Proxy of sleepypod#866 for CodeRabbit review.

The training command stores candidates with POST /sleep-stages/models and prints an inline-model preview. It selects only with --select (inactive) or --activate (active), after a successful preview. The README now describes the singular PUT accurately: it replaces the selection, preserves activation, and archives both models.

Explicit unlabeled rows now break Watch label segments even when the next labeled row has the same stage.

Validation: 9 synthetic tests (plus 3 parameterized subtests) passed. train-personal-models.py line coverage 98.8%; the changed label function is fully covered (the standalone research helper overall is 19.1% in this focused suite). Tests cover request methods/bodies, default command behavior, selection flags, failed preview, HTTP errors, contradictory flags, snapshot cleanup, and label gaps. No model was sent to or activated on a pod. Training's vendored helper will be copied from this reviewed revision and parity checked.

Pick the snippet that matches your pod. Already-installed pods can't use the curl bootstraps below — sleepypod's egress firewall DROPs github.com, and the script that knows how to unblock WAN is the very file curl is trying to fetch. Use sp-update instead; it's on disk and opens WAN as its first step.

🔄 Already on a sleepypod (most common — review a PR on a running pod):

sudo sp-update fix/personal-model-safety-1022

🚀 Fresh pod / first install — bootstraps from GitHub, rebuilds every push:

🎯 Pin to this exact build (run 39905151540 · a6eb5c4) — fresh-pod path, locked to one CI artifact for reproducible review:

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Trained models can be uploaded as candidates and previewed across 14 nights without changing the currently selected or active model. Training-night preview scores are in-sample.
    • After a successful preview, you can select a candidate as inactive or select and activate it. These options are mutually exclusive and cannot be combined with no-upload mode.
    • Uploading through the legacy workflow replaces the selected model in place, preserves its active state, and archives both the previous and uploaded models.
  • Bug Fixes
    • An explicit unlabeled row now starts a new stage segment, even when the next labeled stage matches the previous one. Missing samples continue to allow existing gap-bridging behavior.

Walkthrough

The training script now stores and previews model candidates, with optional selection or activation after preview. The labeling helper starts a new segment after an explicit unlabeled row. The scripts test job syncs the locked numerical environment.

Changes: Personal Model Candidate Upload

Layer / File(s) Summary
Store and preview candidates
scripts/train-personal-models.py, docs/research/sleep-stage-calibration/README.md, scripts/tests/test_personal_models.py
The script stores a candidate and previews it over 14 nights. Documentation and tests describe candidate storage, preview behavior, and the related API routes.
Expose candidate selection options
scripts/train-personal-models.py, docs/research/sleep-stage-calibration/README.md, scripts/tests/test_personal_models.py
The --select and --activate options control selection behavior and cannot be combined with each other or with --no-upload. Tests cover option propagation and command behavior.

Watch-Stage Segment Labeling

Layer / File(s) Summary
Handle explicit unlabeled rows
docs/research/sleep-stage-calibration/personal-models.py, scripts/tests/test_personal_models.py, .github/workflows/python-modules.yml
An explicit unlabeled row starts a new segment when labeling resumes, while missing samples can still be bridged. Tests cover these cases, and the scripts test job syncs the locked numerical environment.

Explanation

Docstring coverage is 18.75% which is insufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff. Analyzed 16 functions across 3 files. (2 skipped: 2 unsupported.)

Resolution

Write docstrings for the functions missing them to satisfy the coverage threshold.

Full details: Title check

Explanation

The title "CR: fix/personal-model-safety-1022" is a branch-style identifier with a generic "CR:" prefix and a ticket-like suffix. It does not name the main change. The changeset covers safe model upload and explicit selection/activation for the personal-model training command, documentation updates, and a fix so explicit unlabeled Watch rows break label segments. The title does not convey any of these changes, so it is vague and non-descriptive.

Resolution

Replace the title with a short descriptive sentence that names the primary change. For example: "Store personal sleep-stage candidates separately and select explicitly" or "Require explicit selection for personal model activation." Also cover the label-gap fix if it is a major part of the PR.

Verified and fixed the conflicting flag combination; --select and --activate now fail before any training or upload. All 66 script tests pass, including the added flag combination. @coderabbitai review

The training command stores candidates with POST /sleep-stages/models
and prints an inline-model preview. It selects only with --select
(inactive) or --activate (active), after a successful preview. The
README now describes the singular PUT accurately: it replaces the
selection, preserves activation, and archives both models.

Explicit unlabeled rows now break Watch label segments even when the
next labeled row has the same stage.

Validation: 9 synthetic tests (plus 3 parameterized subtests) passed.
train-personal-models.py line coverage 98.8%; the changed label function
is fully covered (the standalone research helper overall is 19.1% in
this focused suite). Tests cover request methods/bodies, default command
behavior, selection flags, failed preview, HTTP errors, contradictory
flags, snapshot cleanup, and label gaps. No model was sent to or
activated on a pod. Training PR #11 copies the helper from reviewed
revision `18da4f6313064113fc970a0ccec542ed7fa047a0`; both synthetic
parity pipelines pass.

All 66 repository-script tests pass (plus 3 parameterized subtests). The
scripts CI job now uses the locked piezo numerical dependencies because
the research helper imports NumPy. Full pre-push TypeScript, ESLint and
both Drizzle checks passed.

CodeRabbit mirror review: #34. Initial
actionable findings are addressed; follow-up review requested.
