The screenshots Play requires before the app can be listed on Android Automotive OS.

Play's requirement

For a point of interest app, Android Automotive OS screenshots are required:

  • at least 2 portrait at 800 × 1280 and 2 landscape at 1024 × 768;
  • the generic system UI, taken on the Android Automotive OS emulator;
  • no frames, and nothing specific to one car maker.

Screenshots, in android/play/screenshots/car/

Four of each orientation, in landscape/ and portrait/:

  1. where the car is, as a code;
  2. how to say it ("Golf, three, Romeo, Juliett, Mike; …; check four"), with its accuracy and Read aloud;
  3. going to a code typed with the car's keyboard while parked;
  4. that place, 824 m north-east of the car, with Navigate and Read aloud.

How they were taken

  • The generic android-automotive system image, API 35. It was already installed, so nothing was downloaded.
  • Landscape uses the SDK's 1024 × 768 car profile. Portrait uses the same image with an 800 × 1280 screen, so the car's own system UI lays itself out for portrait.
  • On that image the driver is user 10, and location starts switched off for them. It was switched on for that user, as a driver would in the car's settings.

PLAY.md lists the set and records these steps.

Verified

  • The eight images read back at their required sizes, RGB with no alpha.
  • audit/markdown.py passes.

Play requires screenshots for a point of interest app on Android Automotive
OS: at least two portrait at 800 by 1280 and two landscape at 1024 by 768,
of the generic system UI from the emulator. These are four of each, in
play/screenshots/car: where the car is, how to say its code, going to a
code typed while parked, and that place with Navigate and Read aloud.

Landscape is the SDK's car profile; portrait is the same system image with
an 800 by 1280 screen, so the car's own system UI lays itself out for it.
PLAY.md lists them and says how they were taken.
