A command-line utility for cleaning local trial-related data created by Navicat Premium 15, 16, and 17 on macOS. The script detects the installed version, closes Navicat when necessary, and removes the matching preference, application-support, and keychain entries.
Warning
This project is provided strictly for educational, research, and authorized testing purposes. Use it only on systems and software installations you own or are explicitly permitted to manage. To continue using Navicat after its evaluation period, purchase a valid license from the official Navicat store.
- Detects the installed Navicat Premium version automatically.
- Supports Navicat Premium major versions 15, 16, and 17.
- Closes a running Navicat instance safely before making changes.
- Removes matching trial data from macOS preferences and Application Support.
- Cleans relevant macOS Keychain entries for supported Navicat 17 releases.
- Displays clear progress, status messages, and a completion summary.
- macOS
- Navicat Premium installed in
/Applications/Navicat Premium.app - Bash and standard macOS command-line utilities
- Permission to modify files and keychain entries in your user account
The script may ask you to authorize access to your login keychain. Administrator privileges are not normally required because all modified data belongs to the current user.
Download or clone this repository, open Terminal in the project directory, and make the script executable:
chmod +x reset-trial.sh-
Save your work and close Navicat Premium.
-
Run the script from Terminal:
./reset-trial.sh
-
Review the prompt, then press Enter to continue.
-
Start Navicat Premium after the script reports successful completion.
Depending on the detected Navicat version, the script may modify or remove:
- The Navicat preference hash in
~/Library/Preferences/. - A matching hidden hash file in Navicat's Application Support directory.
- Matching generic-password entries in the user's login keychain.
Before running the script, consider backing up any important Navicat settings and connections. The software is provided as is, without warranty; you are responsible for reviewing the script and understanding its effects.
| Navicat Premium | Status | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 15.x | Supported | Uses the Navicat 15 preference service. |
| 16.x | Supported | Uses the current Navicat preference service. |
| 17.x | Supported | Includes keychain cleanup when required. |
| Other versions | Not supported | The script exits without making version-specific changes. |
Compatibility may change when Navicat updates its storage format or macOS security behavior.
Confirm that the application is installed at:
/Applications/Navicat Premium.app
Allow the requested Keychain Access prompt and rerun the script. If the problem continues, verify that your terminal application has the required macOS privacy permissions.
Only major versions 15, 16, and 17 are currently handled. Do not modify version checks unless you have verified the relevant preference and keychain formats.
Contributions that improve compatibility, reliability, documentation, or error handling are welcome. Before submitting a change:
- Keep the implementation compatible with the Bash version included with macOS.
- Avoid destructive operations outside the documented Navicat paths.
- Test changes on a disposable user profile or a properly backed-up environment.
- Clearly document the Navicat and macOS versions used for testing.
