DarkSword is a Windows app for working with exploit chain dumps in a simple way. It helps you open, inspect, and review dump files without needing to use command-line tools.
Use it if you want a local tool to look through chain data on your PC. It runs on Windows and keeps the setup process simple.
- Open the DarkSword Releases page
- Find the latest release at the top
- Download the Windows file from the release assets
- Save the file to a folder you can find again, like Downloads or Desktop
If the release includes a ZIP file, extract it first. If it includes an EXE file, you can run it after the download finishes.
DarkSword works best on a modern Windows PC.
- Windows 10 or Windows 11
- 2 GB of free memory or more
- 200 MB of free disk space
- A screen with at least 1280 × 720 resolution
- Internet access for the first download
For large dump files, more memory helps keep the app responsive.
- Download the latest release from the link above
- If the file is zipped, right-click it and choose Extract All
- Open the extracted folder
- Double-click the DarkSword application file
- If Windows asks for permission, choose Yes
- Wait for the app window to open
If Windows shows a SmartScreen prompt, choose the option that lets you keep going if you trust the file from the release page.
After DarkSword opens, use it to work with your dump files.
- Start the app
- Click Open File or use the File menu
- Select your exploit chain dump
- Wait while DarkSword loads the data
- Browse the chain entries, details, and related values
- Copy what you need for your own review
The app is built for local inspection, so you can move through the data at your own pace.
DarkSword gives you a simple way to handle dump content on Windows.
- Open dump files for review
- View chain data in a clear layout
- Inspect entries one by one
- Copy text for notes or reports
- Search through loaded data
- Reopen recent files for faster access
If you work with the same files often, this keeps the process easy.
For the smoothest use, follow this order:
- Download the latest release
- Keep the app in one folder
- Put your dump files in a separate folder
- Open DarkSword first
- Load one file at a time
- Save your notes in a text file near the source data
This makes it easier to find your work later.
DarkSword is meant to work with dump-style files and chain data exports.
Common file types may include:
- Plain text dumps
- Log files
- JSON exports
- Archive files with chain data
- Custom data files from related tools
If you are not sure which file to open, start with the newest dump file from your export folder.
- Check that the download finished
- Make sure you extracted the ZIP file first
- Try running the app from the extracted folder
- Right-click the file and choose Run as administrator
- Open the release page again
- Download the file from the latest release
- Confirm that you picked the Windows asset
- Try the file again after extraction
- Check that the file is a supported dump file
- Try another export from the same source
- Make sure the file is not empty
- Move the file to a local folder on your PC
- Close other apps that use a lot of memory
- Use smaller files first
- Avoid opening several large dumps at the same time
- Restart DarkSword and try again
- Keep the release file and your dump files in separate folders
- Use a short folder path like
C:\DarkSword\ - Open one file, review it, then close it before loading the next
- Save notes with the same file name as the dump
- Update to the newest release when a new version is posted
DarkSword is meant for Windows desktop use.
- Use a normal user account if possible
- Store the app in a folder you control
- Do not run it from inside the ZIP file
- If you move the app later, move the whole folder
This helps avoid broken paths and missing files.
When a new version appears on the releases page, repeat the download process:
- Visit the DarkSword Releases page
- Download the latest Windows asset
- Replace the old files if needed
- Open the new version from its folder
Keep your old folder until you confirm the new one works
- Go to the DarkSword Releases page
- Download the latest Windows file
- Extract it if needed
- Open the app
- Load your dump file
- Review the chain data
