feat(run-spaceapp): add Podman container engine support - #309
Adds first-class Podman (rootless and rootful) container engine support to run-spaceapp alongside Docker:
Added --engine <auto|docker|podman> CLI flag, SPACEAPP_CONTAINER_ENGINE environment variable support, and containerEngine persistence in config.json.
Auto-detects Docker first when healthy, falling back to Podman when Docker is unavailable or not running.
Uses host.containers.internal:host-gateway on Podman, appends :Z SELinux relabel suffix on Linux Podman bind mounts, and updates engine-specific diagnostics.
Testing
Added unit test suite in packages/run-spaceapp/tests/podman.test.mjs.
Install and run the app with Podman as an alternative to Docker. Docker remains the default unless Podman is selected or automatically detected when Docker is unavailable.
Status checks and storage information now use the container engine configured for the installation.
Podman installations support engine-specific volume mounts, including SELinux-compatible options.
Limitations
Existing installations cannot switch container engines in place. Back up, uninstall, and restore to migrate.
Podman requires a supported setup and cannot be used with host-root access.

Walkthrough
The launcher supports Docker and Podman selection during installation. It persists the selected engine and uses it for prerequisites, Compose operations, diagnostics, and storage inspection. Podman-specific configuration validation and workspace mounts are included, with tests for engine selection, readiness, installation, and status.
Changes: Podman engine support

Summary
Engine selection and prerequisite checks packages/run-spaceapp/src/index.mjs, packages/run-spaceapp/src/prerequisites.mjs, packages/run-spaceapp/src/cli.mjs, packages/run-spaceapp/tests/podman.test.mjs
Installation accepts --engine auto, --engine docker, and --engine podman. Configuration persists the engine and rejects unsupported values, engine changes on existing installations, and Podman with host-root access. Detection and prerequisite checks apply engine-specific rules.
Compose generation and runtime routing packages/run-spaceapp/src/index.mjs, packages/run-spaceapp/src/cli.mjs, packages/run-spaceapp/tests/podman.test.mjs
Compose generation and launcher commands use the configured engine. Podman workspace mounts add SELinux options, and Podman commands are included in trusted command execution.
Diagnostics and storage inspection packages/run-spaceapp/src/cli.mjs, packages/run-spaceapp/src/storage.mjs, packages/run-spaceapp/tests/podman.test.mjs
Doctor probes and storage commands use the selected engine. Storage inspection handles Podman storage paths and host resource fields, and accepts prefixed or unprefixed SHA-256 image IDs.

Podman support mostly works, but factory reset on a Podman installation drops the engine selection, and automatic engine detection can pick a stopped Docker over a working Podman. Fix these before merging; the remaining items are low-impact diagnostics and edge-case gaps.

Explanation
The changed source and tests support issue #63. They add Podman detection, configuration, command dispatch, storage probes, diagnostics integration, SELinux mount handling, and engine-specific tests. The changes do not demonstrate support for Windows, Kubernetes, Quadlet/systemd, Podman-specific images, or another container engine.

Explanation
Issue #63 is open and directly linked. The PR implements engine selection and persistence, engine-specific command dispatch, Docker preference, Podman prerequisite checks, SELinux mount labeling, engine-switch refusal, Podman host-root refusal, and mocked unit coverage. The PR does not add the required macOS Podman-machine CPU, memory, and disk checks with resize guidance. The reported changes do not establish support for all required Compose features or lifecycle, workspace ownership, and /readyz behavior across the small, medium, and large profiles. The reported diagnostics changes do not establish all required engine, version, rootless/rootful, cgroup, and delegated-limit facts in doctor and support-bundle. The whole-PR summary lists no required Ubuntu Podman install/backup/purge CI job and no updates to the launcher README, main README prerequisites, or docs/getting-started.md.
Resolution
Implement the remaining [#63] coding requirements. Add macOS Podman-machine resource checks and resize guidance. Validate or test the required Compose provider and template features. Add lifecycle, SELinux ownership, diagnostics, support-bundle, and profile coverage for Podman. Add the required Ubuntu CI scenario. Update the three requested documentation files.

Pass engine to ensureDocker in updateCommand. A Podman installation fails here, or triggers a Docker install.
The installArgs object has no engine field. ensureDockerAvailable routes to Podman only when installArgs?.engine === "podman". For a Podman installation, spaceapp update therefore runs dockerIsReady, which probes docker.
On a Podman-only Linux host, this fails. The flow then reaches ensureLinuxDocker, which tries to install Docker Engine with sudo. The update then runs performUpdate with Podman. The result is an unwanted Docker install or a false prerequisite failure.
Every other changed call site (installCommand, repairRuntime) passes the engine. This one was missed. The new Podman tests do not cover update.

Pass engine in the install failure and recovery paths. They run docker compose on Podman installations.
These composeCommand calls are outside the changed lines but are now wrong. composeCommand falls back to docker when options.engine is missing. The affected helpers are:
reportInstallDiagnostics (status and logs).
restoreRuntimeAfterFailedInstall (up and down).
Both are reached from failAfterRuntimeMutation after stagedComposeCommand("up") has started the stack with Podman.
When a Podman install or upgrade fails after the runtime starts:
Diagnostics collection invokes docker.
The "restore previous runtime" up and the "stop partial runtime" down run against Docker, or return 127 on a Podman-only host.
The partially started Podman stack stays running. The error message says to rerun install.
Neither helper receives the engine today. Add an engine parameter to both. Pass result.config.engine from failAfterRuntimeMutation. Use existingConfig?.engine ?? engine in the up and down calls.
// reportInstallDiagnostics: add `engine` to the destructured params, then:composeCommand(action,root,{ profile, stateRoot, engine,lines: 200})// restoreRuntimeAfterFailedInstall: add `engine` to the destructured params, then:composeCommand("up",root,{profile: existingConfig.profile,companionsEnabled: existingConfig.companionsEnabled,engine: existingConfig.engine})composeCommand("down",root,{profile: existingConfig?.profile??attemptedProfile,stateRoot: existingConfig ? root : stagedStateRoot,companionsEnabled: existingConfig?.companionsEnabled??companionsEnabled,engine: existingConfig?.engine??engine})

For a Podman installation, Line 2324 purges through Podman. This call then creates a configuration without an engine, which defaults later commands to Docker. On a Podman-only host, the reset reports success but the new installation cannot be started through the selected engine. Pass config.engine into initializeInstallation.

The installation record includes the profile but omits config.engine. A support bundle from a Podman installation therefore does not identify which container engine its diagnostics concern. Add the engine to this record. The linked acceptance criteria also request resource-limit reporting.

Give Podman-specific help when a Podman probe fails.
When doctorEngine is podman, these branches still print instructions to install or start Docker. A Podman user with a missing CLI, Compose provider, or stopped machine receives the wrong recovery action. Select help from doctorEngine as well as platform.

Minor · Apply the engine-switch check before the same-version repair branch. · cli.mjs:1214
Apply the engine-switch check before the same-version repair branch.
In planInteractiveSetup, the same-version branch runs before any engine comparison. hasRequestedConfigChange reads only access mode, companions, and profile. For an existing Docker install with the same version, install --engine podman (or SPACEAPP_CONTAINER_ENGINE=podman) therefore reaches the repair prompt. The repair runs against the stored Docker configuration. The requested Podman switch is not rejected, and no message reports that it was ignored. The rejection at installCommand lines 692-704 is never reached, because installCommand returns as soon as planInteractiveSetup returns { exit }.
This path applies only when the run is interactive, resumes a continuation, or uses approved automation. A non-interactive run without approval exits earlier with an error.
The guard below rejects the mismatch with the same message used at lines 700-704, before the branch can repair the Docker runtime. The requested engine comes from --engine, falling back to SPACEAPP_CONTAINER_ENGINE. auto is ignored.
