Installation & Setup

Getting AI Code Task up and running involves two main steps: installing the custom component and adding the card to your dashboard.

πŸ“₯ Step 1: Installation

Option A: Via HACS (Highly Recommended)

  1. Open HACS in your Home Assistant instance.
  2. Go to Integrations.
  3. Click the three dots in the top right corner and select Custom repositories.
  4. Paste the URL: https://github.com/pajeronda/ai_code_task
  5. Select Integration as the category and click Add.
  6. Search for "AI Code Task" and click Download.
  7. Restart Home Assistant.

Option B: Manual Installation

  1. Download the latest release.
  2. Extract the ai_code_task folder from the custom_components directory in the zip file.
  3. Copy this folder into your Home Assistant's config/custom_components/ directory.
  4. Restart Home Assistant.

βš™οΈ Step 2: Configuration

Integration Setup

  1. Go to Settings > Devices & Services.
  2. Click Add Integration.
  3. Search for AI Code Task and follow the on-screen instructions.
  4. Configuration Options:
    • Default Provider: Select the ai_task entity you want to use (e.g., xAI Conversation).
    • Assistant Name: (Optional) Give your assistant a custom name.
    • Advanced Mode: Enable this to configure the System Prompt and Context Limits.

Adding the Lovelace Card

  1. Open your dashboard and enter Edit Mode.
  2. Click Add Card.
  3. Search for AI Code Task.
  4. Save the card.

Tip

This card works best in Panel Mode (single card view). This gives you the full width for the dual-pane layout, making it much easier to edit code and chat simultaneously.

πŸ”‘ AI Provider Setup

AI Code Task uses Home Assistant's AI Task platform. To use a specific model, you must have an integration that provides an ai_task entity.

  • xAI Conversation (Recommended): Requires the xAI Conversation integration, which exposes robust coding capabilities.
  • Other Providers: Any integration that acts as an ai_task provider can be used. (Note: Standard "Conversation" agents like OpenAI must be wrapped or supported by an adapter to appear here).
