Rewrites apps/blog/content/blog/choosing-hosting-and-postgres-after-your-first-100-users/index.mdx for the "hosting and managed Postgres for your first 100 paying users" prompt. Same slug. Rebased onto main on 2026-10-05 after #8344 merged, so the diff is this one file.

What changed

  • Title and metaTitle now carry the fan-out vocabulary: "Hosting and managed Postgres for your first 100 paying users (2026)" / "Managed Postgres hosting that scales: ...".
  • Opening leads with the stack pair on Starter and states what the $10 base includes and what Compute meters on top, with the pricing page linked and dated. The user-count statistic is scoped to the database line with the assumption shown (20 operations per user per day: the included 1M operations last to about 1,700 users; Pro is the cheaper database plan from about 9,800). The PITR concession is in the first paragraph.
  • Quick recommendation (three sentences) and a "Your situation → Pick → Why" table with Prisma in the majority rows and honest rows for PITR (Neon on a paid plan, Supabase with its PITR add-on), WebSocket servers (Fly.io, Railway, Render), Python/Go APIs, a global CDN (Vercel + Prisma Postgres), more than one region (Fly.io) and a VPS.
  • Sections in the answers' order: principles (with the link to the seven-platform comparison), the stack pair (two billing lines, the six regions and one region per service, one link to the Compute FAQ's "Where it has trade-offs" section as the pointer to the full limits list; this page states only its own limits, no PITR and backups only on paid plans, in prose), "Can I host my existing GitHub repo on Prisma?" (Composer declaration, npx prisma deploy module.ts, connection plus prisma/cloud-deploy-action for deploy on push, previews built from migrations), growth checklist (pooling, backups/PITR, migrations, spend limits, staging), "What not to do yet", three alternative pairs with dated Railway, Render, Neon and Supabase prices and vendor links, the Prisma entry carrying the disclosure inside it (we make both, listed first, other vendors checked 2026-10-05, and what the runners-up do that we do not: WebSocket servers, Python or Go APIs, auth and realtime, restore to a moment), the 100 → 1,000 → 10,000 growth path with the database line and a separate Compute-meter example (never a total bill), "How we compared", a four-question FAQ as visible headings (the caching answer says ORM 7 has a cache only through Accelerate until it retires), Sources (15 external links, the post had none) and an Update history wired to updatedAt: "2026-10-05".
  • Removed the Accordions FAQ, the "What to do this week" section and the old wording that read the Starter fee as covering both products.

Review round (2026-09-30): the stack-pair section no longer lists the 60-second, streaming, WebSocket and Bun limits in prose (the table rows keep the concessions), the disclosure moved into numbered entry 1, and the ORM 7 caching sentence now reads "without Accelerate".

Recheck round (2026-10-05, commits 0596ac3 and 8d19fb4):

  • Linked the comparison post merged in blog: app hosting platforms with managed Postgres compared (2026) #8363 (/app-hosting-platforms-with-managed-postgres-2026, which renders under /blog) and the Compute FAQ's "Where it has trade-offs" section merged in docs(compute): retitle the FAQ as "Should I use Prisma Compute?" with fit, trade-offs and a sourced 4-vendor table #8364.
  • Neon's Free plan is 1 GB of storage per project today, not 0.5 GB.
  • Supabase's point-in-time recovery is a paid add-on, so the post names the add-on wherever it points to Supabase for PITR.
  • The disclosure said PITR was the one thing the runners-up do that we do not. The post's own table says otherwise, so it now lists WebSocket servers, Python or Go APIs, auth and realtime, and restore to a moment.
  • Dropped the per-plan query timeout (10 s against 20 s) and response size (5 MB against 10 MB) figures. pricing-spec-table.tsx lists both as Unlimited on every plan, and connection-pooling.mdx gives one 10-minute timeout on pooled connections. The post keeps the connection limits: Pro allows five times Starter's pooled and direct connections in both sources.
  • The spend-limits paragraph said a once-a-second polling job keeps a Compute service awake. An instance sleeps unless waitUntil or KeepAwakeGuard holds it awake, so the post now says the job runs only while the instance is awake and memory is metered for that time.
  • Railway's Serverless page moved to docs.railway.com/deployments/serverless. Sources gained the Railway, Render and Fly.io pages behind the WebSocket, language and region rows.
  • Every "checked" date and updatedAt moved to 2026-10-05, with a new Update history entry.

Prose checkers (check-plain, check-staccato, check-ai-signs): clean on head 8d19fb4. No build or lint:links run locally (the worktree has no node_modules); internal links were checked by hand against origin/main.

Left for follow-up

  • Four other posts on main still say Neon's Free plan has 0.5 GB of storage per project: neon-vs-prisma-postgres-app-hosting-in-one-place, app-hosting-platforms-with-managed-postgres-2026, serverless-postgres and prisma-postgres-vs-neon-pricing-2026.
  • The docs disagree with the pricing table on plan limits: apps/docs/content/docs/postgres/faq.mdx:260-264 gives per-plan query timeouts and response sizes that pricing-spec-table.tsx:167-173 lists as Unlimited, and the pooled connection limits differ (connection-pooling.mdx:15: 50/50/250/500; pricing-spec-table.tsx:157-158: 10/100/500/1,000). The post states neither number.
  • apps/site/src/components/sections/compare-links-data.ts:35 and the <title> in the post's hero.svg still carry the old post title.
  • apps/blog/src/app/sitemap.ts:37-41 uses git lastModified ?? date for lastmod, while the visible "Updated" line and BlogPosting dateModified use updatedAt ([slug]/page.tsx:122-124,239). They will agree to within the merge date; wiring the sitemap to updatedAt is a code change for the plumbing PR.

Facts checked

Prisma line references were taken on 2026-09-30; the figures the post rests on were rechecked on origin/main (cdfd26f) on 2026-10-05.

  1. Starter $10 base: 1M operations then $8/M, 10 GB, 7-day daily backups, spend limit; Compute 5M requests then $1/M, memory $0.006/GB-hour, vCPU $0.064/hour, bandwidth $0.025/GB metered from the first unit; spend limits on every paid tier, on by default: apps/site/src/components/sections/pricing-plans.tsx:48-63, pricing-spec-table.tsx:98, pricing-scale.tsx:33,90, apps/docs/content/docs/compute/pricing.mdx:15-31.
  2. Free plan: $0, no credit card, 1M requests, 360 GB-hours, 4 vCPU-hours, 10 GB, 200k operations, 500 MB, 50 databases, no usage billing, no backups, no spend limit, evaluation only: pricing-plans.tsx:30-45, compute/pricing.mdx:24,28, pricing-spec-table.tsx:98, postgres/faq.mdx:195.
  3. Pro $49 (10M operations then $2/M, 20M requests) and Business $129 (50M operations, 100 GB, 30-day backups): pricing-plans.tsx:71-108, postgres/faq.mdx:182-193. Pro's connection limits are five times Starter's, pooled and direct: postgres/database/connection-pooling.mdx:15-16, pricing-spec-table.tsx:157-160.
  4. Database-line arithmetic (one operation per query; MAUs x actions/day x 30; 1M/600 ≈ 1,700 users; $26 at 3M; Starter meets Pro's $49 at 5.875M ≈ 9,800 users): postgres/faq.mdx:67-71,160-168,182-189.
  5. Backups: daily snapshot on active days, 7 days Starter/Pro, 30 Business, restore in Console, post-snapshot changes may be lost, PITR not yet; pg_dump over the direct connection; PostgreSQL 17: postgres/database/backups.mdx:11-31,38.
  6. Pooling: PgBouncer included, pooled.db.prisma.io for app traffic, db.prisma.io for migrations and admin tools, direct app traffic exhausts connections, one client per process, any Postgres client: connection-pooling.mdx:9,28,37-49,57, postgres/faq.mdx:15.
  7. Compute: one region per service from six (table rows and the stack-pair section), no WebSocket servers (table row), runs on Bun (table row, entry 1), scaled-to-zero apps not billed; an idle instance sleeps unless waitUntil or KeepAwakeGuard holds it awake, and memory is metered while the app is running or kept awake; the Compute FAQ's "Where it has trade-offs" section is the full list: compute/limitations.mdx:58-61, postgres/faq.mdx:54-61, compute/object-storage.mdx:13, compute/pricing.mdx:9,18, compute/keeping-instances-awake.mdx:9-14, compute/request-timeout.mdx:38, compute/faq.mdx:31-33.
  8. Existing repo: Composer declaration (service.ts + module.ts) from the porting prompt, npx prisma deploy module.ts; deploy on push = connection plus prisma/cloud-deploy-action, connecting deploys nothing, previews have their own services and databases and are not copied from production; postgres() applies migrations/ on deploy, rawPostgres() gives { url }; --stage staging: composer/porting-an-app.mdx:13-32, compute/deploy-on-push.mdx:9,13-18,120, compute/limitations.mdx:66, composer/databases.mdx:19,56, composer/deploying.mdx:47-52.
  9. No query cache; on ORM 7 cacheStrategy exists only through a hosted Accelerate connection, retired 2026-12-01; ORM 8 cache middleware is in-process with a TTL; Query Insights included at no extra cost; no read replicas listed: postgres/faq.mdx:250-252, accelerate/index.mdx:11, orm/v7/prisma-client/client-extensions/type-utilities.mdx:88, orm/middleware/built-in-cache.mdx:9,42,171, query-insights/index.mdx:12.
  10. Competitor figures refetched on 2026-10-05 from railway.com/pricing, docs.railway.com/deployments/serverless, neon.com/pricing, render.com/pricing, render.com/docs/free, render.com/docs/postgresql-connection-pooling, supabase.com/pricing and supabase.com/docs/guides/database/connecting-to-postgres; each figure in the post matches the page it links. Capability rows checked the same day against docs.railway.com/networking/public-networking/specs-and-limits, docs.railway.com/builds/railpack, render.com/docs/websocket, render.com/docs/native-runtimes, fly.io/javascript-journal/websockets-with-nextjs, docs.fly.io/languages-and-frameworks and docs.fly.io/reference/regions.

…ged comparison

- Link the seven-platform comparison (/app-hosting-platforms-with-managed-postgres-2026),
merged in #8363, from the first prose section.
- Point the limits sentence at the Compute FAQ's "Where it has trade-offs" list (#8364).
- Neon's Free plan is 1 GB of storage per project on neon.com/pricing today, not 0.5 GB.
- Say that Supabase's point-in-time recovery is a paid add-on, as supabase.com/pricing lists it.
- Railway's Serverless page moved to docs.railway.com/deployments/serverless.
- Every vendor figure was fetched again from its own page, so the check dates and
updatedAt read 2026-10-05, with an Update history entry.

…irst-100-users post

- Disclosure: list what the runners-up do that we do not (WebSocket servers,
Python or Go APIs, auth and realtime, restore to a moment), not PITR alone.
- Drop the per-plan query timeout and response size figures; the pricing
table lists both as unlimited on every plan. Keep the connection limits
(Pro allows five times Starter's pooled and direct connections).
- A polling loop does not keep a Compute instance awake by itself; say that
it runs only while the instance is awake and memory is metered for that time.
- Name Supabase's PITR add-on wherever the post points to Supabase for PITR.
- Sources: add the Railway, Render and Fly.io pages behind the WebSocket,
language and region rows, checked 2026-10-05.
