Summary

Downgrade Java version for Oracle Spring Boot Starters from v. 21 to v. 17

Motivation

As per documentation, Spring Cloud Oracle 2.x release line should tracks Spring Boot 4.x and Spring Framework 7.x. As both Spring Framework and Spring Boot system requirements demand Java 17, so should Oracle Spring Boot Starters, while up to version 26.3.0 it requires Java 21 effectively preventing its adoption in the (still many) Spring Boot 4.x applications that run on Java 17.

Proposed Solution

In parent pom.xml replace:

    <java.version>21</java.version>
    <maven.compiler.target>${java.version}</maven.compiler.target>
    <maven.compiler.source>${java.version}</maven.compiler.source>

with:

    <java.version>21</java.version>
    <maven.compiler.release>${java.version}</maven.compiler.release>
