We could add the newer pythons, or archive this repo. I don't know if anyone is using these images anymore. Focal (Ubuntu 20.04) standard support has ended, and I don't think it is worth updating this repo to 24.04 now that cibuildwheel is much more popular than multibuild.
The new images are available on https://hub.docker.com/u/multibuild. They have the noble name, so DOCKER_TEST_IMAGE=multibuild/noble_$PLAT should now work.

https://hub.docker.com/_/ubuntu has dropped focal, so I don't think the Docker images can continue building as they are.

I guess we could start a new branch with noble (24.04)

But it is so easy to simply run ubuntu-latest in github CI, perhaps no-one should be using this anymore.

I've created #54 if you are interested in Ubuntu 24.04.

If anyone is running into this, please comment here so we will know we still need to support these images moving forward.

I'm running into this trying to build 3.14 wheels for pygrib, a failed run can be seen at https://github.com/jswhit/pygrib-wheels/actions/runs/18729876372

I think we should change the multibuild defaults to
alpine_3.22andnoble.mattip commentedon Oct 24, 2025
see multi-build/multibuild#552. Closing.
