools bundle installs llmmanorg/tap/llmman, the packaged OMP formula, ublue-os/tap/linux-mcp-server, ublue-os/tap/goose-linux, and ai.jan.Jan.
  • RamaLama is absent from the bundle and from current Bluefin Agent Mode documentation.
  • Automated bundle tests assert the complete required inventory in both directions so additions/removals cannot silently drift.
  • The bundle remains user-scoped and introduces no privileged install route.
  • Existing installations are not automatically uninstalled or migrated.

Blocked on external dependency — ublue-os/homebrew-tap#686 ("Package Oh My Pi for Bluefin Agent Mode").

    Precondition & Dependency Analysis

Issue #1164 directs updating Bluefin's AI tools bundle to match the Agent Mode contract:

"Add the packaged OMP formula after ublue-os/homebrew-tap#686 lands. Keep the existing llmman, Goose, linux-mcp-server, and Jan entries."
    "## Blocked by
    • ublue-os/homebrew-tap#686"

    The acceptance criteria explicitly require:

    1. "The AI tools bundle installs llmmanorg/tap/llmman, the packaged OMP formula, ublue-os/tap/linux-mcp-server, ublue-os/tap/goose-linux, and ai.jan.Jan."
    2. "RamaLama is absent from the bundle and from current Bluefin Agent Mode documentation."
    3. "Automated bundle tests assert the complete required inventory in both directions so additions/removals cannot silently drift."

Current Status on GitHub (as of 2026-09-23)

    • Issue ublue-os/homebrew-tap#686 remains open with no associated pull requests or merged changes.
    • ublue-os/homebrew-tap/Formula/ contains four formulas (bluefin-review.rb, heic-to-dynamic-gnome-wallpaper.rb, linux-mcp-server.rb, pmbootstrap.rb) and does not contain an Oh My Pi (omp / oh-my-pi) formula.
    • Per AGENTS.md ("What agents must not touch"), ublue-os/* repositories are strictly read-only for agents ("Any ublue-os/* repository (read-only; no writes of any kind)"). The formula cannot be created or published from this repository or task.
    • Declaring the unreleased formula in system_files/shared/usr/share/ublue-os/homebrew/ai-tools.Brewfile prior to publication in ublue-os/tap would fail CI Homebrew validation (scripts/validate-brewfiles.sh) and break user installations (brew bundle).
    • Complete bidirectional inventory tests cannot be asserted until the official formula name and package are established in ublue-os/tap.

    Next Steps

When ublue-os/homebrew-tap#686 lands and publishes the OMP formula:

    1. Update system_files/shared/usr/share/ublue-os/homebrew/ai-tools.Brewfile to remove brew "ramalama" and add the packaged OMP formula from ublue-os/tap.
    2. Add automated bidirectional bundle inventory tests asserting the five required Agent Mode components.
    3. Validate against scripts/validate-brewfiles.sh and test_ujust.bats.

Covered by PR #1204 (open, base main).

    Done in #1204:

    • Removes ramalama from the opt-in ai-tools.Brewfile (inventory cleanup for new installs; the bundle is user-scoped via ujust install-ai-tools, so existing installs are neither uninstalled nor migrated).
    • Keeps llmman, ublue-os/tap/linux-mcp-server, ublue-os/tap/goose-linux, and ai.jan.Jan.
    • Adds tests/test_ai_tools_brewfile.bats asserting the required Agent Mode inventory in both directions and registers it in just test.

Still blocked (external, per the issue): the packaged Oh My Pi formula, waiting on ublue-os/homebrew-tap#686. The brew line and its test assertion are added in the same follow-up once #686 lands.
